good start for God eater on Vita, and good bump for it too!
I was expecting better for PS4, on the other side.
Zelda seems to hold pretty decently and 3DS too.

Quoting from last thread.
By the way, I expected the PS4 numbers to be better since the reports that PS4 version was selling better than the expected. Expectations must have been very low, so.

It still leaves that hanging question of what happens for a hypothetical God Eater 3 in a post-Vita world. I'm not sure they could transition to PS4, which was probably the plan.

So, even though some gamers migrated from PSP to PSV, this God Eater expansion sees a huge decrease with respect to the vanilla one.

God Eater Burst FW / God Eater FW = 96%
God Eater 2 Rage Burst (PSP+PS4) FW / God Eater 2 (PSP+PSV) = 67%

Data: Famitsu

Considering how hunting games's success is quite based on local multiplayer, I don't think Namco ever thought that PS4 would have been the next only destination for the franchise. Maybe they thought it would've given a better contribution (at least right now), but not the next only house for the series.

I think that transition would be more difficult in some ways. It might even make more sense to gut the team and make new mobile properties.

It would.

But tbh I don't see Vita going anywhere anytime soon. Monster Hunting games have always been suited to portable systems and so a GE3 would still do well on PS Vita even a few years from now.

I don't think PS4 owners would buy it in droves even if the install base was much higher.

I don't think the PS4 version would ever do as well as a handheld version in Japan but it should sell better in the west. The question is whether Western sales would make up for the loss of Japanese sales and such a stark difference probably suggests it wouldn't.

I'd say next Nintendo handheld is a bigger possibility than mobile for the main God Eater series, considering the kind of audience it attracts and the gameplay (which can't be translated well at all on mobile, without big compromises). That or they can the series to get the team to do other games for mobile/other consoles(as said by Oregano), but I don't see why they would come to that conclusion, given that it's a pretty good / great series, sales wise.

Why am I not surprised of you doing this comparison.

- God Eater was a new IP ( FW is not representative of the final LTD )
- God Eater Burst was also sold as an expansion disc for a much cheaper price.

Rage Burst would only have to sell 193k (- PSN downloads) more to reach the same LTD as God Eater Burst. And that's with a full priced release only, no cheap expansion disc this time.

Considering that God Eater 2 already was on Vita prior to this makes the difference between the Vita version and the PS4 version even more striking, seeing as it's the series first outing on that system. But looking at the Japanese market situation, this was pretty much what I expected.

Dead or Alive 5 is a lot more indicative of the generational change as we are not dealing with handhelds here. Considering that the PS3 already had 2 versions of the game prior to this and that the game is on PS4 for the first time, I would have expected the difference between them to be bigger.

It would.

But tbh I don't see Vita going anywhere anytime soon. Monster Hunting games have always been suited to portable systems and so a GE3 would still do well on PS Vita even a few years from now.

I don't think PS4 owners would buy it in droves even if the install base was much higher.

Ehh, I don't think Vita is dying any time soon but we're talking at the very least around two years down the line(being charitable). I don't fancy Vita's chances that far out.

Microsoft will save the home console market in Japan confirmed.

Especially when you consider that the PS4 sold 25k this week but last year it was 310k. Now that's an almost 100% decrease.

So the PS4 is down -91% YOY whilst the Xbox One is up 623% compared to last week.

Now I don't know about you but it's clear the Xbox One is poised to be the best selling console in Japan of all time.

If Sony exit from handheld market, I hope all the 3rd parties games on Vita would move to Nintendo next handheld. Including those sub 10k visual novel games that I have no interest in but would still like to see them surviving in this current market climate.

Agreed. But I still don't see God Eater ever moving solely to a home console. It's always better suited to a portable experience whether that be on Vita, 3DS or Mobile.

My point was more that the PS4 version was never going to be a big seller anyway, even if the install base was massive.

Not surprised with the sales numbers for the PS4 vs Vita versions of GE2:RB. Considering how many users were already on the Vita its no wonder why the numbers are higher. And the title since its not something "brand new" there is no reason for those fans to have gone out and upgraded just for that game alone. Now if it was GE3 it would have been a more fair situation to compare sales between the two.

The next test will be Toukiden Kiwami for PS4, chances are that it will bomb terribly.

So the question is, by putting God Eater 2 Rage Burst on PS4/Vita instead of PSP/Vita, did Bandai Namco just flush 150k worth of sales down the toilet?

It depends though as its not like the Vita is really rampant in the West so with that in mind there still is a good number of folks who have not played the game but would have been curious about it.

Will be interesting to see how the PS4 version does in the West due to this. As any increase in numbers most def will be from that group of consumers out there.

That's unlikely.

Rage Burst is an expansion. It was never going to do the same numbers as the original release. The GE2:RB Vita number being so close to GE2 Vita means that there are plenty of psp owners that now have bought the game on Vita.

Also Toukiden Kiwami bombed badly on PSP. There's little audience left on the system.

Personally Id like to say not really, since am sure they saw it as an investment to get the team familiar with working with the PS4. Therefore with a GE3 for example would be PSV / PS4 again and should even things out more.

It would have been a waste experience wise for the team to work on a PSP version. This by far in the long run will have been the better decision.

They most def would have expected this with numbers as they know how many people have the PSV version, but at the same time it does help build the brand with the PS4 only userbase even if small its still getting the foothold that counts.

Owners of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate on PS3/360 can upgrade to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round for free (albeit without the new characters), so there's less reason to purchase the physical version.

That will bomb in Japan..... and most likely in the west as well unfortunately.

I've pre ordered for PS4 version so at least they'll sell 1 copy.

So far Toukiden has sold 470k in Japan & Asia whilst Kiwami has sold 200k in Japan and Asia. As it's an expansion game I wasn't expecting it to match first game sales but it could have done a bit better I think.

Not at all. Using other PSP games as an example (Toukiden Kiwami being one) the PSP versions of PS Vita games these days are not selling anything noteworthy

Will Vita be around by the time God Eater 3 comes out? If not will a PS4 only release make sense?

Or the most important question: Does it actually make sense to build the brand with the PS4 only userbase?

If they're planning on doing a western release it makes complete sense. *Crosses fingers*
