Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2011 (Dec 05 - Dec 11)

It's a handheld system. Lots of franchises do more on handhelds than they do on consoles in Japan. It isn't a slam dunk, but it does strike me as a possibility.

Regardless, the discussion is moot. I said low to mid rage; I also said 50k-300k. Then, for some reason, you narrowed that down to a discussion exclusively about mid range games, and exclusively about games doing 200-300k.

My point was that Vita has a variety of games that can do 50k-300k and be appealing "AA" franchises -- but these are typically viewed as supplements to flesh out a library, rather than system sellers in their own right. At least, that's my theory, and Vita will be a good living expirement to test that theory.

As evidenced by the 3DS, 50k - 200k games hardly sell hardware. I took the uper range because quite frankly those would be the games selling the system at launch.

While I agree that some people may buy the system for a specific low range game (hell some people may even be buying it for Ridge Racer), the current line-up doesn't strike me as having a better selling power than the 3DS launch lineup

I'm still surprised we haven't heard much in term of big announcements for the Vita... The 3DS had pretty big names announced well before its launch. The Vita had FFX and that's about it...

There still is the FFX port, the problem here is that there´ll also be a PS3 version and a similar PS2 to PS3 example with the MGS Collection didn´t exactly made a good debut a few weeks ago in Japan. So it´s really hard to tell how it will perform on either platform.

FFX will sell and is probably going to be Vita's first 500k+ game. Wasn't Sony planing on having dual pack games? (Vita and PS3 versions together)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
But really.
What's the first shipment for Vita? We haven't had any news so far, except for the 500k that Sony intend to ship across all December of the 3G unit.

The problem with most of the announced Vita titles is that they are all also on PS3. Backports from consoles are not going to get the job done, as the PSP and early 3DS just demonstrated.

3DS and Vita are like opposites. 3DS has a ton of Japanese third-party games lined-up, while Vita has only a few. Vita is doing very well for itself with western third-party announcements compared to your typical handheld, while 3DS has absolutely nothing at all.

Vita's problem, however, is that we've seen almost nothing to confirm that many of these games are actually being made. In the 3DS's case, many of the games that we didn't see by this point never saw the light of day. Let's hope that this doesn't happen to Vita as well.

No way. Thats actually quite a lot just for 3g unit , I'm sure they'd have a higher percentage of wifi units than 3g. Doubt they'd have over a million for december?

Where'd you get 500k 3G units by the end of December? They said the first 500k 3G units would include 100 hours for free.

how did nintendogs(as a franchise) die so quick?

I think Ubisoft saturated the market with their petz games. Those were huge sellers weren't they? (i think that was mostly in the west though). Although Nintendogs was a big success, it wasn't as big in Japan in comparison to the other markets.

But even they ignore Zelda lol.

Err, no. There's Ocarina of Time 3D!

XD

cvxfreak make us noticed how OoT 3D had a better second week than Skyward Sword.
Well

06. / 05. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo) {2011.06.16} - 24.190 / 225.753 (-35%)
18./05. [WII] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword # <ADV> (Nintendo) {2011.11.23} (¥6.800) - 19.947 / 247.116 (-38%)

This horrible reality continues this week.

THE PSV HAS NO GAMES

Well, yeah... Kind of. It has a very nice launch lineup but after that there's almost nothing "significant" outside of Gravity Daze, Persona 4 and FF X (we still don't know if it's a port or a "remake", and even so, the PS3 version will probably sell more).

Ah, yes, right.

@Opiate: FFX's performance on Vita depends on... how much it does on PS3. Surely PS3 will be the best version in sales. So, if the PS3 sells something like 600k, Vita version could do 300-350k. ...Or something like that.

That's why I put in this:
outside of Resident Evil and Nintendo's stuff

But that event was crazy and the next day they added Dragon Quest to the list for the lulz.

I got banned for posting a list of all that in some Vita thread even.

Notes: The huge PS2 jump was not any big week, just the effect of an adjustment made by Famitsu on yearly sales.

And Dynasty Warriors VS, Project Mirai, some stuff I don't remember, and a couple of newly announced Nintendo games like Fire Emblem, Style Savvy and Tomodachi Collection.

all you guys are biased against Kingdom Heart 3D... it was announced at E3

3DS will catch even PS2 in the end. GBA is though.

EDIT: And now, from your favourite Japanese gaming news site, Andriasang, the live coverage of the FFXIII-2 launch event!

Because the official site for the XIII-2 "Jump 13" campaign, which is headed up by Yuko, got over 100,000 "Likes," Yuko will attend the event dressed in the skimpy download content costume that she herself designed. For that reason, and that reason alone, we've dispatched your Andriasang.com Senior Resident Evil and AKB48 Correspondent Alex "cvxfreak" Aniel to Yurakucho to shoot up the event and kidnap Yuko.

Right. But Vita doesn't even have their equivalent of "a bunch of logo's and a bunch of cancellations outside of Resident Evil and Nintendo's stuff".

I was even going to bite the bullet and pick up a Vita with UMVC3 at launch until I learned about the memory card fiasco. Now I'm just going to wait until the price drops/inevitable memory card bundle, and hopefully they drop some bombs at E3 2012, because there is absolutely nothing there right now, especially considering I'm not a huge fan of Final Fantasy or Uncharted =/

Dat rise to heaven.

We will all look back on the Mario 3D Land --> Mario Kart 3DS --> Monster Hunter 3G onslaught the way we do that first Nintendogs --> Brain Training --> Animal Crossing Wild World sequence of unstoppable DS sales juggernauts.

Damn. At this rate, 3DS will beat the DS's first year worldwide.

EDIT: Actually, that's not impressive. It 's a sure thing, though. It'll still fall WAY short of Nintendo's forecast, however.

102 seems like very good support. Was the PSP getting very significant support in its early days?

Maybe I overdid it since I included limited and budget editions. Extracting these they are 92 (Japanese since the database is under work but you get the picture)

The scary thing about Vita now is that Sony definitely isn't one to hide announcements for games even if it's a year or more away from coming. A lot of PS3's sold because strong titles like FF13 and GT5 were announced alongside the hardware, even if it was far from being released.

It does, they're just all western franchises - Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Assassin's Creed, etc.

Hopefully, this means that they've accepted that console Zelda's audience is in the west and they'll focus on the western audience for the next one.

Please god no. One of the things that makes Zelda "Zelda" is the multicultural influence. Please don't take that away :(
