Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2016 (Dec 12 - Dec 18)

I was talking more overall with 12 helping push 15 a bit and some nice sales for NA, not just Japan.

I do believe it will hit over one million life time. I don't have any doubt in 15 hitting a million in Japan for it's lifetime.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Fairly certain there will not be online like on Wii U period (or did I miss an announcement?).

I would be surprised if they dont add in online trading with an update next year - especially if they really wanna keep the 3DS going for 2017.

Why are you comparing a brand new SaGa game made in the style of the much more popular entries with remakes of the oldest entries of the series?

We should be comparing with Unlimited SaGa and Minstrel Song, not SaGa 2 DS and SaGa 3 DS.

Well the former are console games and released over a decade ago(and Unlimited SaGa is dogshit) compared to handheld games that were released less than 10 year ago.

Saying that I didn't realise the SaGa remake came out all the way back in 2009!

I certainly wouldn't, they would have announced it already if that was the case. Would love to be wrong, though.

By the way, hiska-kun, can you share a graph for Kirby? Just noticed Robobot was nearing 500k, should end up around 600k LTD.

18./15. [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.04.28} (¥4.700) - 10.678 / 496.521 (+45%)

Compared to those two Scarlet Grace did terribly lol, but like you said earlier, this isn't a big project for SE. It feels Setsuna-level in terms of production values (No VA, right?) and promotion.

Those SaGa numbers are not good. Expect a PS4 port in the near future to recoup losses.

I'm sure SE will really appreciate the extra 15,000 units...

I think it's painfully clear that Scarlet Grace is one of these to SE. It makes complete sense too, since Romancing SaGa 2 was launched on PSV/iOS/Android.

Unlimited SaGa is "dogshit" that sold 438k.

While many game did really well for me, i am quite shocked that Jikkyou Power Pro 3DS did that low.O_O

I mean wut? I thought this game is a sure great seller title here especially after how 3DS is starved off Jikkyou title.
Players can get their Jikkyou fix on mobile though for free.

100k is a very low bar for SaGa. I think we need to expect more for there to be serious investment in the franchise moving forward. SaGa is not a small niche series in Japan even though everyone outside of Japan treats it as such. If it can sell >200k (with digital maybe, retail might be hard because of the used market) I think there will be strong renewed confidence in the franchise.

Keep in mind that this game is something selling entirely on the passion of the fanbase alone. People who love the story and game design style of SaGa, Kobayashi's art, and Ito's music. It has almost zero support from S-E in terms of actual marketing, it has zero support in production (game feels like it was coded by interns!), and it is a Vita exclusive even though it is made in Unity, with no interest from S-E to release it on PS4 at the same time.
SaGa is indeed the fourth best selling JRPG series for SE after Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts.
SaGa series LTD is about 9.90M units (well probably past 10M now with Scarlet).

So according to Famitsu, SaGa must have shipped somewhere between 75-100k. It's not completely sold out. Fingers crossed for next week's numbers!

Nintendo really oughta get Minecraft on Switch ASAP. It's too bad there's no camera control option for a single Joycon, it would be killer for splitscreen Minecraft.

Minecraft Wii U is every week higher than PSV version on Famitsu, and total sales for this one are more than 100k lower than MC.

There's a huge discrepance.

Quick look at Famitsu data:

03./03. [3DS] Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.12.01} (¥4.700) - 151.192 / 428.006 <60-80%> (+29%)

Wow, retailers did order a lot... given sales, they were totally spot on, though.

06./26. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura # <RPG> (Level 5) {2016.07.16} (¥4.800) - 40.203 / 1.355.843 <80-100%> (+915%)

Nice increase there, buddy. Should've expected them to combine the two.

09./06. [3DS] Miitopia <SLG> (Nintendo) {2016.12.08} (¥4.700) - 24.280 / 52.511 <40-60%> (-14%)

Still a lot of unsold copies, but unless sales drop sharply next week, it should easily avoid bomba bins.

14./12. [3DS] Mario Party: Star Rush <ETC> (Nintendo) {2016.10.20} (¥4.700) - 13.390 / 110.610 <60-80%> (+74%)
16./09. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo <ETC> (Nintendo) {2016.11.23} (¥2.700) - 11.643 / 48.453 <40-60%> (+26%)

Surprised the sell-through ratio is that low for these.

C0NS-eTXAAA5nAI.jpg

Some people called it back when the physical version was announced. It's definitely amusing, to say the least.

I would say those Famitsu sellthrough percentages for Sukiyaki are closer to 80% than 60%.

If some retailers ran out of copies, it definitely is.

Nintendo really oughta get Minecraft on Switch ASAP. It's too bad there's no camera control option for a single Joycon, it would be killer for splitscreen Minecraft.

Well, how soon Minecraft ends up on the Switch depends on how soon Nintendo thinks it safe to send a devkit for their brand new console to a direct competitor.

Even the PS4 and XB1 got Minecraft rather late.

Ouch, that's not a good figure for Yo-kai Watch. I guess the fad for it is over and it's now going to join the pantheon of classic Japanese series that will do moderately well to great, but no longer break records like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest :)

I wonder what the news on the Vita version that they were teasing for today is. Cancellation?

Maybe they pull a Falcom and put extra content on the later release to entice double dippers. A whole 5k potential audience of double dippers.

Honestly, though...are there other major differencies compared to the other episodes of the series that can explain this major decrease, alongside its release on PS4?

U know here Duckroll. It makes me wonder here why Kawazu still stays in S-E there when S-E does not really care for his effort. I mean, he made such an effort to make one of the most successful jrpg in Jp and he don't seem to get enough support there.T_T

- Action-RPG instead of 'open-world' brawler.
- No licenced shops from Akihabara in the world.
- General lower-budget feeling compared to previous games (i.e. NPCs are coloured silhouettes instead of individual designs).
- PS4-only release of previously handheld-focused franchise

I'm sure they all played a role in the decline.

Nintendo 3DS - Road to 22 million LTD

LTD sales = 21 913 661
Units left = 86 339
Weeks left = 2 weeks
Needs = 43 169 units / week.

Yeah, no more suspense since last week, so no surprise here. Only major shortages would make the 3DS miss the 22m mark this year. Already at 22m with the Pokémon 2DS bundles.

Nintendo 3DS - Road to 2m YTD

YTD sales = 1 727 659
Units left = 272 341
Weeks left = 2 weeks
Needs = 136 170 units / week.

That one may be a bit tough, will depend on how good Week 51 sales are (and how big Week 52 drop is). If you add the Pokémon 2DS bundles, should be no trouble for 2m this year.

So adding it up Pokemon at least has 8.7 Million sold.
2.1 Europe
3.7 Americas
2.9 Japan
8.7 Million at least in these 3 territories.
Pretty good :)
I like that FFXV hold too.
Ps4 doing well
