One Piece will be a million saler in 2 weeks? or 3?
amazing boost for PS3 hardware
but Vita is falling apart...

Well, a certain amount should be sold thanks to bundle, but I don't think they'll be more than 5k.

isn't the MGS fanbase known to have collector tendencies? I think that in spite of the crappy port or product, this will reach at least 50k when all is said and done. Specially because this is one of the more cherished entries in the series.

how many people bought OoT 3D for the Nostalgia? I think there are a quite a few who just wanted to own it because it's a game gthey hold dear in their hearts, more than the need to actually play it for the Nth time.

I think MGS 3D has the potential to pull off something similar.

Not actually that important
Wirh the fact konami have done everthing they can to sabotage the game i'd say 50k would be good, i doubt it'll open with half that though

If we would have to take that into consideration than I'd say even 30k would be really good, considering the low numbers the HD collections pulled. But while I'm sure the HD releases will have a considerable impact I also think that'll be more of a problem in the west than in handheld land where there's a lot more "core" gamers on this kind of gaming platforms without necessarily crossing the streams with PS3 owners. Given that is my opinion, I'd say 45/50k would be good (while nothing to write hone about for Kojipro). I doubt the bundle'll make any considerable difference in sales (4/5k?), but I think especially Resi:R, MonHun (core+casual), all the 2D fighters, have prepped up a fair ground were MGS could pull decent numbers and every good "mature" action game could find some kind of success (in *JAPAN*).

Extremely optimistic outlook:
Week 01 - 655k
Week 02 - 805k (+150k)
Week 03 - 885k (+80k)
Week 04 - 930k (+45k)
Week 05 - 950k (+20k)
Week 06 - 960k (+10k)
Week 07 - 965k (+5k)
Week 08 - 967k (+2k)
Week 09 - 969k (+2k)
Week 10 - 971k (+2k)
Week 11 - 973k (+2k)
Week 12 - 975k (+2k)
Week 13 - 977k (+2k)
Week 14 - 979k (+2k)
Week 15 - 981k (+2k)

Doesn't look likely to pass a million because by the 5th or 6th week, there will be enough used copies in the distribution channel for retailers to not order anymore new copies. High front loaded sales also mean that people who buy the game in the first week are likely to have finished the game by the second and third week, and there will be enough people selling off their copies when they have no use for them.

The problem is that most of those people you mention already bought the HD Collection last year for the exact same reasons. They are even less likely to triple-dip again when MGS3D costs even more than the HD Collection in Japan.

I don't know. I haven't been following the MGS series that closely throughout the years but some fanbases are just rabid. Many friends of mine have lost count of how many times they bought ocarina of time in its different forms. The day it came out for 3DS, it was a no brainer for them and they played and rushed through it doing everything by heart for the 100th time. And I am sure that if Nintendo pulled a "Oot HD on Wii-U! revive the adventure, now on high definition!" by releasing a straigh port from the N64 game they'd still buy it. Whether or not the MGS fanbase thinks or works like that, I can't say but it's definitely possible.

I think MGS3D is different from the HD compilation and a more attractive proposal because it has never been on a handheld (presented like this, at least), MGS rarely appears in nintendo consoles, current 3DS users might just be in the process increasing their collection of games and some of them might think "why not" and buy it. Diehard MGS followers may feel attracted to the oddity of the release, at least more than a HD straight port from a PS2 game which will only look better but play the same.

We'll see, I guess.

We could do a weekly comparison with Samurai Warriors. It is the best example possible.

Code:
               One Piece Musou Samurai Warriors

1st week --- 655,774 / 655,774 620,893 / 620,893
2nd week --- 183,847 / 804,740
3rd week --- 78,164 / 882,904
4th week --- 41,420 / 924,324
5th week --- 25,290 / 949,614
6th week --- 16,767 / 966,381
7th week --- 10,591 / 976,972
8th week --- 6,686 / 983,658
9th week --- 3,987 / 987,645

I don't think it's very comparable when you consider the changing landscape of game retail in Japan.

I personally am pessimistic about One Pice: Musou Battle reaching the million mark though I would really like it to. If I take a look at Samurai Warriors numbers I find very hard to match its second (-70%) and third week (-57%).

PS3 games tend to have virtually no legs, the only hope I see is the brand One Piece and especially that it had a 3X multiplier over its first day sales. That's very uncommon.

I guess we will have to wait until next week to clear up any doubts, I could totally see a 90% drop :p

Yeah, given the huge drops of other great debuting PS3 games recently (well, mainly just Tales of Xillia), I wouldn't be surprised to if One Piece Pirate Warriors also saw something similar.

Ok didnt catch that though i suppose that doesnt leave an upper limit so i'd guess with the numbers it pulled for the week it did a lot more day 1

Yeah I think so too. Ultimately, it also doesn't matter because first day sales figures don't ever seem to be as accurate in terms of tracking, probably due to the shorter time window. So they generally feel more like an estimate.

Yes, it probably would've launched less, but the reasoning for the higher initial price is more psychological. A $250 Vita 6 months after launch with it launching at $350 could seem like a pretty good deal compared to a $250 Vita 6 months after launch at the launch price. Price it too high to start off with and then lower the price a few months in to make it seem like a better deal. Sort of like those "50% off!" sales, where no one in their right mind would've bought it at the full price, in any case.

I don't think that was Nintendo's intention with 3DS, but it worked out that way. The price drop to $170 made it seem like it was a good deal, even though it probably should've been that at launch. A $250 Vita price reduced from $350 seems like a better deal, in that case. :)
Sure, it would probably have some psychological effect indeed. But i wonder how long effect it would have. The price difference between the 3DS and the Vita would still be 10k yen (on a side-note on this, i wish that Nintendo didnt drop the price yet since i would like to see how the sales would be of both systems when they both had the exact same price).

Harvest Moon beat Tales by 1k, so close. How does Land of Origin compare to other entries in the series using Famitsu data? Is it still the best opening for a HM game?

Media Create Sales: Week 9, 2012 (Feb 27 - Mar 04)

Now that I realize, PlayStation 2 was released on March 4th 2000. 12 years later the mighty Sony beast is still charting in the Media Create charts.

Garaph is being wonky at the moment, but from what I remember the best debut for a HM game was in the 60k region, so Land of Origin is definitely the best debut for the series.

Speaking of Garaph has it been said when it's going to be updated with Vita hardware data? I love the "in terms of" generator.

Edit: I see some of them have been updated, but not the "in terms of" tool yet.

I think you are extremely arrogant. I'd thank you if you'd please refrain from quoting me in the future (post #507) if this is your idea of exchange opinions in a forum.

You took that the wrong way. It was clearly meant that not being a part of the fanbase excludes you from speculation of what the fanbase would be interested in.

While MGS3D supposedly isn't completely trash the game was unveiled as something many were legitimately interested in, but then was shown off as something that appeared considerably worse than the PS2 version. The game's attractiveness is that it was a re-release of a classic, but then Konami announced the HD Collection so its appeal is now only to those who want a portable version. But wait, the HD Collection has also been announced for Vita which makes it a considerably better value for money situation. We're starting to get into niches of niches who are either Nintendo-only (which is questionable since MGS3D is the first legit KojiPro MGS title on Nintendo hardware so where's that appeal coming from) or the hardcore Metal Gear fans who want to experience the differences and additions.

I know that because I'm a pretty big Metal Gear fan, and was going to buy 3D until Konami tried their hardest to make sure I could get a better value somewhere else.

If memory serves me right, Evangelion ones did quite good...

There aren't many sales numbers for that period but the existance of so many pachislot games means there was a respectable amount of people who bought them.
