I don't believe PS4 reached 4 million in Germany... it reached 3.25m in September 2016.

Best case it is a bit over 3.5m today.

RE6 launched in October 2012 for PS3... only one year before PS4 launch... the userbase was at least 1m bigger.

3.25M was at the end of July. In 2015, it sold 570K in November + December. PS4 should be well over 4M by the end of 2016.

It's not solely about hardware install Base. Software ratios were much closer last generation.

PREDICTION LEAGUE YEAR 2017

Predict how much these titles will sell this year (from Dec 26, 2016 to Dec 31, 2017):

[PS4] PlayStation 4 Hardware - 2.000.000
[NSW] Nintendo Switch Hardware - 3.200.000
[3DS] Nintendo 3DS Hardware - 1.300.000

[NSW + WIU] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 1.150.000
[3DS] Monster Hunter XX: Double Cross - 2.250.000
[NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 1.500.000
[NSW] Splatoon 2 - 2.000.000
[NSW] Super Mario Odyssey - 1.500.000
[3DS] Dragon Quest XI - 3.400.000
[PS4] Dragon Quest XI - 1.100.000

edit - thats the last of my edits now, will leave this alone :p

Big claim you have here...

It did > 100k on PS4 in Germany in one week... RE6 on PS3 did the same in 2012 (3 months and it didn't reach 200k)... there is a good chance RE7 sold more than RE6 at launch in Germany.

In the West from what we've seen in Europe RE7 is tracking right in line / slightly under RE6. Its doing very well. In the UK its just slightly under RE6 so far if we estimate digital. According to Bruno in the PAL thread it was about 85k launch then saw a 68% drop second week which would put it somewhere between 100k - 110k in 2 weeks with no digital included. That's not that much below RE6 if we factor a 20% or so digital rate. Also it had a smaller 2nd week drop than RE6 did.

So far Western sales look nothing like Japan's sales. There will also be major doom proclaimed in the NPD thread because RE7 will only have 1 week worth of tracking compared to RE6's 4 weeks of tracking its first NPD.

But outside of Japan there isn't much to be worried about from what we are seeing from RE7

Splatoon managed to sell 1.5 million on a console with around 3 million users in Japan. I'd be a little surprised if its sequel, now on a handheld device and with local 8 man multiplayer support, managed to sell less.

Didn't want to post a new thread in case I looked stupid but Gonintendo is saying DQH2 has local multiplayer on Switch and linking to this article.

A) Is it true?
B) Did Vita have local multiplayer?

Maybe we had the kiss of death for Akiba's Trip too this week after Akiba's Beat performance.

That reminds me the Vita version of Akiba's Beat is supposed to be out in a few weeks. Acquire has done literally 0 promo for it with the date only being known due to retailer listings. They've given up.

Yes to both of those questions. In addition to ad-hoc support, the Vita version also supported cross-platform multiplayer with the PS3 and PS4 versions.

Cool, I'd only ever seen Online multiplayer referred to so I wasn't sure if that was a new addition.

That was with an extra year of sales and on a system that already had a (barely) large enough install base when the game released. It will surely outsell the original over the course of the Switch's lifetime, but we are solely talking about sales that occur in 2017.

It could sell more than what I predicted in 2017, but I think around 1.3 to 1.6 million is the most likely range, with a bit of upside potential above that, but not 4 million.

About Splatoon 2 the thing I'm most interested about is the impact (if any) of paid online on the online scene.

You are entitled to your predictions, but you are taking some crazy pills on Zelda/Splatoon and sleeping hard on Dragon Quest.

Everyone knows very well what my opinion is on the handheld Japanese market for Splatoon 2. Also I've already said a couple of times I expect the Switch to sell slightly better than 3DS in it's first year. I simply think 3DS had a title like Splatoon in it's first year it could have sold a lot more - regardless of the price. I also strongly believe the Switch is going to be a lot more comfortable long term for handheld gaming and that 3D wasn't really successful driver for 3DS sales.
The market has contracted since the 3DS release but we are talking about a huge upgrade in terms of pretty much everything. That's why I've said that Splatoon 2 provides something that is attractive from the getgo for the device and you have it topped of with things like Zelda, MK8D, Super Mario Odyssey, DQ, Minecraft in it's first year in Japan things are going to be very reminiscent of 2011 December. It's also a system that I believe will end up a lot more frontloaded similar to the Wii but more attractive because of the portability.

I'm the guy that said Nintendo could have sold 10 million Switches in Japan year one if it is priced at $200. Perhaps I will end up totally wrong about my predictions but I'm 100% sure it's going to be closer to what I'm saying than 2 million devices and 1.5 million Splatoon 2 copies. That would be a disaster first year in Japan compared to the 3DS and the caliber of game Splatoon 2 is potentially compared to any game that came out on the 3DS year one.
Also I think Switch version will sell the best out of 3DS/PS4 because I think it will be a holiday title and Switch is going to be the most gifted system this December.

In terms of Zelda I just think it has potential to be the most popular Zelda game in Japan in a long while.

[PS3] Battlefield 3 - 303.777
[PS3] Battlefield 4 - 237.243
[PS4] Battlefield: Hardline - 213.672

Shooters on PS4

01. Call of Duty: Black Ops III - 392.977
02. Battlefield 1 - 320.680
03. Battlefield 4 - 312.681
04. Star Wars: Battlefront - 223.055
05. Battlefield: Hardline - 213.672
06. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege - 210.707
07. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - 197.765
08. Overwatch - 179.358
09. Destiny - 141.736
10. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - 108.639

Siege should have no problem outselling Battlefront, it'll also become Ubisoft's best selling game in Japan in the process.

Resident Evil 7 is currently the 15th best selling game on PS4, by the time we get Famitsu estimates at the end of the month it should be matching Battlefield 1's sales at worst and Yakuza 6's sales at best, by the end of March we should get that game's final digital update until it goes into some crazy discounts, ceiling for 7 is 400k, i/e, Dark Souls III/Knack levels.

GTA V surpasses 400k retail sales on PS4 making it the 3rd best selling game on the system, it should've outsold GTAIII in a few months.

I doubt Capcom's investors feel the same.

Next up Monster Hunter: The Movie: The Game for PS4(/XBO/PC).

Thankfully, I'm not a Capcom investor; I'm just interested in playing good games. Resident Evil 7 made me care about the series again, and I can't wait to see how they build on it with the next entry. They're going to garner a lot of good will from releasing a fantastic title.

Someone asked Tabata about Final Fantasy XV and the Switch, and got some additional comments out of him. I know this was one of the frequently discussed games for the platform here.

Tabata not a big Nintendo fan, then? The interview basically went:

"G: Will FFXV be on Switch?"

"T: Ha, like it'd run on a Nintendo system, fool!"

"G: Umm...have you bothered to check?"

"T: Well, no, not done that because, well, it's a Nintendo system. You can't do mainline FF on there anymore...fool!"

"G: Sooooo, you've not checked"

"T: Nope, and I'm not going to, fool!"

"G: Come on, there's no chance of it ever coming?"

"T: FFS... I said NO! There is interest because there are Nintendo fans in BD2, but I'm certainly not one of them. So it's not happening. Full stop. But hey, how about some shitty Android apps on the Switch screen? That's more like it... FOOL!"

I don't believe PS4 reached 4 million in Germany... it reached 3.25m in September 2016.

Best case it is a bit over 3.5m today.

RE6 launched in October 2012 for PS3... only one year before PS4 launch... the userbase was at least 1m bigger.

Unless Ps4 was massively down YOY compared to 2015, it should be way over 4 million.

I guess it makes sense to ask here..

do we know how are switch preorders and hype in general looking like in Japan?? I haven't read about that topic anywhere.

Games just don't have that type of sell-through ratio with consoles. I wouldn't say your Switch number is unreasonable at 4.5 million... it could happen if the system really catches on. Just no game ever is going to reach 89% penetration for a single console without being an exclusive pack-in.

Also I'm predicting more than 2 million for the Switch (3.3 million).

I guess it makes sense to ask here..

It's sold out everywhere fwiw.

28./28. [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons X: God Chapter / Dragon Chapter <RPG> (GungHo Online Entertainment) {2016.07.28} (¥4.800) - 2.180 / 300.968 <80-100%> (-27%)

This will sell on par with the Mario game in the end
it needed to hit bomba bins, but still

According to Famitsu, P&DX first shipment was ~250k, it can be easily calculated checking the sell-through each week. So the game is recieving new shipments, not bomba bins.
Media Create hasn't shared sell-through, but Dengeki estimated 45% sell-through for the first week (~87k sales), meaning that for Dengeki, first shipment was around ~200k.

On the other side, P&D Super Mario Edition had a first shipment between 355k and 360k, according to Famitsu. And the last known number for the game is 325k, so still has some copies to go. This one was the bomba bin game, not P&DX.

That had a development team of 600 people though and a much higher budget, so it doesn't need to do as much. Not sure about Japan, but WW 7 is probably way more profitable.

Capcom's projections state 4 million WW sell through for the end of March. Without Japan pulling its weight, it's much more unlikely to make it. So its profitability is more likely but still in question.

Eh, if losing sales in Japan is what it took to reinvigorate the series with a fantastic entry, it was well worth it.

Even if the sales are low enough to put the company that makes them at risk?

I doubt Capcom's investors feel the same.

Next up Monster Hunter: The Movie: The Game for PS4(/XBO/PC).

Yeah, this is kind of the problem. Capcom has been on shaky ground with investors for the better half of a decade now.

Thankfully, I'm not a Capcom investor; I'm just interested in playing good games. Resident Evil 7 made me care about the series again, and I can't wait to see how they build on it with the next entry. They're going to garner a lot of good will from releasing a fantastic title.

Good will and a quality product can't do much for you when you've spent money building a new state-of-the-art development facility that costs over half of your liquid assets and need to see returns to justify that investment.

While as a gamer you're on cloud 9 now, you won't be if this causes Capcom to spiral again and lose their focus like they did a few years ago, which will come at a cost to all of their development.

Oh well, at least I got a good Resident Evil game again before they go under. RIP, Capcom.

Ah, so you're a "fuck you, got mine" type and have no care for the health of the industry as a whole, so much so that you'll never see a good Resident Evil game again afterwards and be overjoyed by the notion. Got it. Will keep that in mind for the future.

The game is selling fine outside Japan

Checking Famitsu's sell-through, RE7 shipment is lower than ~341k. This is in line of Media Create, they reported ~320k units shipped first week.
Dengeki on the other side reported ~377k units shipped, quite higher than the other two trackers (they often report higher shipments).

This week Media Create's and Famitsu's sales are closer than last week (33k difference LTD). If next week the difference keeps going closer, it won't be a discrepancy anymore, but a margin error difference.

Curious about why DQXI Switch isn't on the prediction list.

It will most likely outsell the PS4 version.

But is it "3.75 million units in a month" fine?

We'll have to see the US first but probably. Its supposed to ship 4 million units not sell through 4 million, by the end of March. It did 2.5 week 1.

If they somehow miss 4 its going to be very close. Worth noting the game hasn't started dropping in price at all yet in the US which while its obviously very recent release, we aren't seeing any reactionary drops yet.

Nope, I'm just not horribly pessimistic about their future so I employed a bit of sarcasm.

How? Why?

It will.

Switch LTD by the end of 2017 will be close to PS4 LTD right now.

DQ matches well with the Nintendo demographic and the Switch will be portable.

Everything points to the Switch being a massive success in Japan.

My question is why do you think DQXI Switch wouldn't outsell the PS4 version?

HA! good luck and we shall see. Sure its portable but its still huge for a portable device, anyone know how large it is compared to 3ds?

Vs the XL(the most popular SKU)

Price will be more of a barrier than size.
