Why would the Japanese way make sense in a pre-dominately NA forum?

Would it make sense for us all to type only in Japanese in this thread too?
I've actually been confused by the use of MMDDYY in this forum several times. Since I am used to think DDMMYY, it's no wonder I'd prefere that. But since as you say, this is a "pre-dominately NA forum", that wouldn't make sense either. That's why I thought having these japanese threads in the japanese date format could be the best for both parts. And why knows, we might have Japanese people on this board too?

And, well yeah. You are right. If we followed that logic, we should have these threads in Japanese. But then most euro and US forum members wouldn't understand :)

The double colons are the worst thing about the thread title.

I'll change the archive thread only once. Decide what's the format you want:

Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010: {13/12/10 - 19/12/10} ->

Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 {13/12/10 - 19/12/10}
Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 {13 December 2010 - 19 December 2010}
Media Create Sales: 13 December 2010 - 19 December 2010
Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010

It should be:

Media Create Sales Week 50: 13 - 19 December 2010
or
Media Create Sales Week 50: December 13 - 19 2010

You want a title that's easy to read and does not repeat information more than necessary.

EDIT: For the archives, you don't even need the year. The title of the post does that for you.

millions in the US, thousands in Japan.

Not even the Square Enix lable could save it.

This is the second release of the game. The subtitled version released in November has already sold over 200k in Japan.

Some comments...

01. / 01. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) {01/12/10} - 581.543 / 3.161.801 (-8%)
Madness, guess it'll be first a few more weeks too. Always thought this would open way higher than 2G but had a doubt it'll catch the LTD since 2G had 32 months until next MH was released, 3 wouldn't have that much time (certainly won't, be it 3G or just PSP going down). But its at 3,16m already and looks like it'll pass not just MHP2G combined but DQ7-9 as well. Capcom would be really stupid to wait long before 3G, 2->2G was 13 months, 3->3G should be 12...maximum.

02. / 00. [PS3] Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 (Bandai Namco) {16/12/10} - 185.908 / NEW
171k -> 176k -> 186k
Looks like it doesn't matter if there is a PS2 release alongside or not (2nd game had it). There's just a fixed amount of Gundam fans out there getting it for PS3.

06. / 00. [PSP] Shining Hearts (Sega) {16/12/10} - 106.733 / NEW
Said before but Shining highest debut ever (that we have numbers for) before this one was Wind PS2 83k, and highest LTD is Force Exa PS2 130k, doable for Hearts.

13. / 12. [NDS] Magician's Quest: The Merchant’s Store of Sorcery (Konami) {11/11/10} - 38.140 / 175.195 (+39%)
Pretty good, going up and such it'll get close to the first one (445k LTD).

| PS3 | 49.515 | 41.882 |
I think no one mentioned it but this was the week PS3 saw some new SKUs. It just doesn't work Sony, slap this bitch with a 20k yen price so software can continue doing good as lately even if hardware sales are shitty as lately and usual :lol

Aww, too bad about Umineko. But as long as the PC games sell well enough I'll live.

Regarding the date format, why not use ISO 8601? That is yyyy-mm-dd. It makes so much sense.

I'm leading to one of these:

Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 {13 December - 19 December}
Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 [13 December - 19 December]
Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 (13 December - 19 December)
Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2010 |13 December - 19 December|

Since I'll edit the database regarding dates:

{13/12/10 - 19/12/10} 01. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) {01/12/10} - 581.543 / 3.161.801

[13/12/10 - 19/12/10] 01. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) [01/12/10] - 581.543 / 3.161.801

(13/12/10 - 19/12/10) 01. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) (01/12/10) - 581.543 / 3.161.801

|13/12/10 - 19/12/10| 01. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) |01/12/10| - 581.543 / 3.161.801

For dates I can use DD/MM/YY or YY/MM/DD. MM/DD/YY confuses me.

The easy solution is to use my patent pending two-letter abbreviations for months.

JA, FE, MR, AP, MY, JE, JL, AU, SE, OC, NO, DE.

edit: also, European smugness continues as everyone realises it's the only date format that makes some goddamn sense. Day < Month < Year

If you have a whole bunch of data connected to dates, and you want them chronologically, you can only achieve that by year/month/day.

I'm European.

Year Month Day is the only format that makes any sense because it's the only format where more recent dates are mathematically always superior to less recent dates. :p

I'd say the Japanese format is close. The only system that doesn't make any sense is the American system - I can understand going from little to large (or least important to most important), and visa versa, but putting the month before the day... I honestly have no idea why you'd do that.

Japanese system is ok too, Year < Month < Day, either way at least they're ordered in terms of size, which makes sense unlike the fucking bizarre US system.

Guys guys guys just use the unix timestamp yo. Who cares about readability.

I kid I kid

The US system is bizarre but like miles and fahrenheit it makes sense if you grow up with it.

I'm from New Zealand and spent the first 25 years of my life writing dates as day/month/year. Only took a few months of living in America to realize month/day/year or year/day/ month works better.

But I have a birthday that's really easy to get backwards, (11/12 or 12/11) so I came up with those two-letter abbreviations. Shame they never caught on. :D

Tri was the most successful MH on consoles in Japan and a million seller over there and the most successful (console and handheld) in Europe and US. And yes it would be interesting to see what a MH (multiplattform) would do on 3DS and how it will affect the PSP2.

mmmm, The Wii game did better than other Non-Portable versions...

That has more to do with the size of the franchise than some magical mystic Wii powers. MH blew up on the PSP, and Tri was the first new installment on a console after it blew up.

What would have done a PS3 exclusive version (instead of the Wii) in your opinion?

Exaggeration. For a exaggerated-less post, 'sold as much or worse than the wii version, bombing and price collapsing as much or worse than the wii version'.

Since it sold 800k-900k rather quickly I doubt it was in anyway a flop like you are trying to imply, but it was indeed overshipped 1.1m first week (?) were just too much. What would have done a PS3 exclusive version (let´s say first 4 weeks sales combined) in your opinion?

We'd probably be still waiting for it to see release, but in the imaginary case we could swap MH3 Wii for MH3 PS3 keeping other variables intact (release date, game itself, buzz, hardware sales, initial shipment) it'd have sold as much or worse, leaving 300k or more stock still to be sold with discounts after those 4 weeks.

It's weird how MH can have both revolutionary sales and epic price collapses in the span of 18 months.

It will also be weird how PSP will probably get the best selling third party game ever.
This generation has been pretty crazy.

Did the PS3 even have any million seller by the time MH3 was released on Wii? PS3s best sellers at the time were 350k-500k at best, the only exception beeing MGS4. I doubt retailers would have had a lot of confidence and probably would have ordered considerably less.

Year Month Day is the only format that makes any sense because it's the only format where more recent dates are mathematically always superior to less recent dates. :p

Also it's sad to see the Wii sell so much again. Almost nothing has released for it, but that bump is massive. WTH!?

Oh well, another crappy prediciton by me(that PS3 would keep its lead). I am depressed.
Nintendo games has been released and that's all that matter.
