Er...no, it's because one or several of the devices are doing bad, but alltogether it shows growth, thanks to one device. I have no idea about their Japanese PR, but their NPD PR are always pathetic, not showing numbers and consists of a few sentences.

What about PSP, what about PS2? What about software titles?
I see your point. But if their gaming products is profitable as a whole, then i dont see why it matters much if they phrase it like that. But it isnt really to be expected to hear bad things in PR though.

Is the PS2 still shipped and sold in the US by the way?

Because people love to "doom" that's why.

So the NPD and Media-Create threads are redundant, as long as game or console are profitable, that's not the point in sales threads.
What bad things? The PS3 had growth in November and sold pretty good, a lot of people were surprised, but yet Sony PR failed to highlight that with a number, just because they got beat by MS.

Perhaps I've misread - I thought the post-Christmas week was traditionally better for Sony. Maybe it was the first week of the New Year instead.

But it is better for Sony. Drop for each system:

WII | -64%
NDS # | -60%
3DS | -59%

360 | -42%

PSV | -41%
PSP # | -38%
PS3 | -12%
PS2 | 5%

Nintendo average drop: -61%
Sony average drop: -21%

=P

I might explain with numbers, but the more days after the holidays there is, the more it appears better for Sony. This past week was still completely inside the holiday season (ending on Jan. 1st), so Nintendo systems still were benefited largely by that boost, which historically is higher for them.

850k from what we heard last.

The second and third week sales have been good so far and we are yet to know if the game will have legs.

Thanks. Guess the game don't need another shipment. I think it's showing decent legs for a FF game that opened that low. In the end it doesn't really matter, it could've opened at 800k with no legs or at 500k with decent legs.

Is there any way to see whether Japan or the UK was the larger industry this year, in terms of both unit sales and revenue?

Revenue is most likely Japan since the Pound has tanked lately, but they were close on units, last I checked.

I'm wondering this as well. The UK market was in the dumps all year untill the holiday arrived.

How did you come to this conclusion? I only asked why the phrase "Playstation family" (or whatever gaming family it must be) is being seen as a negative thing (i was mostly thinking about PR statements by the way) if it is profitable as a whole. I havnt said a single word, directly or indirectly, that people cant discuss whatever they want about the sales in these sales thread.

With bad things i mean that you wont hear i.e "the PSP sold 50k unit in November, having a 70% drop YOY". That is most likely why they dont mention the PSP sales because there isnt much positive things to be said.

Yes, that could be a reason why they didnt mention the PS3 numbers specifically, but just mentioned the growth instead.

There is no information on the UK market yet.

Can't believe how Wii can do so well one week and just plummet the next. Tis the season, I suppose.

42k for Vita doesn't seem all that surprising to me... kind of expected.

Any chance this hitting 800k LTD?

How much did SE ship FFXIII-2 again?

~850K.

Basically it's going to hit that on super bomba sales, but will be capped there since no one is insane enough to order more.

This will probably also hurt their ability to ship aggressively in the future, since this is primarily getting there because retailers can't return their stock and thus just have to sell it really cheap (and for a loss) in the long run.

What?! You are way overreacting. I don't think you understand what I was trying to say. I was saying: People want NUMBERS, not x family is doing well, otherwise there's nothing to talk about in sales threads! Withouth individuals/Nintendo and MS releasing actual sales data there would be nothing to discuss about in NPD threads.

Holy shit. The YTD is insane with the 3DS outselling the next 3 best-selling systems even with their totals combined.

Additionally, who the hell is buying the PS2 anymore. 80k is still good considering it's been years since it's been the go-to system.

The used game market for the PS2 is gigantic.
You can get a system and a ton of games for dirt cheap, basically.
I STILL hear people saying they're going to be picking up a PS2 soon (in the States).
It really was the console with the best lineup nearly a decade.

80k is actually really low, compared to the rest of the world. There are loads of people buying PS2s worldwide. It's cheap, has PES, FIFA, NBA etc. My friend who isn't really a gamer at all recently talked with me about buying a PS2.

Nintendo fans giving all they have.

TBH I don't think Nintendo fans have to try too hard this week

The percentages might be true, but they obfuscate the reality of the figures. Nintendo are happier than Sony at the moment.

What fun is there in laughing at Vita at this point? The real fun is coming up with positive spins on Vita's performance as if you worked for Sony.

My spins..

- Vita has performed beyond expectations, outselling all Wii and DS units combined!
- Among all systems, the 3DS experienced the largest decrease in sales over the previous week.
- Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf continue to be strong performers for Vita, with both titles continuing to hit sales charts.

They've lost the opportunity to win the holiday period, but if they hit the right figures in the next few weeks, they can still claim they've got decent momentum or that they're on track to do x,y,z... its not a bad launch, they're just not top of the pops. Like the 3DS in the UK, it'll struggle to put games high up the charts until the userbase grows.

I'm not overacting (on what would that be by the way?), but maybe i misunderstood what you ment. I thought you said earlier, that i ment that if the overall sales are profitable, then there is no point in having sales thread. I just wanted to point out that i havnt said anything like that at all. But maybe that wasnt what you ment, so then i misunderstood, sorry.

Sure, i prefer actual numbers instead. If you ment it like that, that it is negative because we dont get any actual numbers instead, then i kinda agree to that, since i prefer actual numbers =)

EDIT for extra lols for the other folks explaining your math failure. You gotta love a launch.

Whoa whoa whoa.

No no, two weeks ago MH 3DS was supposed to sell 300k, fail completely and Capcom needed to appologize to the japanese people and release it on VITA because of honor and other expert things.

Seems off topic with all the talk of Vita, but I'm surprised to see the PS3 down year on year given it had a price cut in 2011.

So, can PS3 make it to 10 million?
Probably eventually, It won't really have any major competition for most of this year so you would expect it to do another million and a half maybe? The problem will be next year and the year after with the WiiU and possible PS4 but since the PS2 is still selling I think even if it is down this year and starts to fade badly when next gen systems hit it will definately make it to that number in the long run.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
How does:

324,859 - Vita launch
72,479 - Vita week 2
42,648 - Vita week 3.

Add up to 402.794?

Famitsu total is till Week 51, Week 52 is excluded. And there's a little difference between the trackers about weekly sales.
