Media Create Sales: Week 9, 2017 (Feb 27 - Mar 05)

i don't know what dark hero days did in relation to the rest. this is just north america.

probably the only two in the series that were disappointing were d4 ps vita, especially considering how d3 did on vita, and dd2 compared to the expectations of a direct sequel to disgaea 1.

Was Disgaea 4 Vita significantly lower then? Assumed it hadn't done that badly since it was just one ranking below Disgaea 3 Vita. Interestingly did better in Japan, at least opening week (probably will get a similar LTD with the budget re-release).

DD2 came too late in PS3's life imo.

Can't wait to know which title between Nobunaga Switch and Yakuza 1&2 HD Wii U sold less than the other.
Probably Yakuza

Since Yakuza sold something around 1k at launch, that'd be quite the feat if Nobunaga did worse.

Less than 1.878 following Dengeki but we never got the exact number :p (5.5K LTD as of December 2013 according to MC top 1000 though)
Nobunaga is less than 2.728 so it will be a close one!

I took a look at Famitsu's report

"Nintendo Switch sold 331.000 units and had a good start.

Nintendo Switch finally launched and sold 331.000, leading the hardware market. Many stores sold out shortly after the launch and future growth will be noticed.

In the software ranking, Switch version of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" sold 193.000 and won 1st place. Wii U version also sold 45.000 and came to 4th place.

In addition, 1-2 -Switch sold 82.000 and ranked 3rd. Meanwhile, Horizon: Zero Dawn sold 110.000 and appeared at 2nd place. It was a good start with shortage at some stores."

That all sounds good.^^ Hope Ninty can continue this great momentum.^^

Media Create will give attach rate and maybe initial shipment for Switch.

That will show how widespread sell-outs were at launch, not that it will make any difference in the long run.

Posted in the previous thread, but I post it here again for the ones who haven't read it yet.

_____

Switch next shipment is planned for Saturday 11th in Bic Camera. It will be raffle units, though.

Schedule:
From 9:00 to 10:00 raffle's tickets pick up time (1 per person)
12:00 results
From 12:00 to 16:00 purchase time for the winners

So you won't be able to go to a store and just buy it. Only if you're lucky enough lol

Is this all Bic Camera? Going to give it a try in Kyoto if true. Also, do you have to be there at 12 to see if you're a winner? Or just sometime between 12-4?

Dengeki out, Zelda 204k, Horizon 113k, 1 2 Switch 90k, Bomberman 38k, DQH 22k, Puyo 12k, Disgaea 4k, Setsuna 3k, Nobunaga at 2k 勝利

336k Switch, 379k software so 1.14 ratio.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Dengeki with some important relative differencies for several Switch games (both higher and lower than Famitsu / MC). The hardware is around the same level as the other trackers.

Dengeki reports 95% sell-through for Switch Hardware. So less than 20k units left.

店頭消化率はほとんどのお店で95%前後に達し、週末には品切れ店が続出するなど、初回出荷分に関してはほぼ完売となった。次週以降の動きに注目したいところだ。

Do we have sell-throughs for other recent launches? At a first glance, Switch's seems the highest in the past few years.

I don't know but I feel that PS4 hardware should have gotten a bigger boast. Its constantly getting 100k+ releases and got a new color too and still not getting above 50k.

Previously I thought it will do around 1.9m this calendar year but now I have some doubts. Anyway just my 2 cents
Considering the competition from Switch, PS4 did better than I expected actually, mainly due to the recent good software releases like Horizon, Nioh, Resident Evil 7, Nier and Super Robot Wars V.

The last console there has been complete sell-out at launch is PSP. Maybe PS3 too but that had very low shipment.

That's a very respectable result. Hopefully Nintendo's next shipment is able to meet demand. They don't want the launch to be connected with unhappy customers unable to buy the console.

As expected. I'm also expecting there to be a significant bump the week of the Global Testfire.

I'm still thinking they will do multiple global testfire before the launch. That's a great way to bring attention to the device while also providing a free marketing avenue in the lead up to the launch of Splatoon. Personally I've outlined how I'd personally handle the launch:

Mulitple Global Testfires:
- First one provides all the weapon classes and all the old weapon classes.
- Second one allows people to squad up.
- Third one demonstrates a new mode and you are able to squad up again

Rankings are released for each region for top performing squads and top performing individuals. Those teams are invited to a Global Tournament to face off against the best squads from the original Splatoon.
The final Global Testfire before the launch Nintendo also live streams the full tournament.

Also it be nice if individuals who scored the best in the global testfires in each region get Splatoon 2 as a prize, as well as a custom accessory they can equip in-game to make things extra fresh.

It's still amazing how well Splatoon is doing on youtube/niconico in Japan and how much better it would do once Splatoon 2 is released with a Spectator mode. I hope Nintendo fully utilizes the new feature and has really decided to market and finance Splatoon as a major eSport. Like I've said previously Japan really hasn't had something that's entirely catering to their taste in terms of eSports. There are individuals obviously but not really any huge team games that are popular compared to the size of eSports in Europe/NA/China/South Korea. Splatoon 2 is really going to usher in a new era for Japan and I'm very interested in how things will turn out.

Global testfires also need to demonstrate the handheld aspect of the game, so being able to form squads during the testfire to me seems very natural and stimulates community building around the sequel.

No. There's a stock issue on Switch. It was even confirmed by Dengeki that there's a 95% sell-through on it. So, if there's no stocks coming this week then it's really going to sell below 100k.

It's pretty obvious Nintendo created artificial shortage again. That's the reason Wii sold and they try to repeat the same situation.

Thank you and if you can add the table that will be very nice..
what is the required per week average for PS4 to hit 5.0 million before PS3?

Considering the competition from Switch, PS4 did better than I expected actually, mainly due to the recent good software releases like Horizon, Nioh, Resident Evil 7, Nier and Super Robot Wars V.

thats my point too.. That PS4 has 5 100k+ First week release in 9 weeks.. Which is quite impressive and much better than i believe any other first quarter for PS4. So i was expecting a bit higher jump for PS4 in hardware.

I am more interested to see how the PS4 baseline is effected in the summer release drought (if there is any, i m not sure about PS4 summer releases)

Totally. I'm expecting at least two before it launches. The first one is perfect because it's right before school starts in Japan (April) and the second one should be a week before school is out in Japan (July).

Second Week Sales (Media Create)

Wii: 85.439 / 435.797
3DS: 209.623 / 584.387
PSV: 72.479 / 397.338
Wii U: 126.916 / 435.058
PS4: 65.685 / 374.839

With the 95% sell-through, over Wii, Wii U & PS4; and this week shipment being a lottery, second week drop will be worse than Wii.

I still don't understand where and how all the shipments are being allocated

I'm thinking there is two different options:

  • US & Canada - 1 million, Japan - 500k, Rest of World - 500k
  • US & Canada - 800k, Japan - 700k Rest of World - 500k
  • US & Canada - 900k, Japan - 650k, Rest of World - 450k
  • US & Canada - 750k, Japan - 750k, Rest of World - 500k

Don't think it makes much sense to have Nintendo allocating more than 500k towards Europe and the Rest of the World, I'm thinking that they would allocate more stock towards countries that sell the initial shipments first. Keeping Japan waiting espeically with a Globaltestfire coming up doesn't make much sense.

In any-case it won't make sense to me if Nintendo isn't meeting demand during launch month especially considering this thread:

nintendoproductiondasqa.png

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1302223

I believe at a certain point it was commented that around 300k Switches can be produced a month. I don't think that's going to be sufficient and they will need to ramp up production especially for MK8D if they are close to selling ou the the initial 2.6 million for March/April(assuming 300k per month starts from launch).

Also Nintendo announced an increase of production which was due to strong pre-orders at the beginning of the year

The 2 million allocation was for the whole March and it seems that only around half of it was actually ready for launch day.

If there are shortages then we'll see low sales next week and expect to see some people say "wow look at that epic collapse from the Switch!"

The 2 million allocation was for the whole March and it seems that only around half of it was actually ready for launch day.

They will portion it out for the rest of the month. We should get some PR this week about Switch shipments/sales world wide so far to get a better picture.
