Those aren't exclusive to PS4.

doesnt matter they will boost PS4...anyone thinking consoles were dead in japan are over reacting, yes it is not what it used to be but ps4 has had nothing this year, yet last few months it's baseline keeps increasing, when DQ, MGS, FF, Bloodborne, Y
s, Disgaea and others release, plus a price drop next year ps4 will be healthy in japan.

Japan was always going to be a slow burn and slow start. it will get better for ps4 there, and already is.

Those aren't exclusive to PS4.
They are Playstation exclusives and still it can help the PS4 sales to boost considering other PS4 exclusives like UC4, Tomorrow children, Ratchet, Order, many japan related and 3rd party cross/gen exclusives etc., which will help PS4 sales little overall by keeping its momentum better because of its game diversity that it offers compared to other platforms next year.

6./13. [3DS] Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 3 # <ACT> (Koei Tecmo) {2014.12.04} (¥6.264) - 6.238 / 23.884 <40-60%> (-65%)
29./07. [PSV] Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 3 # <ACT> (Koei Tecmo) {2014.12.04} (¥7.344) - 5.246 / 28.890 <40-60%> (-78%)

...Ah! It must be a result of the Holiday's effect.

It will be interesting which version ends up selling better or if they´ll do about the same.

27./00. [3DS] Yoshi's New Island <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.07.24} (¥4.936) - 5.948 / 229.057 <80-100%>

Yay, it's rising for the holidays :). I hope it will stay in the top 30 for the remainder of the year. Together with our last known Yoshi number in the US, 287k after june, it's at over half a million between those two regions. Too bad it will probably not reach a million worldwide though :(.

At this rate if PS4 gets the next DQ mainline game, then consoles will be saved in Japan.
One of the guys who works at Compile Heart mentioned the other day the he wants DQ11 on PS4.

Hilarious as it turned the Japanese forums into a system war frenzy for the game like any mention of it does >.>

Wow... wtf at those PS4 numbers. Wouldn't have thought we'd see a home console pull in numbers like that again.
It's great for PS4 but what? Wii U pulled higher numbers than that this week just last year, these numbers aren't unheard of a console even recently.

Some are getting carried away with the PS4 saved thing.

Well, at least this cements that give or take, all of Sony's core markets will have sold >1mil PS4s within a year of release or so.

The PS4...

It's still better than what the PS3 ever did in the first half of December (except for FFXIII launch) which is a positive.

I wonder if Type-0 HD will do well in Japan. I am guessing people that wanted the game already played the PSP version at some point. It will be interesting to see if the FFXV demo will lead to good 1st week numbers.

Dragon Quest Heroes numbers will also be interesting for next year.

I know a lot of games are cross-gen but:

New Ys
DQ Heroes
MGS V
FF Type-0 HD
Disgaea 5
Persona 5

And a few others. I'm expecting a decent year for the PS4.

While PS4 did great considering its current standards (certainly much more than I expected), I'd say sorine is right here. First of all, we need to see how much the console will hold next week.

Also, MC will share DQ bundle numbers, right? So, we know both its impact on overall numbers (surely big) and, above all, basically Dragon Quest Heroes' first week on PS4 XD

Good performance by the DQH special edition bundle, but still worse than WiiUs week50 performance last year. It would be interesting to know what percentage of worldwide collectors, import-shops and scalpers is of this weeks total sales.

The thing is it's a bundle without the game being out yet and there a lot of games coming out next year. PS4 will do ok in Japan in the long run. Definitely better than WiiU.

Depending on how the rest of this month goes, for 2014 we could be looking at the Yokai Watch franchise having about 6 million unit sales, and the Pokemon franchise with 3 million unit sales. Pretty interesting year for Level-5. :p

Looked on my database for yearly sales of franchises according to Famitsu.

Code:
Only over 6 million:

Pokémon	1999	7,378,495
Mario	2007	7,061,525
Mario	2006	6,567,966
Pokémon	2010	6,186,505
Mario	2012	6,101,752
Pokémon	2006	6,003,889

3rd party peak by franchise:

Dragon Quest	2004	5,252,052
Yo-Kai Watch	2014	5,249,786 (year not over yet)
Final Fantasy	1997	5,031,972
Monster Hunter	2010	4,751,157

It would be interesting to see the total over any 52 week as well, but that's more complicated to calculate.

What? For Nintendo consoles sure, with their strong holiday performances. PS3 struggled to get anywhere near this in December.
