I don't think what charts or doesn't chart in a top10 for the year have much to do with anything other than the fact that there is a huge divide between successful games and very successful games. If we're talking about the raw sales, there are tons of titles not in the top10 yearly charts which are very successful. They're just not million sellers and multi-million sellers.

None of the MGS games in Japan are million sellers, and the only KH game that broke a million in Japan is KH2.

150k shipped is also the highest shipment record for the Shining series in 15 years. :lol
Thinking twice about this, we have Shining series data from Shining the Holy Ark (Dec 96) onwards, so one of the prior titles (that we don't have any data for) must have shipped more. I immediately thought of Mega Drive/Genesis SF2 but that was 93...so it must have been Shining Wisdom (11th August 1995) on the Saturn, the only on it we don't have data for.

BUT we do have some data from 1995 so despite the launch missing, Shining Wisdom appeared on the first three post-summer weeks this website has:
Week 8 - 9/25-10/1 - 13,184
Week 9 - 10/2-10/8 - 4,716
Week 10 - 10/9-10/15 - 8,534
Making it very likely this is the one that shipped 15 years ago more than Hearts so far.

Weekly sales of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2 are extrapolated from Famitsu points but that's the best we have. LTD numbers are from Famitsu yearly sales though (except Donkey Kong Country that is shipment)

Apparently there's a leaked Famitsu top 50 out there for Dec 13-19:

32,ファイナルファンタジーXIII(アルティメット ヒッツ インターナショナル),XB360 "13,500","13,500",

FFXIII International.

I see a similar pattern. Can we expect 850.000-900.000 LTD for DKC Returns then? Or maybe is too much?

It's possible it sold more than 200k last week, so it's not too much.

It has already thousands of views at that blog, if it goes down it won't be from us. But it's not so important, it's last week's.

New Super Mario Bros will be crossing 6 million for this week's charts.

Oh shit, it's encroaching into original NES Super Mario Bros territory!

Whether or not it eventually catches it all depends on how well Nintendo get the point across that original DS games are playable on 3DS and how long they can keep it on store shelves.

I'm wondering, what game sales wise(not what you are interested in game-wise) in Japan are you most interested in on the horizon for 2011?

________________________________

Let me just start with my pick

El-Shaddai PS3/X-Box

We've seen A bunch of Internet phenomenons become blast-out hits this year hatsune miku, Etc. On the other hand we've seen games that have been Internet topics tank horribly in past years (poor opoona).

El-shaddai topping the lists of 2010 Internet buzz words in Japan, all over 2-ch and seemingly having a rather large amount of the female fans, sets up it to be a true test of whatever the carnivals of the net can equal into real sales for games. Or will it end up just being a snakes on the train scenario.

Runner up:

Idol Master 2: What will the addition of the boy band Jupiter do for the sales?

Thanks mate. Seems that SE + MH clone (however shitty it is) means profit...

Profit? Those are pretty awful sales considering it's the most popular genre on that platform right now.

15. [PSP] God Eater (Bandai Namco) - 634,244 / 634,244
29. [PSP] God Eater Burst (Bandai Namco) - 388,065 / 388,065

Even a shitty ass publisher like Bandai Namco can get a new million selling franchise with the genre. Square Enix selling barely 100k is total failure.

Yeah. S-E really missed the oportunity by not making a more appealing MH clone.

I think an ARPG for four players with classic FF/DQ monsters and locations could've been huge.

I really can't possibly see NSMB DS outselling Super Mario Bros., unless somehow it still manages to sell with 3DS systems, or it gets some sort of budget release. It's simply mind blowing though that the game can sell this far after release, you'd think every shop would have used copies.

Also I think judging after next weeks numbers for Black and White we will be able to determine whether it can outsell Diamond and Pearl. Which I think it should, despite the front loaded nature of this entry.

The last number we had for each is ...

Deng - 844,980
MCre - 767,348
Fams - 729,273

so about 40-55K off chart growth from each tracker.

3DS is by far the most interesting thing regarding sales next year.

Far second for me are The Last Story, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Tales of Xillia.

somehow, I can see NSMB DS surpassing SMB.

Unless nintendo all of a sudden kills everything that is related to the current DS, the system will keep selling decently, more so with nintendo pricing the 3DS so high and as long as the DS exists, NSMB will keep selling. The game seems to be the first choice when people want a game to buy together with their brand new DS.

It does depend on how nintendo handles the situation but we should consider that every single move that nintendo does to spur the old DS' sales will result in a boost on NSMBs sales. If nintendo decides to sell old DSi's at a price point of, say, $70 or $80 bucks, NSMB could sell up to 50k that week.

I think it's very possible.

How much did New Super Mario Bros DS sell in 2010?

EDIT: I didnt see Chris1964's post before i asked. Thanks :) I think it will be hard for NSMB to sell about 800k more, especially with the 3DS coming. But i guess that it isnt impossible.

That's #50 if you combine SKUs

Nothing specific announced so far but January to March absolutely nuts lineup will be really interesting. And new system to boot, successor to the 32m one. It can't get any better.

wow yikes, and in that post I thought they would slowly lower the difference, Dengeki managed to make the difference even bigger and MC and Famitsu are now closer by 169 units, which is less than what they grew closer in that week I mentioned it! :lol

Since you're combining SKUs and R/B/G already is combined with Yellow, can you go ahead and add in Crystal to Gold/Silver (7,960,810), Emerald to Ruby/Sapphire (7,504,384), and Platinum to Diamond/Pearl (8,325,544)?

Thanks. :)

I wonder if nintendo still asks from the japanese the equivalent of €39.99 euros like they do in Europe.

When/If nintendo decides to budge and lower the price of their premium first party games, it may sell more than last year (2010), 800k might be a bit of a stretch but who knows. Maybe nintendo announces a special edition or something. In such case, I think it's guaranteed that it will surpass SMB.

There are a couple of things nintendo could do to "force" it past SMB but I am not sure they care about that.

It's technically still full price (¥4800) but many stores have it discounted to about ¥3700.

¥3,727 = 34.4 Euro (+ VAT) = $45.45 U.S.

And Amazon is offering the lowest price on the new game. Used starts at ¥3,040 with shipping.

You never know. The 3DS might actually give NSMB a boost thanks to the backwards compatibility.
