Strange that Nintendo have been quiet on Pokémon ORAS sales since eShop only sales (as in not download cards) are not counted in the weekly Famitsu charts thus the totals should stand at considerably higher than 1.534,593 (both versions raced to the top of the eShop charts in Animal Crossing time).

Maybe they simply can't count that high!

It's shocking how the leader of the market despite a double shocking new revision is selling (shockingly) poor.
Shocking that even if two of the top seller games in Japan has been released this year, the shocking Pokemon and MH, sales are almost the half of the previous shocking year.

That's definitively shocking...
I see that dropping even further next year. IMO, Nintendo should've released N3DS much sooner, perhaps towards the end of last year and then see out this year with it before their next venture in 2015. It's probably going to drop even further next year.

Kirby still slaying :)

I would have bought if there was 20 fighters besides 10.

This top demonstrates that all the games which are in the top 20 of 3ds eshop have been bought at least 100.000 times only in Japan.

Sad that the price of Hero bank 2 in the eshop is way more expensive than 4610 yens

About that Sony livestream: looks like Level-5 will reveal their PS4 game at E3 2015. Hino wants to make something even more epic than WNC.

That only means one thing.

I'm honestly surprised the stand is that big... then again, it's probably just for this week-end and it'll be gone by Monday or something. After, EO is a series that gets most of its sales during the first week.

2. [3DS] Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold - the fanbase is always here

You'll have to admit, Atlus really knows how to take care of its fanbase.

Can somebody please explain this imagery to me? How many persons are there and who does the vertical cleavage belong to?

It's not cleavage... it's her shoulder partly hidden behind her hair.

around 50% more but I already can hear the "Nova bomba" approaching....

The retail release of the free downloadable PSO2 isn´t exactly a significant comparison. Despite the far bigger discrepancy in sales that´s like basing your sales expectations for a MH title on Monster Hunter Frontier.

If you actually want a less sugar-coated but more realistic comparison for potential sales expectations, Phantasy Star portable 1 and 2 would be far more informative.

Considering that the performance (and genre) of these titles were pretty similar to the God Eater games, comparisons with this series makes sense as well. With GE2 we even have PSP+PSV numbers. When it comes to a comparison with the PSV version of GE2, Phantasy Star Nova has even the advantage of beeing exclusive and the launch quite close to the holiday season.

Dengeki Sales: Week 47, 2014 (Nov 17 - Nov 23)

01./00. [3DS] Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (Pokemon) {2014.11.21} - 801.829 / NEW <80%>
02./00. [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby (Pokemon) {2014.11.21} - 700.494 / NEW <80%>

I approve of this
is it just me or has the sales difference between versions gotten bigger lately

I think the question is rather if this will save Vita from its diminishing sales lead over last year
Don't know if it'll save Vita or not but there are 2 new Value Packs released this week as well so we should see a decent bump at least...

Pokemon sales are great for a remake but considering the games have been more and more frontloaded with each recent iteration, I wonder if it's going to sell as much as HG/SS in the end.

this means 2.5 alone might have a better opening week than 2 titles combined?

and considering that this week preorders might pass ORAS ones (1553pt), could it have a 1,5mln opening?

That's not how pre-orders work. I know the franchises are similar but different franchises usually have different pre-orders patterns so at best what that tells you is that YW 2.5 is going to sell very well.

Woah doing 50% more in pre-order than a packaged F2P game, what a great perfomance... Game should be compared to the Portable games, not PSO2 anyway.

Outside of 2i, I don't think Nova has a chance at reaching the numbers the Phantasy Star Portable games put up. Vita isn't PSP and Nova is competing as much with PSO2 as it is with games from other publishers.

God Eater 2 performed quite fine on the Vita though. And I don't really see what games are competing with Nova on the Vita right now, it's not like it's got a lot of strong seller at the moment.

Any convincing reason why Phantasy Star Nova should perform worse (or way worse) than God Eater 2? I'm noticing some damage control regarding this title.

It is the biggest exclusive game that PlayStation Vita will probably get during its entire lifespan, it belongs to a genre that has found a great success on the platform and it is released near holiday season. Also, both Phantasy Star and God Eater franchises have similar sales on PlayStation Portable.

So much preemptive damage control for PSU.

Is lack of optimism damage control? I'm not really seeing it. Just people saying that it probably won't be a massive seller and a decline for the series.

I completely agree that it should be huge in theory. But for some reason, it doesn't seem like hype is really big. I don't know why that is either. Maybe it's just lack of coverage over here? Is it not different enough from PSO2 which has already been available for a long while? Or maybe the genre has really reached the point of oversaturation on Vita?

I'd be genuinely surprised if it does GE2 numbers, but from my perspective there's not much pointing towards that really. I'm expecting it to be more in line with Freedom Wars

Lack of preorder interest + Sega downgrading shipment expectations for PSV games this quarter in the financial report seem like good enough reasons.

It's not like anyone has to do damage control for Vita in terms of MH-styled games. Most of them have performed well, so if PSN doesn't sell that much it shouldn't be because of the platform.

When announced, I did expect Nova to be Vita's best selling game in Japan but that confidence has since faded. On paper it should be; it's an exclusive entry in a property that has done very well on handhelds in the past, but I don't know. I don't feel like Sega has done a great job positioning Nova. It's come across more as a PSO2 companion than a proper Phantasy Star Portable 3. It's not just a Sega advertising issue either as that mindset seems to stem into the game itself:

There was an interview with the producer/director/etc. some time ago in which he defended the lack of online multiplayer by saying that the gameplay was changed a bit from PSO2, since there's no lag in offline/adhoc mode. This allowed them to make encounters during which split second reactions will be crucial or something.

And then there's the 9 minute Nova trailer with literally "if you want to play online, play PSO2" in the end, so yeah, they're not tricking anyone.
The split second reaction talk is even more funny because there are some fps drops during boss fights, which is way worse than lag imo.

Still, I kind of can live with the lack of online mode, since PSO2 is out there. It also seems that the multiplayer in general is kind of a throwaway mode this time, as opposed to the Portable series. Are there even non-story multiplayer specific missions available?

Being a companion title doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it makes Nova kind of superfluous when the main game is free on the same platform and is constantly getting new content.

Don't get confused about my intentions: I want Nova to sell well but I get the suspicion that it won't be reaching PSP's heights.

Right, I think there's also some legitimate reevaluation for PSN. I'm speaking more to things like the "600k or bomb" false narrative or idea that 200k was Sega's target all along that I've seen some pushing. I'm also expecting around 300k total personally, Freedom Wars figures seem totally reasonable with the way things sit now. But with that should come the acknowledgement that it's still probably less than what everyone expected (Sega included) when the game was announced.

That Phantasy Star Nova is not going to reach (or even get close to) God Eater 2 Vita numbers seems a foregone conclusion. What I meant to say is that this game had everything to at least sell as well as the game mentioned before.

Yes, I think most of us were expecting that when it got announced last year.

If PSN tanks (relative to expectations) I feel it pretty much validates Sega's digital push in that they got PSO2 to the level where they can brag about it every quarter, and now they're showing there doesn't seem to be huge pent up demand for taking something like that offline.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't go on with the Phantasy Star physical games afterwards barring maybe an upgraded rerelease of PSN to recoup some more costs from a disappointing release.

They can just release PSO2 on whatever Nintendo releases next if they want to stay on living handhelds or eventually launch a PSO3.

To note, I'm referring to Phantasy Star specifically, not the genre as a whole.

Dengeki seems to have both Vita and Wii U quite a bit lower than the other two this week.

Well a few K, so not a lot in absolute terms.

I feel that numbers are so low these days that the differences we would see before have now just become much more significant percentage wise.

Like the pan industry collapse just brought this to light a lot more than comparing 42K to 43.5K.
