Gotta wonder what took Ubi so long to release their MJ game in Japan... It's not like there was a lot to translate and they're not adding new songs like they did for Just Dance...

Is it? I'm under the impression that it's just an HD port, with the prerendered backgrounds presumably redone in realtime and possibly some additional content. If it actually turns out to be a proper remake, its importance is still diluted by it not being Vita-exclusive. (That would also mean that SE has very questionable business sense, since a proper FFVII remake would cost just as much to develop but would almost certainly sell better.)

Yes, I'm expecting big numbers for FFX even if it isn't a complete remake because it will the first 3D FF to be re-released and the original game was well received. But it's also true that I was expecting more from the MGS HD releases.

I don't claim to be right though and I can easily be wrong about this.

EDIT

And to put things on perspective, no psp game debuted at >100k in the first week in 2005 and only Tales of the World, Portable Ops and SD Gundam did it in 2006.
I think Vita has a fair chance of surpasing that.

I'd assume that obviously it wasn't localised in time for the holidays last year and they thought it would benefit from still being a holiday release

I expect big numbers too, but it will be mostly for the PS3 version.

Level-5 just can't catch a break these days. Sigh. It's been a good run Hino, but maybe it's TIME TO RETIRE! ROFL!

It's not that Level-5 can't catch a break. It's just that they don't make good games. I've always laughed when people said that Level-5 would be the next Squaresoft. Not. Even. Close.

I've bought into almost all of their RPGs by the way. Each time I've been disappointed. I probably will do that again when Ni No Kuni arrives in the west, but that's only because of the Ghibli link.

YES!!! Saint Seiya in third spot! I will have to import it sometime in the next few weeks!

Not worth it IMO. I'm not a big SS fan, but I like the series a lot (especially the Lost Canvas series). I played the game last month and it was terrible. Awful graphics, boring gameplay and terrible camera.

So the 3ds is rising again and Mario held really strong. I suppose this means holiday spending has begun. The next few weeks will be interesting.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
I wonder why Batman games do so poorly over there. I thought the Batman movies do well there.

I'd guess because playing a super hero they don't have much connection to isn't as fun for them. It's like asking why the West wouldn't get behind a Doraemon game even though anime does well over there.

Goal in Japan was 1M (500k DS/500k 3DS) and if it the game was successful they wanted to bring it overseas.

http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/419/419942/index-2.html

Realistically I don't think they were expecting those numbers (500k each). But Koei loves setting insanely high sales targets.

I think that Zelda is going to hold well next week and have good legs to make up for the opening.

I know that I mentioned this before, but why on Earth didn't Nintendo cut Wii's price for the holiday? So stupid...

In the case of Zelda, well.. like most Nintendo titles it's hard to say one way or the other. In the Media-Create Charts:
-Phantom Hourglass debuted with 302k and did around 900k.
-Spirit Tracks debuted with around 291k and did around 620k.

Or how Super Mario Galaxy debuted with around 250k and ended with 1 million. Twilight Princess did around 600k in the long run and it debuted with less than Skyward (then again it was a launch title). So, guess we'll see. If anything, 500k in the long run for Skyward Sword is not that crazy.

This game got to that total after extreme bomba bin pricing.

Thanks for the source!

Now I'm curious about the shipment number... because Fabstyle may dethrone Ni No Kuni as Japan Bomba 2011 only one week after!

Mario 3D Land seems to be stabilising. Maybe it really will have some good legs! (no doubt that SM3DL is primarily being bought by new hardware buyers and of course, 3DS hardware is a monster!)

Zelda's opening is somewhat disappointing, but not too bad. It'll drop like a rock I'm sure though.

Holy fuck. Shit. Scamco wins again with ingenious new methods of selling anime. I'm really impressed.

3DS future was looking pretty grim in the early summer and look how things are now.

By that time, we should see the releases or know the release dates for DQ Monsters, Luigi's Mansion, Time Travellers, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Friend Collection, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Bravery Default, and Mario Tennis. That's not counting what will be announced in E3. I really think 3DS will have enough games for 2 decent sized release each month in Japan for 2012. If there is any period where there is a gap of releases, it will only because Nintendo chooses to pull back on releasing the games for some reason. It won't be because there are no games planned.

Would be shocked if Zelda SS doesn't sell 500K in Japan. Should beat Twilight Princess in the long run.

FFX even though is shared with PS3 is at the very least on par with the "Action RPG based on the FFVII universe" which is everything we knew by December '04. And the game should be released earlier than the 2 years and 9 months that it took for CC to come out for psp.
The launch window lineup is more than fine.

The big question mark is the support outside of the launch window and that's why I'm not planning to buy a Vita at launch or probably in the first year. But Vita hasn't launched yet so it's too early to call anything.

Are you honestly trying to downplay Crisis Core in favor of a multiplatform port? I really don´t see the same kind of hype or coverage. There is some interest in FFX but no where near Crisis Core. Right now it´s with no doubt the Vita game with most potential saleswise and it could surprise some of us but at the moment it´s more likely that it will do good numbers for what it is but sell worse than Crisis Core.

3DS future was looking pretty grim in the early summer and look how things are now.

3DS had a mediocre summer but at the same time it had already some million-sellers announced pre-launch among new games in the Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil series, the biggest problem was there were no release dates that lead to some hesitation especially with its pricetag back then, so it was just a matter of time before sales would pick up.

Vita on the other hand doesn´t have that kind of lineup announced yet. In fact most known games (ports, remakes mostly of mid-tier selling serieses) are set for a early 2012 release and Vita lacks in announcements of new and really popular franchises after that launch period right now.

Another problem it faces is that 3DS right now is clearly dominating the Japanese market even before Vita is on the market and this most likely affects how publishers plan to distribute their limited resources.

The sell-through rate for 7th Dragon 2020 was 91.63%. That means the shipment was less than 135k. Demand is pretty damn high. Miku really does wonders. If they restock fast, this might be Image Epoch's first >200k title.

Crap, that's awesome.

And even scary. Too much power in the hands of an idol...that doesn't even exist in the reality!!!
