Could be, but when Wii U price went from:

2012 - 30.000 yen (31.500 tax included)
2013 - 31.238 yen (32.800 tax included)
2014 - 32.800 yen (35.424 tax included)

You should realize that something is wrong. Nintendo seems it's not.
The price is increasing every year. Wii U is more expensive now than never.
You can say that now includes a game (Mario Kart 8), compared to 2012.
But if we compare with 2013 that included 2 games, and 30 days Karaoke for free, making you save 16.000 yen. This year's bundle is not attractive.

I think this shows that Nintendo's strategy has never been about "saving" the Wii U by doing whatever it takes to move more units.

They seem to be focusing instead on maximizing the amount of money they get from those consumers who are still interested in their products.

For me is not if Smash can move or not systems. For me is can Christmas move systems?

Nintendo always has been strong in December. Even in 2011 the dead Wii (without any big release in December) had a great Christmas Season. Can't Wii U match that?

With the current offer seems impossible.

there were Pokemon and Youkai Watch in 2011 ? no, there was MH3G, which is targeted to a different audience, and biggest Nintendo hits were MK7 and SML3D
but Wii had a lot of games for families, such as Just Dance, Wii Party, Go Vacation, Taiko, which helped sales

there was a decent variety of games, now we have just Smash and Taiko, it's normal that people is more attracted to two of the biggest seller we currently have

There is big range from YSO for Shinuchi. Some predictions top 2 million for first 2 days.

1. Yo-kai Watch 2: Shinuchi (wk1) > Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke (wk1)
2. Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire (wk4) > Pokemon X / Y (wk4)
3. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (wk2) < 1/3 * Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (wk2)

Rise, it's only the beginning!

Considering that these game had more review than recently released AoT on Eshop, i am kinda seeing this game is quite good for certain demographics.^_^

The recently released Attack on Titan game is an expansion that is available at a budget price for those who originally bought the game (300k people or so).

Sumikko Gurashi is a line of characters by San-X that developed into merchandising. They seem quite popular right now in Japan.

Out of curiosity , does anyone know how the previous Street fighters games sold in Japan ?
Kinda curious how the series evolved over there .

A price drop would definitely increase WiiU sales, but I wonder by how much. If there's a small short term boost before it falls back to the same baseline, they might actually make less money with a price drop in the long term. At this point I think it's clear that the WiiU is a niche product. It doesn't have the support or the buzz to turn things around. Nintendo is the only one publishing significant WiiU games, and they can't have a title out every month.

Old man Iwata probably sees this. Might as well accept it and just go with flow and drag it through another year or so.

MHP3rd opened with 2,1m at Famitsu but since Famitsu did it again because Capcom shipped only 2m until Sunday the correct number is Media Create's (2m).

I'm not ignoring it. But the Basic model never was attractive in the past, and everybody was purchasing the Premium one. I did realize than the Basic model is the best selling Wii U SKU on Amazon.jp at the moment, and today I saw the Basic model sold out in Ikebukuro Bic Camera.

This is just confirming what I was saying. Current Premium/Bundle price is too high if people prefer to buy the Basic now, when they didn't want to, the past two years.

YSO prediction for last week :

Pokemon ORAS 2nd week = Pokemon X/Y 2nd week

ORAS : 298k
X/Y : 473k

not exactly what I say for "equal", just % was similar (79 vs 75 iirc)

meanwhile Smash 2nd week would mean around 100k

Maybe you should post what they were expecting for Nova too.

I think I'll give more credit to them than counting comgnet points.

you can give credits to anyone you want, the fact is 470k is not equal to 300k

Nova, half on GE2, 125k, I don't forget that one

YSO it's just people who are making predictions, as someone would give credit to us for sales-age prediction league
Comgnet is a videogame shop chain from Niigata prefecture

try to be less sharp with your answers, cause I don't get anything in defending comgnet or YSO... I just wanted to point out they are just making predictions as we do, they don't tell the truth

Looks like Link is the most popular Amiibo in Japan. Media Create will probably share sales data next Friday, in the Top 50 report.

Also, Revelations 2 (retail) dated for March 12. No mention of the Vita port, but I'm sure it will be released eventually (it was leaked at TGS).

Comgnet Launch Comparison

Mario Kart 8 ----------- 426pt (325.892)
Smash Bros Wii U --- 323pt (???)
Mario 3D World ------- 164pt (99.588)

I'd say around 220k, but it's Comgnet, Smash and the holiday season, you never know!

But. They got several titles a month Duckroll

This is what the first party lineup for 2015 looks like

Febuary: Kirby
March:Mario Party
April: Xenoblade
May: Splatoon
June:Mario Maker
July: Project Robot/Project Guard/Mario Vs DK
August: Starfox
September:Yoshi's Wooly World
October Devil's Third
November: Zelda

+SMT X Fe + Pokken +Fatal Frame 5+ whatever else they announce for 2016

Its not like they dont have any third party support either. Going by whats listed on Wikipedia and the release dates the WIi U should have a library of 450+ titles released on it by the end of 2015. couple that with the VC and the Wii library you have a lot to play on the machine. The sales wont improve much other than the steady small rise it currently has so it really doesnt make sense to cut the price, but increasing it... Ehh nintendo. Try and sell more outside Japan if you want to make more money. Exchange rate is hot right now.

AoT chain is an enhanced re-release of the original. Owners of the original can upgrade to it as DLC for a discount. Fantasy Life did the same thing, hence the comparison.

You wanted to point out what I write at every post I make for YSO, that they are predictions. From what I followed last years their predictions are much closer to reality than many random predictions I see in these threads.

And they didn't say half of GE2 for Nova, they said less than half. No one forces you to believe them if you think they represent average predictions.

When I went to pick up my copy of Smash on launch day there were quite a few people also picking up theirs or at least thinking about it. Yamada denki in shibuya had sold out of the bundle with the gc adapter earlier in the day but there were plenty of solo copies and amiibos available.

I think eroge when I hear "bishoujo-game". This list makes no sense, it's just random stuff.

edit: seems like the blog writer agrees:

Yeah it does seem rather random, but well at least we get some sales numbers.

180k in 4 weeks......don't see it happening unless the DQ bundle goes crazy......I still don;t understand how that bundle works......why not just buy the PS4 when the game actually comes out.
I'd rather buy it now, get familiar with the console and everything.

I bought my Wii U one month before MH3U, and I was planning to buy a PS4 one month before Type-0 HD (but then Nintendo announced the New 3DS).

That FFX/X-2 PS4 thread seems to reconfirm what a few have been thinking. There looks to be a concerted effort by Square Enix to revive PS4's fortunes next year and ensure it's a viable platform for their continued console output. I'd expect KH on the way too to bridge the gap until 3. DQXI is probably now a lock.

I think DQXI will be on PS4(although not definitely exclusive) but I still don't think KH and FF release strategy has any bearing on it. Recent DQ releases have overwhelmingly been on 3DS still so it will be interesting to see what else they put on PS4. There is a DQ Monsters game on the way which could go PS4's way.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious now.

But there's one other theory or reason: PS4's success caught them by surprise and now they are doing quick ports.

This is more likely the reason why. If we're lucky, maybe we'll get Dragon Quest VIII HD Remaster too.
