Media Create Sales: Week 9, 2017 (Feb 27 - Mar 05)

Looks like a great start for Switch. And Zelda at #1? I thought the consensus in last week's MC thread was that Horizon would edge out Zelda to take the top spot. Clearly didn't happen. Regardless, good numbers all around! Next several weeks will be interesting to see how Switch performs post launch. Really need to pick up Horizon after I finish Zelda too.

We read too much into individual retailers rankings.

No one really said HZD would outsell Zelda, just that the meltdowns would be funny if such a thing happened in Japan of all places.

IIRC the PS4 sales were 20K first week 45K LTD- the idea that it was going to do well at launch on a system with 330K total owners is insane.

It's not about the total install base for such niche titles.

Well, it also appears that Disgaea is a IP at the end of its life time in Japan.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Well, that's my point- the PS4 numbers show the series is losing its appeal and unless you thought the portable nature was going to revitalize interest its nuts to expect anything significant from an old title launching with a system.

You're right, you have to consider that niche games buyers had no interest in buying a Switch at launch.
Of course the userbase counts, if you don't have the audience...

It wouldn't be too difficult to map MHX touch screen functions buttons onto a Switch pro controller/two joycons.

- can be kick/special action/DB spin2win
ZL can be Hunter Art 1
ZR can be Hunter Art 2
ZL + ZR can be Hunter Art 3
Left analog click can be Target Lock/cycle Target Lock
D-buttons and Right analog click can be whatever

Plus, in portable mode, you can still have custom touchscreen widgets, like Frontier on Vita. It'll just be on one screen.

Another Konami IP ressurected by Nintendo. Next step : Castlevania.

I know we're never going to get another Metroidvania, but I want another Metroidvania. Even though it doesn't sell in Japan.

I'll settle for Goemon by Good-Feel.

Zelda barely selling half the sold hardware, Dragon Quest selling less than expensive 1991 arcade game, and the 3DS still selling with in its current trajectory.

This things dropping below 220k next week or more isn't it?

Give me Classicvania first Mrgrgr.

If Konami released a new Castlevania on the fable 1999 time should be able to do really well.^^

Goemon is also great choice there.^^ But considering Goemon gameplay, i can see Contra doing really well with four player co-op lol.^^

Castlevania pachinko port on the eShop. HD Rumble for the super totally awesome Erotic Violence™.
Onahole shaped Joycon grip when?

Yeah, thestopsign is right. I think the retailer rankings was what was leading me(and maybe others) to think that Horizon could edge out Zelda. Clearly not a good indicator.
I got the impression that the high preorder totals were from people really wanting that Limited Edition, and the actual FW was going to be in the 100-150k range. I was surprised Horizon sold what it did - didn't think it'd do half that total.

Wow....I'm impressed by 2B's week 1 compared to BotW.

A game on 4 million userbase vs a game on 300k userbase. Are you serious?

Well it's pretty bad for both Disgaea and Setsuna but I was expecting even worse.

The low sellthrough will make them long seller though not for good reasons.

Setsuna is a pretty old game in Japan at this point, and unlike us they already had a portable installment with the Vita version.

Just map hunter arts to the left joycon buttons or Switch Pro Controller D-Pad.
L-button would be target
You don't even need to use ZR and ZL (or map kick to one of them).

Hopefully Disgaea does better in the West as it's looking pretty dead as a series. I guess it was too optimistic to think introducing it to a new audience would help.

Of course, but it kinda falls in the "why bother" category on a sales point of view.

Real reason is probably that for their next project Tokyo RPG Factory is going PS4/Switch and Setsuna on the latest is just them getting familiar with the hardware.

I think I Am Setsuna and Disgaea 5 should have been mid-late March releases. Give people a couple of weeks to finish Zelda.

I think if there are timely demos added to the eShop it might help their legs, slightly.

Dragon Quest Heroes now has a demo online, which should help entice those finishing up with Zelda to perhaps make the purchase, or those that are just trying out 1-2-Switch, and aren't particularly fans of Zelda, to try something different.

I can't understand that low Zelda ratio. I was expecting ~80%. I know how TP did on Wii, but that had Wii Sports. I'm really surprised.

Those Assasin's Creed games must've double their LTDs since the sale started.

Also this is week 103 of Minecraft Vita on Famitsu, if the Switch launch didn't knock it off it won't leave soon, next week it matches Pokémon Red / Green 104 week run to match the longest uninterrupted run on Famitsu top 30.

What was the final total for Disgaea 5 on PS4?

Also, how did that game do in the US relative to D3 or D4? I haven't liked the later games as much as I did the first, but it would be a shame to see the series die.

d4 ps3 = d3 ps3 > d5 > dd2 > d3 ps vita > d4 ps vita

d5c should do well in the us.

I think I Am Setsuna and Disgaea 5 should have been mid-late March releases. Give people a couple of weeks to finish Zelda.

It wouldn't make any difference. It's not that there are other releases until then. Those who want to buy them next weeks will buy it.

Yeah considering the usual ratio, Horizon must be in the 10-15k range, it means the AC games are above that which is quite something.

It won't be the case.
Yeah I didn't think about it that much before talking about it with a friend.
I was too busy trying to receive my ghost Switch.

I guess it's probably just "one more game" for the Switch and will play its rôle little by little.
Being released at launch is actually good so people can try it more and more and talk about it. I saw a few Japanese users say that they tried the series for the first time on Switch and are enjoying the game a lot.

You're right, you have to consider that niche games buyers had no interest in buying a Switch at launch.
Of course the userbase counts, if you don't have the audience...

The audience also disappeared on the PS4.

So either the audience is still on the PS3 or people moved away from the IP somewhen between the move from PS3/VITA over to PS4/Switch.

Pretty decent start for the Switch and nice spread of software sales. Zelda isn't as big a deal as in the West so I didn't expect some 80%+ tie ratio. What I'm worried about is the anemic lineup for the coming months. Sales are likely to slow down drastically until at least Splatoon 2.

Seems that even in Japan digital can give far longer legs to some titles. If I remember right BF4 also almost doubled its LTD when it had major discounts in PSN.
