Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2016 (Dec 05 - Dec 11)

How much do you think FFXV has done digitally if the total physical sales are currently 780,000?

Do you think it can reach one million sell through by fiscal year (ending March 17) including digital -at whatever estimate- we can assume?

No. The game is so heavily front loaded that it will have zero legs.

On retail alone it needs to sell 230K, but with a decent digital that number may be >150k but I can't see it having legs in the tens of thousands for long enough and after that its just going to be completely fallen off the radar.

Being generous with digital sales and FFXV is at 900k total sales now.

Selling an additional 100k its going to be very difficult.

Everyone says the last one (RE6) had bad reception, but didn't it actually sell super well despite that, especially in Japan?

Wasn't Resi 6 mostly FW sales? As in it barely had any legs following the initial release?

I mean, Final Fantasy XIII also sold well, but I don't think anyone can doubt that game was received pretty poorly.

Yes.

Resident Evil 5 opened lower but if we count the Gold version of the game, its LTD was over 1 million.

Code:
PS3	Resident Evil 5 [All Versions]	321.670	1.041.195	Capcom	3/5/2009
PS3	Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition [All Versions]	140.175	520.631	Capcom	2/18/2010
PS3	Resident Evil 5	321.670	520.564	Capcom	3/5/2009

Compared to Resident Evil 6
Code:
PS3	Resident Evil 6 [All Versions]	643.802	866.735	Capcom	10/4/2012
PS3	Resident Evil 6	643.802	837.774	Capcom	10/4/2012

These sales still can't compare to the classic Resident Evil on PS1 though.
Code:
PS1	Resident Evil 2 [All Versions]	1.389.733	2.456.651	Capcom	1/29/1998

Dragon Quest XI was supposed to release during the 30th Anniversary Year, that ends on May 26th 2017.

After watching the footage, I doubt this game will be ready in May. Might probably be a holiday release at best.

A major Squeenix game delayed? Surely you must be jesting, my good sir!

Seriously, they ARE developing 3 games at once, on 3 different platforms. No wonder it's taking a while. At least, doesn't look like development hell, unlike a certain game that has brought quite a lot of activity in this thread lately ;)

***

Noticed somethings looking at Dengeki data:

- Monster Hunter Stories has been selling rather steadily, closing in on 300k (282k at the moment)
- Dragon Ball Fusions basically at 200k
- MHX sales have been increasing steadily in the past few weeks. Nothing mindblowing, but it's pretty steady
- Monster Strike... still hasn't sold through first shipment, has it?
- Disney Magical World 2 now at 339,813. I believe the first one topped 500k, so it looks like the sequel is as leggy. Wasn't expecting that, to be honest.

I pointed this out in the other thread and people were like, but it's cool.

I mean yes, it is great to see them releasing a version specific to a hardware but they better focus on one version so they can release it soon instead of wasting their time with 3 different versions. No wonder the game has taken them a while and what they showed of DQXI for PS4 was nowhere near complete level. Basic animation, same open world that they have seen and just filled with monsters. They didn't even show the combat and the release date trailer was all CGI.

Well, that was the opening movie, not a trailer proper. DQX's first trailer was the same, iirc.
Well hopefully they show the gameplay then, because the current PS4 version looks way early to me.

Did we find which version is developed for Switch or we have to wait until January?
Switch will have its own version, likely unique to the hardware. Maybe 3DS style graphics on portable mode and PS4 style on console mode.

I believe Horii mentioned the Switch, but that's it. No confirmation about the version yet.

Hmm... I honestly didn't think of that possibility, and it does make a lot of sense. But I'm not sure Squeenix is going to develop so many different version (3DS 2D, 3DS 3D, PS4, Switch 2D, Switch 3D). Porting PS4 version is most likely the most straightforward thing to do, what with how easy porting is said to be on the Switch.

Oh well, we have less than a month until we find out!

It sold well (compare to modern RE, not classic) due to good advertising, with Leon/Chris and all important characters in the series in the front. It surely pull a lot of attentions.

RE brand is still strong, so RE7 won't do too bad, there are lots of people who will buy the game just for the name alone, like other big series. But the main concern here is the change into FPS which is not really a thing for japanese player, and without any familiar face to get fans attention, I would expect quite a drop, maybe somewhere around RE5 number at best.

So, Koei Tecmo stream is over. Here is a list

- Musou Stars releasing on March 2 for PS4/PSV
- New Atelier teased, marking the series 20th anniversary
- Dynasty Warriors 9 announced, will be open world

Open world musou?

I don't see the appeal in it.

RE7 has no familiar faces, as you said. The game also has switched to a FPS system that seems to take inspiration from popular b-grade Hollywood movies. All of these are factors that will have a significant impact for the sales in Japan and I doubt if the game will get an opening of more than 300k on PS4.

Pretty sure Switch is getting the PS4 version of DQXI. It isn't really the most hardware-demanding game and since it's on UE4, porting should be easy enough. And on this way SE can sell both versions to the Nintendo audience.
Would be cool if they port both versions though for portable and console use. Would give me a reason to double dip on it.

Koei finally decided to take drastic action for Musou brand but I don't know if moving to open world is what will make it recover or bury it.

All versions will likely be released the same day, I don't see how you can double dip.

People are going to be super disappointed in the Switch if they think switching to console mode turns it from a 3DS to a PS4.

They're going to run the chips a bit faster and maybe use the slightly faster cores from ARM's bigLITTLE setup to help with resolution of what is otherwise going to be an identical title.

On the DQ11 note, they announced it after ORCA had "just started" (a few months into development) to help hire staff.

You can see an article about them talking about their upcoming Dragon Quest project that had just begun from May 2015: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/05/2...studio-working-on-a-new-dragon-quest-project/

I would not be shocked to see it delayed given it sounds like it hasn't actually been in development all that long.

FTFY.

On the DQXI note they definitely won't put both versions on Switch because they won't want to devalue the other SKUs.

EDIT: So the people commenting that the PS4 version still looks early are probably completely correct. I wonder if the 3DS version is finished already?

Ya I think people have some very strange expectations of a tablet, regardless of power draw scenario. My laptop doesn't become my model crunching rig just because I plugged it into a socket.

That said, performance will be so comically high compared to the 3DS , that porting that version over is a bit of a weird prospect when you can just port the one on scalable, ubiquitous middleware.

I don't think either version is done, and I don't see this hitting 2017.

Damn, Koei is really going open world with almost all their titles but I dont think that alone is going to be enough to save the musou brand in Japan.

Honestly I think Musou might just be in an intractable situation.

I'm not convinced the potential audience cares anymore regardless of what they do.

I think the performance difference between console and portable mode could be like PS4 & PS4Pro.
Even if we view it as twice the power, that would be eaten up by the raw pixel count difference between 720p and 1080p.

Nah it will be a smaller gap than that. A 2x power gap would be a massive jump.

I don't think Koei Tecmo would be pumping so much cash into Ni-Oh if they weren't scared about that possibility.

They didn't really need to announce platforms. By default it's a PS4 game, the only real question for Japan is whether or not they actually drop the Vita SKU.

They need to give a break to the genre and reduce number of games released each year. Those games are huge and consume tons of time and they are making like a dozen of them each year including expanded versions.

Be more of Nintendo who rehashes same games only once each generation instead of being worse than Rock Band ;)

Well, given that it was announced alongside SCIEJA President Atsushi Morita, we can deduce that it will be a PS4 title at the very least.

Yep, but I have to wonder if they didn't announce the platforms specifically because they wouldn't announce non-sony platforms in front of a Sony rep ?

Or it's just that the game is far away from releasing.

So, mh, why didn't they announce platforms for Dynasty Warriors 9 ?

I mean, the one thing you can be sure of is it'll be on a PlayStation home console. Every other DW game has been. And the current PlayStation home console is PS4. So that doesn't really need announcing.

Maybe they just haven't decided on other platforms. I can't see there being Vita & PS3 versions of this one. XB1 for the west maybe.

How much do you think FFXV has done digitally if the total physical sales are currently 780,000?

Do you think it can reach one million sell through by fiscal year (ending March 17) including digital -at whatever estimate- we can assume?

FFXV probably does not have that many digital sales in Japan. The FF series is one where people will buy the game and console, and then sell it at the nearest BookOff a week or two later. I can walk into any second hand bookstore/game store and pick up the game for cheap. Only the most hard core fans here are willing to pay for a digital version which has no resale option available.

Is it normal for Yokai Watch to release third versions barely 6 months after the release of the original? Yikes.

Even if this time they didn't want to, after the collapse at sales of YW2 they know they don't have a lot of time left.

But there is nothing to worry, Snack World will be the next big thing, bigger that everything else before.

What would have been a reasonable expectation for Dentetsu launch? I have no gauge of it so I can't see if this is good or bad.
