Vita isn't HD either, that didn't stop it from getting HD Remasters though. Often running subnative even (MGS, GOW).

And 4DS might be sooner than we think. December in Japan wouldn't surprise me terribly.
Eh, I say holiday 2016. Nintendo will want to take their time and make sure good games launch with the system to avoid another 3DS situation.

In Japan? 3DS is going to be the best selling system ever after DS and GB. Better selling than every single PlayStation. Another 3DS situation is something a hardware maker should want there.

I think they're closer than most expect and really Japan needs new hardware asap anyway. Dec 2015 Japan, spring 2016 in the west would make some sense.

Note 2: It's incomplete, I'll complete it later.

can you add the actual first week sales too so we know what sales to expect from these points?

but last week you said "2014 is the last year for growth sales for Vita"

is not that a forecast after 2 month?

"I haven't forecasted anything unexpected" ;)

That was the key point of my earlier talk. Right now, we can expect Nintendo to pull another rabbit out of hat and reverse or mitigate the absolutely normal decline a platform would experience in its 5th year. As they announced MH3G+MH4 in September 2011, out of nowhere; as they released Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which went to sell +4.5m when no one was expecting this (remember that the first shipment should have been around 200k!); as they announced 3DS XL + New Super Mario Bros. 2 or New 3DS / New 3DS XL, out of nowhere. As, for example, they created hw-driving games such as Super Smash Bros. (who would have thought it might have sold close to 2.5m?) or unexpected hits such as Luigi's Mansion 2. As, again, they host one of the most successful IPs of recent times (Yo-kai Watch). It's not weird to expect something on those lines, for example an only-amiibo game, or a game compatible with amiibo cards.

I'm not saying it will happen for sure, but there's a possibility. On the other hand, nothing on PSV had the same effect on hw sales (price cut, hw revision, PSPGo, exclusive games), and nothing seems to point out that PSV would not decrease this year. Of course, an exclusive MH game might still happen, but the likelihood of this occuring is still, in my opinion, way below the likelihood of an amiibo YW which might drive hw sales and sustain sw ecosystem.

He means how the launch went, although in retrospect the 3DS actually did pretty decently for a system with such a horrible lineup for so long.

I think a possibility is that the next Nintendo handheld will play Wii U games in some form. After all, we know that Japan loves handheld platforms, and even if they are old games, people would line to buy a 4DS with Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Pikmin 3. So Nintendo might buy some time by "cheaply" port some Wii U games on the new handheld, along with some third party support.

3DS launch was impacted by the earthquake which slowed sales and delayed key software in the launch year. I don't think the day one lineup was especially bad though in terms of Japanese support compared to most launches (Layton, SF, RR, PES, etc). Vita was better but look how much that mattered.

Day-one line-up was ok, though perhaps not fitting the high hw price (the main games -Nintendogs, Layton- were more apt to a casual audience, that typically doesn't buy at the launch if the price point is not low enough), but yes, many games saw a delay when they should have been released in the weeks after the launch: One Piece, Dead or Alive, Tales of the Abyss, SD Gundam.

I meant the beginning when they cut the price due to bad sales.

Are we really going back to the old "debate" of Capcom making MonHun a Sony exclusive once again, with the same answers?

It's annoying that whenever Monster Hunter comes up, you are forced to hear about the devine powers of the PlayStation quadrouple and how it's blessed midas touch makes every single game sell even better than console X .
What are the chances Nintendo moneyhats Capcom to get MH5 ready for 4DS launch?

Launch is unlikely, something similar to what happened with the 3DS (upgraded version first+ new mainline game later) seems possible.

I can't see any of the big hitters (MH or DQ for example) being proper launch titles. I mean, even Nintendo/Poemon Company avoid to do that. Such big hitter need by definition a good install base.
Build a proper install base with spinoff- "G" versions, "Remakes", "Remasters" is another thing.

Maybe just L5 with Yokai Watch 3.5 could be a 4DS launch game imho.

This has gotta be the biggest revisionist history ever. Sure the 3DS price was a huge mistake but not having any relevant software from launch till Christmas was definitely the reason why 3DS wasn't selling. It wasn't until the trinity came that 3DS consolidated its status on the market.

The price cut led to a huge spike in sales: more than 200k 3DS were sold that week, with only Super Pokémon Rumble as a new game. After that (and before Super Mario 3D Land), 3DS had a better weekly average then pre-price cut period. Advertisement helped sure.

Anyway, there were relevant games released during the first months in the market: launch games (Nintendogs at +600k, Layton 5 at +400k, Samurai Warriors Chronicles, Street Fighter IV and Ridge Racer all over 100k), Pilotwings Resort (+100k), Dead or Alive (60k), One Piece (+300k), Ocarina of Time 3D (+600k), Tales of the Abyss (150k), Star Fox 64 (100k), Devil Survivor Overclocked (50k), Senran Kagura (90k), Pokémon Rumble (340k), Rocket SLime 3 (100k). That seems a pretty average line-up for an hardware that was launched in February.

26./08. [3DS] Devil Survivor 2: Break Record (Atlus) {2015.01.29} - 3.544 / 63.424 (-63%)
36./26. [3DS] Devil Survivor 2: Break Record (Atlus) {2015.01.29} - 1.767 / 65.191 (-50%)

DS2 BR has pretty bad legs, I guess it's where the anime was supposed to help but Atlus screwed up somewhere at some point.
Still the game should sell its first shipment (~70k) and maybe an additional few thousands copies.

A DS3 by the end of the year could sell in the 100-120k range.

Regarding terrible legs, let's not forget our new champion

01./00. [PS3] Tales of Zestiria (NAMCO BANDAI Games) {2015.01.22} - 328.944 / NEW <85%>
03./01. [PS3] Tales of Zestiria (NAMCO BANDAI Games) {2015.01.22} - 32.744 / 361.688 (-90%)
09./03. [PS3] Tales of Zestiria (NAMCO BANDAI Games) {2015.01.22} - 8.861 / 370.549 (-73%)
25./09. [PS3] Tales of Zestiria (NAMCO BANDAI Games) {2015.01.22} - 3.658 / 374.207 (-59%)
34./25. [PS3] Tales of Zestiria (NAMCO BANDAI Games) {2015.01.22} - 1.774 / 375.981 (-52%)

Shipment seems to be around 385-390k, so no bomba bin I guess, at least they succeeded in shipping the perfect number of copies to retaillers !

Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 114 - 2,209,602 / 2,567,220 -357,618
week 115 - 2,216,267 / 2,589,225 -372,958
week 116 - 2,221,613 / 2,619,603 -397,990
worst gap since week 106 (-408k), actually GC is approaching winter holidays 2003 so probably even Xenoblade bundle can't save the situation

PS4 vs. Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 52 - 1,049,426 / 1,200,339 / 1,545,681
week 53 - 1,072,636 / 1,247,112 / 1,564,954
I'd dare to say the numbers speak for themselves

This has gotta be the biggest revisionist history ever. Sure the 3DS price was a huge mistake but not having any relevant software from launch till Christmas was definitely the reason why 3DS wasn't selling. It wasn't until the trinity came that 3DS consolidated its status on the market.
Nope, sales sustainably jumped immediately with the price cut. In Japan especially the lack of compelling software to go along with the sudden hardware rise was seen as a major missed opportunity for publishers. It's one of the main reasons Senran Kagura took off in the beginning.

The WiiU badly needs a pricecut on its "regular" models in Japan. Don't think they need to cut the Xenoblade bundle though, but the recent bundles were so disappointing there.

The Blog is teasing something regarding Dragon Quest Heroes but I don't get it... -.-

Edit: Puzzle Sold thanks to mao2

- Dragon
- Quest
- Heroes
- Total (あわせて)
- 100.000 (10万) x5
- Shipment

500k shipment

Why am I not surprised of you doing this comparison.

- God Eater was a new IP ( FW is not representative of the final LTD )
- God Eater Burst was also sold as an expansion disc for a much cheaper price.

Rage Burst would only have to sell 193k (- PSN downloads) more to reach the same LTD as God Eater Burst. And that's with a full priced release only, no cheap expansion disc this time.

Sorry, I just read your post.

God Eater Burst had two SKUs, indeed. Do we know how the Append Edition sold? The numbers I reported do not display the sales ratio. Since they were two different SKUs, they should have been both present in the chart, but probably both trackers decided to count them together (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412035).

Anyway, GE fanbase does not seem one that would not buy an expansion because it costs too much.

- Dragon
- Quest
- Heroes
- In total/at the same time (あわせて)
- 100.000 (10万)
- Shipment

100k is too low, and if we add a 0 => 1 million is too much.

It was easy to get Majora's Mask FW sales, but this is hard.
Which blog? Link please.

1m shipment might not be too much if we're expecting 600-700k FW sales.

Out of stock first week confirmed.

Tomorrow he will share the sell through, so it will be very easy to figure out first day sales.

Btw, a second shipment should be expected for the weekend. First shipment doesn't mean the only shipment for the week.

They're expecting over a million for MH4U on 3DS. They would be expecting massive growth on the PS4.
I see. I dont think that they would expect such a massive growth on the PS4 though.

I'm talking about a possible Mario edition of Minecraft. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo won't let Microsoft get anywhere close their precious IP.
Oh, like that. I'm not sure if that would be a problem.

Why?

Capcom stated AAA home console projects should aim at 2m units worldwide at least. And note that MH is not only an extremely profitable IPs, but it also covers a lot of other investments (as was clear by the fact that Capcom always mentions it in financial statement).

I dont think that Capcom would expect Monster Hunter 5 to sell 5+ million on PS3/PS4 based on how some previous games have sold.

Then why should Capcom throw money in the bin when elsewhere it can get 4-5m and huge margins?
Sorry, i dont quite understand the question. I dont think that Capcom will make Monster Hunter 5 because they think that it wont be more profitable there. Other games, like Resident Evil 7, then they most likely think that PS4 and Xbox One will be a better fit.

EDIT: Make Monster Hunter 5 for the PS4 that is. I was only answering to what was said about MH5 =)

Monster Hunter 5 should be on a portable for Japan's sake.

A story based "Monster Hunter World" or something that focuses on singleplayer (but might still have multiplayer) could be on PS4 (and maybe other consoles)

If Capcom wants to see any success around a hypothetical HD Monster Hunter it needs to be designed around Online Multiplayer. Not story, not singleplayer not anything else.
