Media Create Sales: Week 52, 2016 (Dec 26 - Jan 01)

GB number is high but it's a system that lasted almost 15 years with GBC resurrection.

DS is the really crazy one.

Some of you guys were saying that Mario Maker 3DS was going to pass FFXV for the third (?) highest selling game during 2016. Did MM end up not exploding as much as predicted or did Final Fantasy avoid completely collapsing (probably due to cheap excess stock)?

Yeah, many don't realize that GBC was essentially just a new revision of the original GB (like New 3DS or DSi) and due to specific market circumstances (lack of competition and Pokémon renaissance) GB lasted a timespan worthy of two generations (launched 1989 and got the successor in 2001).
DS on the other hand was a freaking monster, just need to see the YTD I've posted a few pages ago.

Does it matter?
MM3DS is going to pass FFXV soon.

Except that it hardly matters in the long run who are these some? I hope they don't end up being one or none in the end again.

I remember a lot of us being confused when Nintendo decided to lump GB and GBC sales together in the late 90s. New 3DS and DSi had next to no exclusive retail software, but GBC had several hundred exclusive games. Plenty of systems had smaller total libraries than the GBC exclusive list.

I would have to go back to one of the past threads and check. It's possible that the person(s) making that statement aren't particularly strong at predicting. I haven't been following Japanese sales and game shipments close enough to be able tell the difference when the statement was made. I'm not saying that FFXV is performing better than Mario Maker. It's pretty obvious which one will have the higher LTD.

It was essentially the same product line but revamped with colored games (yeah, I know the hardware was beefed up) more than a true successor.
The same could be said about WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color for instance.

I guess so. There were a few titles that made use of that extra power though.

Does anyone have an idea what portion of the Gameboy's 119M (or even the Japanese total) came from the GBC?

If you are talking about shipment data then I don't think so.
At best we know how many OG Game Boy (and revisions like Pocket, Light) were shipped before the FY the GBC was introduced.

At least 64 million was the original Game Boy, we don't know for sure because Nintendo never separated them.

Indeed

FFXV's holds since launch have been most impressive and now one of the best holds in the top 10. Very unexpected.

Excuses such as 'price drop' which hit most games of its size in similar timeframes are moot imo.

FFXIII's holds in comparison are horrific!

Of course it is good to see, but FFXIII already gained a very high attach rate to ps3 at the time in the first week so the potential for further sales wasn't so great.

So somewhere between 40-50M for the GBC in its short time as the must have Gameboy model. Gameboy Pockets were impulse buy price territory by the time the GBC launched (not that the GBC was all that expensive). I imagine that the monochrome models continued to post decent sales in territories that aren't as fast to transition.

In the next 15 weeks PS4 needs to sell 968.237 - 569.527 = 398.710 so that it doesn't fall behind PS3. There is the last big week of the year (let's say 100k) meaning 300k in 14 weeks or 21.500 average per week after holidays.

That should be doable no?

When I said the minimun I meant the bare, BARE minimum, total shipments of the non Color line could be 10 million higher maybe considerably more.

40M for GBC would leave nearly 79M units for the monochrome GB. Given that shipments exploded in North America post GBC launch, and that Japanese number Chris posted, I think that's a pretty reasonable low end.

50M is probably too high given that the GB line sold 55M total post GBC launch based on your number.

Either way, I'll stop derailing the thread with WW numbers :p

The 3ds panic mode price cut killed any possible tail end sales for the DS, the lack of backwards compatability should give a budget priced 3ds a significant life for at least the next year

Someone is fisico and 15-20% is digital/physical not digital/total.

Yes, based on Famitsu digital estimates.
We should also expect lower than the average value for FFXV.
Like I also said in the previous thread Persona 5 and Tales of Berseria had 13% and 11% digital/physical for the first month for example, FFXV should probably be slightly lower than that.

FFXV had a good hold, but its drop in the coming weeks will be nasty.

Miitopia may not be a big hit after all, wonder how much will it drop next week....

The next few weeks will be very telling on whether Sun and Moon will outsell X/Y in Japan. If it drops like X/Y post-holidays, then probably not. Too bad.

FFXV's legs will also depend on how transparent SE is about the patches' release dates and the DLC. Those are pretty big additions to the game, not to mention the online stuff coming.

Also, how come the number of FFXV bundles aren't included in total sales for FFXV? That's another 60-80k.
