Media Create Sales: Week 6, 2012 (Feb 06 - Feb 12)

Lupin3

Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
Did anyone get Theatrhythm? Any impressions?

Got it! It's not as much fun as I had hoped it would be. Many of the songs are just bad and the three main play styles are too similar. Field and battle are ok, but the cinematic feels kinda stupid.

The game shines though when picking your favorite songs and playing on hard, but I'm not so sure it's a game I'll keep coming back to.

Fun for a while, but overpriced for what you get (imo). Buy if you're a FF fan and like at least some of the music.

Limited edition 3DS were super limited in supply, they won't make a difference at hardware even if they are tracked somehow.

What is FFT's launch context over the week ? 70k first shipment and we know nothing about potential further supplies, right ?

Amazon.jp said they won't get their next shipment til early March. The game was sold out at every single one of the 10 (no kidding) stores I went to today in Osaka.

On that note, saw tons and tons of New Love Plus used copies, as well.

So, we could imagine good start (especially in terms of sell-through percentage) for FFTheatrhym and a so and so start for Love Plus maybe for the bugs we heard about (that could justify the used copies already available)?

Which would also explain the minor boost in hardware sales from Love Plus.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

As explained by others, also to me, the 3DS NLP bundles have been sold only through rifle, so a very, very, very limited quantity.

Well, let's say that a bump of 10K (if true) in this week, with "standard" weekly sales around 70K should be a good boost in HW results, to me.
Maybe not so "LovePlus" motivated, but "FF + LP + (minor) Tekken" based

Any known info on how limited the New Love Plus bundles were? Being sold through a raffle only does not necessarily mean that it was very limited in terms of numbers, it can also depend on the demand (i.e if they expected 50k to want the bundle, and then they only had 25k). I see that the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater bundle is also being sold through raffle, so it would be interesting to know how many units they got :)

If they say it's very limited, I'd say more than 1k but less than 5k.

No I mean due to the bugs not many new customers bought the game and only the people who are already fans of it who already had already bought the 3DS for it in advance and not on its release.

It could be, but it is hard to say for sure . It is afterall relative since "very limited" can be referring to a supply VS demand thing. If the demand is very high, then 10k or even 20k might be defined as being very limited. I have absolutely no idea how high demand there is for a New Love Plus bundle though, that is why it would be nice to get exact numbers :) The same goes for the MGS: Snake Eater bundle. And since it is only sold through Konami's own store, it can be a indication that the stock isnt very big, but it is hard to say for sure.

Is there any reasons why it is only sold through Konami's own store by the way? This way they can make more money, since they cut out the midle man (the stores), but are there any other reasons?

There isn't if. These are the sales from the graph. But maybe there is +/- 1k difference.

Well, so: a bump or +10K in this season with those games (not HUGE sellers) for a console with 70K standard level, IS a good hardware bump

:)

Hehe, didnt think about it before now actually :) Wonder why they used Media Create numbers instead of Enterbrain numbers. Unless they just quote Nintendo's statement which included the MC numbers.

I found free time to look at a Famitsu chart with the first 27 months of PS at the market and it confirms what we already knew.

It had a very slow start. From 1994.12.03 to 1995.01.01 it sold only 260.000 systems.

1995 was the same, 1.373.000 YTD with montly sales diving many times below 100k or even 50k.

1996 was better as it doubled previous YTD (2.699.000) but the turnaround was FFVII as in January and February of 1997 it sold 1 million (8 weeks period).

1 million in 8 weeks, that is fucking incredible considering the rate it was selling before.

Duh. Sorry. I woke up thinking today was Thursday (in Korea). Now I just had the lame realization it's only Wednesday.

I remember not too long ago when the producer of Senran Kagura announced it was reaching 80k units sold. Looks like it will end up selling over 100k. Really unexpected.

It's no surprise either. The PS launched at a high price, it was the new kid on the block and had trouble to compete with the SNES (which still dominated the software charts for quite a while) and the Saturn (which had its fans already and arcade ports, especially VF1&2, secured the #2 spot for them).

But thanks to Namco's arcade titles (which basically were mirror games to the ones by Sega: Tekken<->VF, Ridge Racer<->Daytona) and RE by Capcom PS was gaining on Saturn. And when the N64 released it killed off the SNES and it became very apparent that 3rd party software support wouldn't be there. FFVII showed that SNES franchises would go to PS rather than to N64.

Nintendo made a terrible mistake betting on expensive carts which basically killed 3rd party support that gen. Suddenly PS was the viable SNES successor, an image Sony had already intended to attain with the similar design.
