Everything has levelled off a bit. How is the Vita doing in relation to PSP did at this point in it's life?

EDIT: just read that it's tracking the same as the psp did in december 2004

What fun is there in laughing at Vita at this point? The real fun is coming up with positive spins on Vita's performance as if you worked for Sony.

My spins..

- Vita has performed beyond expectations, outselling all Wii and DS units combined!
- Among all systems, the 3DS experienced the largest decrease in sales over the previous week.
- Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf continue to be strong performers for Vita, with both titles continuing to hit sales charts.

Yes, I think it's her...
You're quick in making avatars, I see XD

However, I've read in the other thread IIRC that on January 2nd there's $$$$. And, effectively, seeing what happened in the past, every time week 1 had January 2nd included, there have been a rise compared to the precedent week.

Needs more "momentum"
- Uncharted franchise games released this year sold more than 1 million units combined showing incredible momentum for third person action games
- Xbox 360 continues to sell better than the GameCube on life support*

Over 6 million Kinect devices have been sold to date, showing incredible growth for the Kinect-market. Just Bieber endorses Kinect and said it's his favorite christmas gift this year. Rare studio head Craig Duncan said: "Rare could not be happier with the results of Kinect Sports: Season 2 and Kinect Star Wars is our most anticipated game of the year. Look forward to more incredible Kinect content from Microsoft in the future in Japan and elsewhere!"

3DS has been out for a year.
PSP is making more money per hw unit than 3DS or Vita.
His post was a ridiculous comment.
I thought he was just highlighting the fact that the old hardware outsold the brand spanking new hardware. Not that I know anything about sales data, but that isn't seen as a good sign, is it?

lol that's awesome, you should work at Sony

Seriously though, I read in the comments at Eurogamer's article about this that it might've been better for Sony to launch in the west first, since most launch games is very western centric, while waiting for MH and FF or whatever before launching in Japan. I kind of agree with that. I think western gamers will be perfectly happy with the Vita launch line up so you would probably mostly have heard positive things about it directly after launch compared to now when every sales report gets a negative spin.

It's generally not a good sign, no.

Part of it is down to the continued strength of the PSP. But the people buying a PSP now aren't the sort who tend to buy hardware at launch, so it really says more about the Vita's inability thus far in converting existing PSP owners into Vita owners.

If I remember correctly, yes. I commented on that in last week's thread. Some news that everyone has kind of overlooked...
You remember correctly. Last year it got close, but Wii got past it cause of holiday strong sales

3DS is eating everyone else's lunch.
Is that why the 3DS redesign is rumored to be a thicker 3DS? =)

In such situation Sony's pathetic PR would probably use "Playstation family".
I always wondered why this is being said as a negative thing. I see "Playstation family" as Sony's whole gaming devision, so if that in total does well, why does it matter if they word it like that?

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

Didn't know about the GBA and PS2, but as Exterminieren and Erethian have pointed out, the only time that the DS outsold the DS3 was just before the price cut back in August. Either way I should probably get my ignorant ass out of this thread.

Sony doesn't actually have a gaming division in their breakdowns. They just have Networked Entertainment which includes their PCs, cellphones (with the purchase of Sony Ericsson), tablets, games etc. It's why seeing if SCE is profitable is difficult now.

That is true, but i ment as a statement to all their dedicated gaming products, bundling all those together =)

PS2 is never going to die! Great to see it still ticking over in Japan.

I wonder how long Sony will keep making them? It is still popular here in Poland and I bet it sells well in other countries where people have smaller disposable incomes.

In this case imagine Sony's PR saying something like "Playstation family saw growth of X% over last year." What's the problem? Well in the last year "Playstation Family" had a "baby" that is already contributing to the number.

In other words it's a way of obfuscating what people actually care about.

Er...no, it's because one or several of the devices are doing bad, but alltogether it shows growth, thanks to one device. I have no idea about their Japanese PR, but their NPD PR are always pathetic, not showing numbers and consists of a few sentences.

Sony said:
"PlayStation 3 is off to a phenomenal start to the holiday season, recording the best ever Black Friday sales period in the console's five-year history. According to the November NPD report the PS3 saw a 70% increase in hardware and a 30% increase in software year-over-year," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Direcrtor of Corporate Communications at SCEA.
What about PSP, what about PS2? What about software titles?

Perhaps I've misread - I thought the post-Christmas week was traditionally better for Sony. Maybe it was the first week of the New Year instead.
Week 52. Not week 1.

Interesting that PS3 had very little drop off for 2011 comparing it to 2010.

Can someone have a look at my numbers for the predictions? They differ from MC totals by a fucking 1 unit somewhere (MK7, MH3G, FFXIII-2) and I can't find it.
Code:
		Week 1	Week 2	Week 3	Week 4	Week 5	Totals
3DS Hardware	205962	350321	367691	482200	197952	1604126 (correct)
3DS Mario Land	73907	89743	112533	174566	68483	519232 (correct)
3DS MarioKart7	423619	183834	182418	260836	109463	1160170 (1 unit more than the OP)
3DS MH Tri G	0	521959	208427	155069	100042	985497 (1 unit less than the OP)
PS3 FFXIII-2	0	0	524217	118816	61202	704235 (1 unit less than the OP)
PSV Hardware	0	0	324859	72479	42648	439986 (correct)
Its moot to results but being the last time I want it to be perfect.
You are right in everything (including the 1 unit difference).

Choose whichever value you think it's better, I guess.
