Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2013 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

So:

Week 52, 2013

3DS - 209K
WIU - 79K
PSV - 70K
PS3 - Nearly 26K (Wii U nearly 3x PS3 sales)
Vita TV - 5.6K

#1. Link Between Worlds Debut - 225K
#2. Puzzles & Dragons - 199K (>1 million LTD)

Phantom Hourglass Debut - 288K (902K LTD)
Spirit Tracks Debut - 321K (740K LTD)
Ocarina of Time 3D Debut - 183K (>601K LTD)
Link Between Worlds Debut - 225K

That's a bit disappointing compared to the previous DS iterations, but debuting higher than Ocarina of Time 3D gives me hope that it won't fare too poorly.

Wii U dropping down to 79K is a sign that sales are going to come crashing down once Week 2 starts back up.

I think Vita TV had all the chances in the world to be a compelling project, but Sony didn't want to take the risks to put too much effort in figuring out how to make it anything but a vanity accessory.

I would have expected a higher Vita jump. Vita TV just isn't a good system.

I actually expected somewhat less for Vita (between 50k - 60k iirc), so seeing it reach 70k is quite nice. FFX/X-2 definitely sold some systems. I wonder how many Vita FF bunldes were sold.

Nice opening for Zelda. Also the WiiU getting back to low sales.

Yeah only Vita went up due to FFX/X2, not a terribly big bump though I would think.

Oh I didn't realized this. So the bump caused by FFX/X-2 was actually more significant than it might seem.

If Sony markets it right, then it has a chance of somewhat succeeding in the west. But with SCEA "effort" on the Vita front, it's gonna be ded over here as well.

Oh well.

I want that iPhone for 0 Yen down when you sign up with an AU account. Too bad I'm a SoftBank guy. P

If it's not your first phone, you should be able to get an iphone from softbank for nothing down. My first phone with Softbank (iphone 4) I had to pay for the whole phone upfront, but when I upgraded to the iphone 5 (still with Softbank), I didn't have to pay upfront. They just split the cost and put it on my monthly payment.

They told me that since it was just a phone change and that I was not totally new that I didn't need to pay upfront.

After the day one 60-70% sellthrough and the reports of sold out, the only disappointment here is Nintendo's shipment.

Have we ever gotten FF X/X-2 numbers for PSV/PS3? And we will be getting two weeks data, right. I hope FF X/X-2 at least manages to outsell the dreaded Lightning Returns.

Yeah I figured Wii U wasn't going to sell 100k no matter what dates were in the period it fell in.Vita had a decent week with thanks to the final fantasies. Now it and Wii U are about to come crashing down although Vita will be to a lesser extent.

I'd be shocked if FFX doesn't outsell LR.

didn't you make a bet with someone that the vita would be the highest selling console because ffx? ;p

I did and hey, I lost.

I'm trying to get a hold of Soriku through twitter msg so I can pay up my debt.

Vita have decent bump, but less than my expectation. I'm worried there will be a massive drop for Vita (and Wii U) in Week 1 of 2014.

Well the new years should somewhat mitigate the Wii U drop although Vita will drop just because there is no big software in week 1. Week 2 I think is where the real dropoff will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Wii U was under 20k in week 2

I'm glad WiiU and Zelda did better than I expected, Question sales get better on Week 1 becauase of the New Year's money ?

Solid numbers for vita, hopefully it doesn't crash too hard.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't. I don't think it made a recovery in the recent weeks, more like Japan is the only country where 3d world didn't fall on its face.

What about the 90% sellthrough that Ocarina of Time had on 3DS according to Media Create and the +600k LTD sales?

OoT 3D still sold quite less than ST and was a slow burner.

they probably expect this game to be a slow burner too. Zelda's popularity in japan has taken quite a hit recently.

OoT was a remake and was launched in one million userbase and when the 3DS wasn't in its best moment. Still, managed a 90% sellthrough and 600k LTD.

A new entry in a +14 million userbase should have shipped much more. No more excuses.

We are talking about Portable Zelda, and the last Portable Zelda did great, and it was a remake. I don't get the low expectations.

Edit: Data available one hour before than expected.

134K For Vita FFX and #5?

So combined with PS3, it's about 318K for one week.

so happy

Same here. Impressive numbers. And if we also count the standalone FFX Vita (22.6k) it rounds up to more than 157k sales, which is among the top 3 Vita opening games right?

And this is even more impressive considering there were shortages on these titles since day 1.

So glad to see this.

So, 318K just for physical copies, right? Maybe if we include digital sales it might have reached 400k.

If you also count Vita FFX (standalone) retail sales are actually almost 340k.

Digital sales in Japan are not as high as in the west, but I think overall the games might have reached ~370k considering both versions.

Ups, sorry for the dp.

now just watch SE spend all the dosh they got from this to fund more mobile games and X-3.

Taiko must be the biggest surprise in terms of what people expected to crater is now really impressing. It'll obviously pass 100k in Week 1. Talk about legs so far! o_O

Here's Taiko Wii U's FW from Famitsu for reference:

15./00. [WIU] Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version! # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.11.21} (¥5.480) - 17.518 / NEW <0-20%>

I said wow.

It's now done over 5 times its FW.

Nah I think people expected this from Taiko even with its abysmal start. Someone said Japanese retailers weren't worried because Taiko was basically guaranteed to sell over time.
