Nice info Vinnk.^^ While it is nice to see that Switch seems to be sold out of their pre-order everywhere, it is still sad to see some store is either close or wanted to move out of this business here.T_T

It had been a damn rough gen huh.T_T

2. The Switch hype reminds me of the time before the Wii. In fact, it was hard to get the one photo I have because there was so much foot traffic and people wanting to look over the game boxes. People are talking about this system, and not just the otaku gamers.

What Wii did at its time was amazing since it was coming after dead GameCube and basically started from zero creating its own market, since DS that was flying at the same time offered a completely different experience. 3DS was riding DS strong last year and started very well until it became obvious there was no appealing software at launch. Wii U had almost nothing, Wii was dead a long time ago and software was absent. Switch has the advantage it's coming after a strong 3DS year and if Nintendo didn't kill Wii U in 2016, despite the resurrection it had with Splatoon, things would be better for initial hype.

Splatoon as a brand is really strong right now. I see Splatoon merchandise everywhere. I think a lot of people who skipped the WiiU might jump for the chance to play it on the Switch. Also many Japanese kids I have talked to think Splatoon 2 will be there at launch. Good thing the pre-orders are sold out or they would be disappointed.

Splatoon 2 is the obvious big system seller this year for Switch but there is a gap of at least 3 months from launch until it comes out. Mario Kart 8 DX and Arms performance will show how well Nintendo has arranged release dates.

Why PS4 numbers below last year? I thought this year releases are more popular and bigger hardware movers. Or something big released on PS4 last year this week
Street Fighter V
Attack on Titan
I'm Setsuna

Even so PS4 is ahead on Famitsu and only 2k lower on Media Create... I will say flat... now wait the storm back next week ;)

Nice having your anecdotal reports back, Vinnk! Unbelievable that it was 2008 when you stopped doing them, I remember reading them like it was yesterday. Glad that the Famicom Dojo is still running. ^^

They will supplement Switch sales with Splatoon 2 Globaltestfires

Kingdom Hearts just dropped off the face of Japan. How is it not there anymore?

Some really solid legs for FFXV. It just keeps selling.

Dengeki says first week shipment for For Honor was of 50.000 units with 75% sellthrough.

Not much else interesting this week, though so far the YTD difference between 3DS and PS4 software is just above 100k in favor of the 3DS, PS4 will probably surpass it next week, even if it'll be short lived.

Anything to share about the perception of the Switch's price?

A lot of the kids I talk to think it's expensive. But I think they are mainly comparing it to the 3DS. My few acquaintances in my town who identify as "gamers" are mostly thinking the price is about what they expected. Despite those articles in Famitsu where they interview devs who said they couldn't believe how cheap it was, I have yet to find a single person who thinks 30,000yen (more like 32,500 after tax) is surprisingly cheap.

On the other hand among my friends who are non-gamers, they are less critical about the price. I guess the reasoning is: It's the new system so it should cost the same as the other systems (PS4 and X1). If you don't know anything about specs (like 90% of the world), why wouldn't it cost the same?

Some milestones (according to Dengeki)
Nioh and Gravity Rush 2 just hit 100K.
02./02. [PS4] Nioh (Koei Tecmo) {2017.02.09} - 25,703 / 101,190
24./11. [PS4] Gravity Rush 2 (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2017.01.19} - 2,183 / 100,714

RE7 & Momotaro hit 300K (RE7 hasn't even hit this in the other 2 trackers yet).
05./04. [PS4] Resident Evil 7: biohazard (Capcom) {2017.01.26} - 9,200 / 304,240
19./15. [3DS] Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon!! (Nintendo) {2016.12.22} - 2,683 / 301,091

DQ8 also is back on the charts again:
48./61. [3DS] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Square Enix) {2015.08.27} - 944 / 936,689

Kingdom Hearts just dropped off the face of Japan. How is it not there anymore?

27./17. [PS4] Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue (Square Enix) {2017.01.12} - 1,972 / 175,551
It's still there on Dengeki. Considering there's only really 2-4 hrs of new content, it's doing fine as a set of ports/remasters.

Splatoon 2 is the obvious big system seller this year for Switch but there is a gap of at least 3 months from launch until it comes out. Mario Kart 8 DX and Arms performance will show how well Nintendo has arranged release dates.

Not expecting much from ARMS in Japan, but hopefully I'm wrong.
Ideally splatoon would be June, but I can see July or even august. But once it hits...

edit:
I see MH Stories is still hanging on at the bottom. But I assume there's a lot of pricecuts. I really expected a switch port of that game. And who knows if it will even get localized

Pretty good numbers, Resident Evil's continued Japanese flopping is sad to see....
inb4 it's not a flop

Witch and the Hundred Bombas though. That's not good. NIS needs to hope that more people buy it in the coming days.....

NIS needs to look at Fire Emblem Awakening and make their franchises more appealing to casuals. Collaborations or something would be cool too.

I guess word of mouth could help Hundred Knight 2; I mean, that helped the first one (And even Coven, since in a way it's a spinoff of TwatHK).

But, on the other hand, the games looks too similar to the first one. The first one wasn't a good one, so I'd imagine anyone who played it wouldn't want a sequel.

But hey, congrats for Nier. Seems like a solid start

Nintendo Switch will now have 20 (not a typo) launch titles in Japan. 12 being eShop only.

Switch is already having a better lineup of Arcade Archives Neo Geo titles at launch compared to PS4. I'm jelly.

Lol Witch & The Hundred Knight. Genuinely keep forgetting that it's already out in Japan.

I'm not surprised, feedback to the original wasn't exactly positive.

Didn't it have the most market share this week?

Also good to see nioh has hit a million. Maybe KT weren't so dumb after all.
Yeah, 149k for PS4 software and 112k for 3DS software. Thats what i like the most about Dengeki, that they give total software sales for each platform weekly.

It's really no wonder NISA is being so "aggressive" lately (as seen with last week's press event). NIS would be in quite the state if not for NISA.

That's no surprise: developers have had the opportunity not just to see, but work with the Switch. So they know pretty well what it's made of, what it can do, etc. Completely different point of view than a consumer's.
