Media Create Sales: Week 7, 2016 (Feb 15 - Feb 21)

The bigger problem that the system has faced has simply been a dirge of compelling software post 2013. Its had very few big titles, the most recent being MH4U in the west... a year ago with N3DS.

Hey now, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer did decently enough in Europe!

(and still lol at Fire Emblem having the biggest 3DS software first month in the US since Majora's Mask 3D)

3DS might end up having a monster year in Japan if the next few months also brings MHXG. Add Stories and another full release Pokémon game to the mix and it'll make up for the lack of DQ XI, which should give 3DS another decent year next year!

If they release the demo and the first trailer two weeks before the game's launch (lol), and the word of mouth from the demo is good, I can see pre-orders rising sharply by then. Implying that will be stock problems at launch because last time orders from shops won't be on time for producing more units.

If that happens quote me.

If there is demand the game will sell. S-E showed similar treatment to Joker 2 Pro. It came out after 3DS launch, it faced shortage problems for months.but in the end LTD was more than respectable.

...Wait, one moment. On "COMG!" i noted that Zelda TP is on the chart with the limited edition alone.

...So, guess it has more SKUs?

It looks like Konami is doing some kind of relaunch of their 2011 Momotaro Dentetsu game on mobile.

It's having some success, probably won't be a huge earner, but the bigger takeaway is that this seems to be their plan for the brand, which was previously a bit up in the air.

Nintendo was supposed to be doing a game no?

Knack (even if it had a retail release) and DQX were exceptions but still full priced games. These are direct Virtual Console downloads.

In case this happens Famitsu will give the numbers.

Konami dropped the price for an IAP because a TV show had a Momotaro Dentetsu special. They were playing the 2010 game on the Wii.

With Pokemon S&M having a Chinese option, is this an indication that Nintendo is about to seriously push into China? It's a region they're going to have to get into eventually.

Video game giant Nintendo on Friday chopped its full-year net profit forecast in half, saying slowing sales and a recent pick up in the Japanese currency were eating into its bottom line.

The Kyoto-based company said it now expected to eke out a 17 billion yen net profit in the fiscal year through March, down from an earlier 35 billion yen target.

source: http://www.japantoday.com/smartphone/view/business/nintendo-halves-profit-forecast-on-strong-yen

last month JPY: USD ratio was 123:1, didnt know now it's down to 66:1...

(FYI actual ratio is 113:1)

instead of seeking strange reasons why not admitting that sales are bad in the West and only 3DS is doing good into home market?

The first reason they give is slowing sales, so I'm not sure where that reaction is coming from.

Not only today, but yesterday also. The Wii and DS games of Momotaro were beasting on the Rakuten Shopping Mall. They're selling like hotcakes.

when your estimates drop about 50% you can add as a reason your local currency became strong
since last august yen passed from 125 to 113 for a dollar, which is around a 10%

sales dropped, not slowed down, they had a poor winter holidays line-up compared to the past and now they see the consequences

Weak holiday, old system, and I think they were betting on YW doing a bit more than it did. That said, I think if we do see the home console out first... I may know why they are doing it that way in the west at least.

They knew exactly what would happen. They made a calculated move which will hurt their finances this year, or just had no software ready for the whole of the holiday... which will hurt their finances.

What they really needed was to not stop developing big games after just two years. Their big teams made one game then left small teams take over with lower budgets and less appealing projects. They let up their efforts too soon and killed whatever momentum it had. They Vita'd their only successful system.

Now with NX they have to build an install base again from zero with low chances of it ever being as big. They lost a lot of mind share in Western countries since 2013. I think they've so far poorly handled the transition from 3DS to NX, so I don't think it will be the savior we're hoping for.

Thay had a poor winter holidays line-up for both systems in Japan too but somehow they didn't see the consquences.

1mln units less sold than the previous year you call "don't see the consesquences" ?

I'm not sure stockholders were happy to have lost around 15 billion yen...

If you talk for low sales because of poor winter holidays line-up compared to the past stay to the holidays.

That's what I thought consideirng how big of a deal they made. China/Asia is becoming more important and Pokemon would be a great place to start.

If they have a unified platform/OS for both the handheld and console they're going to be fine.

The problem they had with 3DS and Wii U is that they couldn't support both platforms adequately at once with internal resources, so you saw a wave of games for 3DS and then a wave of games for Wii U once Nintendo hit the panic button for both systems.

Platform charts weekly update

PS4
3 debuts this week, one good (AoT), one decent (Setsuna), one meh (SF5); DQB passed SW:Battlefront and now next target is GTAV : west vs. japan
Valkirya Chronicle HD had a huge drop while Minecraft keeps selling and selling and selling... as Rainbow Six:Siege

PSV
3 debuts this week, one could have done better, considering how many times it was postponed (Kan Colle), one did goog (AoT) and another suffered for techical problems (Setsuna); DQB is keeping its "road to 300k" and 67 people forgot to buy Minecraft, so it failed to reach 600k this week.

3DS
Mario & Sonic didn't lose appeal after 4 years, first week is almost similar to London 2012 edition, while SMT4:Final had a similar drop as its predecessor (-81% vs. -85%) and Hyrule Warriors Legends passed another Musou, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 2nd.
Talking about the evergreens, Pokemon ORAS is near to the 3mln milestone and Monster Striker is gonna passing DQM:Terry Wonderland in a couple of weeks.

Wii U
While facing several stock problems, Wii U had two significative events this week: Splatoon became the top seller game for the platform (but MK8 last LTD is from Dec.28) and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash became the 20th title to pass the 100k milestone.

PS3
Just 2 titles charted this week, AoT showed the same sales ratio among other sony platform as DQB did (around 18-19% of total sales), but at least DQB is near to the 100k mark.

XBO
The only reason I mention XBO is because for the first time hw sales went below 3 digits; probably even 3DO took more time to reach such a result.... :D

Does Famitsu or Dengeki still track Wii or DS games? Those Momotaro things are quite popular, that at least could enter in a Top 50.

That's about the same as Gundam Breaker 2, so it would seem they're not continuing to bleed audience unless they have no legs.
