Media Create Sales: Week 48, 2014 (Nov 24 - Nov 30)

vinnygambini

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Hope Media Create or Famitsu provides sales data for amiibo.

We don't have an ounce of tangible data yet from either territories :(

That's a good lineup IMO, and more will be announced soon. Of course, whether or not they'll sell or boost PS4 numbers is an entirely different story.

good lineup doesn't mean it will dominate. It will do better for sure but it won't outsell 3DS and might not even VITA. And I'm not sure if it can be declared console returns to Japan if that's the case.

No sellthrough is shared for games released on Saturday.

Tonight GamesMaya will post her impressions. Monday Tsutaya's and Comg's ranking. And Tuesday Tsutaya's comment. The blog can give some hints on Tuesday too.

November Edition of my Leg-o-meter, yay~

Nothing special to note, other than Nintendo consoles holding the 13 first spot thanks to Smash 3DS which finally overcame GTA V. Oh, and Mario Kart 8 ending up as #3 for the overall year (no way it's not going to chart while being bundled now), that's some pretty impressive legs for a Wii U game. Then again, it's Mario Kart. That'd have been a true feat for Pikmin 3 to have had such legs.

Dat domination.

Bic Camera's price is without tax. It will be included when you pay.
I don't know if it's already included in Yodabashi's tags or not.

Anyway.
Bic Camera >>> Yodabashi

8)

even with tax Bic Camera is cheaper than Yodobashi, but Yodobashi gives you more discount on your point card

Western games and niche games

GamesMaya:

Today was a Festival with the release of Super Smash Bros for Wii U. No lines at 10:00 a.m. when the shop opened, but a lot of people came. (Old friends too).
Amiibos and other new items were available from today, and detailed explanation was needed.
Smash was popular between adults on its first day, and a lot of people purchased some accessories too (Amiibos, GC Controllers, Adapters...).

Hmm... doesn't surprise me.

Looks like most people buying amiibo are doing it it for collecting, rather than gameplay purposes.

Anyway, Smash launch seems quite positive, can't wait for concrete numbers.

Western games and niche games

Seriously now, that's all you see in that list? Western games and niche games are also a big part of PS4 list for 2015 that was posted.

But that wasn't the point. The point was most of them were and are PS3 multiplatform. Things didn't improve dramatically so far and that won't change with next year's releases.

I don't have problem with western game and niche game in Japan as long as we also have big Japanese IP
We will see i believe sale will improve next year even if majority of them are multiplatform.

Game was pretty buggy from what I heard a contact that went through the game three times

First week sales were horrible as well.

It normal to big western IP to outsold some niche Japanese games but they had had no chance against big Japanese IP

This is true in general, but you still have GTAV being the 7th best-selling PS3 game (outselling all Yakuza, Tales of and Gran Turismo games) and some Call of Duty outselling the best selling Gundam and Dynasty Warriors games. Trends suggest that PS4 is even more skewed towards Western games.

Yakuza, Tales of and Gran Turismo are not the biggest japan ip through big IP are Final fantasy,Kingdoms heart,Monster Hunter,Metal gear solid

Of course there are bigger Japanese IPs. I was just saying that Western games cannot be downgraded and put them along with niche games when on PS3 they were able to sell up to 800k units (GTAV) and overall many of them sold well.

In the list above there there no games near as popular as Gta

“After receiving so many requests from fans of the series, we have decided to bring Yakuza 5 to the US and Europe. This title was enjoyed by over one million gamers in Japan. I’m looking forward to seeing how Yakuza 5 will be received by the gamers in the U.S. and Europe. ”

Savior!

Does 3DS have any big games coming in Q1 besides Bravely Second? Can't believe we still don't have a release date for it.

Nothing especially big yet but it does already have some notable titles for Q1 (Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Devil Survivor 2BR, Kenka Bancho 6, Codename STEAM, Project Mirai Remix, The Legend of Legacy, Stella Glow, Lost Heroes 2) and some others that could still make it (Xenoblade 3D, Popolocrois Farm Story, Majora's Mask 3D, Rodea the Sky Soldier, Atelier Rorona 3D).

Sinobi also says that he has the feeling that Wii U hardware is not moving. Not reducing the price and Pokemon and Youkai launching in this dates could be the reason, he thinks.

----

It seems this year's Family Bundle is not working, and the price/content is the reason.

Welp

Guess they'll just look at softwares sales for now.

I'm nowhere close to Japan but I have the same impression. :p

Smash 3DS killed Smash Wii U.

Smash doesn't move WiiU hardware?
Nintendo better change their hardware design philosophy next time, cause it becomes more and more obvious that mass market has rejected it.

It seems that the ramping up of WiiU leading to christmas is less important than last year. The power of 3D world I guess.

Lots of people interested in Smash/Mario kart probably bought the system last year when those value bundles dropped. Could explain why hardware sales still down yoy despite software being much stronger this year.

Could be, but when Wii U price went from:

2012 - 30.000 yen (31.500 tax included)
2013 - 31.238 yen (32.800 tax included)
2014 - 32.800 yen (35.424 tax included)

You should realize that something is wrong. Nintendo seems it's not.
The price is increasing every year. Wii U is more expensive now than never.
You can say that now includes a game (Mario Kart 8), compared to 2012.
But if we compare with 2013 that included 2 games, and 30 days Karaoke for free, making you save 16.000 yen. This year's bundle is not attractive.

Completely agree that the WiiU badly need a pricecut in Japan, especially since it never got a single one.
Saying there's no interest in Smash U is a bit premature though. It's more complicated than that and you know it.

With Smash 3DS coming first, Smash Wii U had another reason to show decline besides being on Wii U. But of course there is interest, I wouldn't be surprised if the game comes close to million in the end after 3-4 years.

It's not like Smash has been some sort of question mark/surprise for the Wii U. It was announced alongside the unveiling more than 3 years ago. I mean one could have even assumed prior to the announcement of a Wii successor that the system would have Smash Bros game.

People who are interested in playing it have had ample time to get the system. And there have already been several big Nintendo tipping point titles to get those purchasers over the line as well.

For me is not if Smash can move or not systems. For me is can Christmas move systems?

Nintendo always has been strong in December. Even in 2011 the dead Wii (without any big release in December) had a great Christmas Season. Can't Wii U match that?

With the current offer seems impossible.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Could be, but when Wii U price went from:

2012 - 30.000 yen (31.500 tax included)
2013 - 31.238 yen (32.800 tax included)
2014 - 32.800 yen (35.424 tax included)

You should realize that something is wrong. Nintendo seems it's not.

Right. There are many reasons Wii U isn't going to approach GCN numbers- but probably at the top of the list is Nintendo's inability to lower the price after 2 years of failure in the market.

A price drop would definitely increase WiiU sales, but I wonder by how much. If there's a small short term boost before it falls back to the same baseline, they might actually make less money with a price drop in the long term. At this point I think it's clear that the WiiU is a niche product. It doesn't have the support or the buzz to turn things around. Nintendo is the only one publishing significant WiiU games, and they can't have a title out every month.

I don't think a price drop will boost sales much, it will probably give Wii U a 3x sales boost in the price drop week. After that it will go back down to the same hardware sales it has now. So I think Nintendo only cares about making money rather than loosing money
