It IS the case. You'll create any type of game you want from FPS to sidescrolling platformer, but this time you'll be able to make it more professionally and share assets within the community more easily.
This is what I was hoping for when I first saw the demo.

The dancing puppet scene was really weird, but if I can create actual 3D games with this I'll be there day 1.

In LBP you can create music and story sequences that resembled nothing like the core game, didn't make the core game any less of a platformer.

This doesn't sound very interesting. I know MM want to move on from LBP, but I'd have preferred a real game to this.

It's been attempted before and it never works as intended.

This can potentially lead to some mind blowing creations by users. SOme very talented folk out there as shown by LBP user levels

I can almost see Sony feeling regret after such a great start from this team. Littlebigplanet was practical. And Sony needs quick turnaround right now.

This project is what excites me most about PS4, and next gen in general. LBP was a genuine game changer for us creative types. This looks like a more advanced version of LBP. An incredible amount of potential here, guys. Cannot wait to hear and see more of this.

I'd think if this develops into a shippable product, they'll include some sort of game they made with it, much like they did with LittleBigPlanet.

As of right now, everything still seems unclear about what this really even is. They definitely did not do a good job at the reveal imo and used too many big vocab words. Now people are confused, including me, as to what's actually going on. Maybe they haven't finalized it either though, which is weird.

Yeah. Hopefully it'll be as good as LBP, which I thought was pretty great, even if we don't take the creation tools and and the user created levels into account.

Until they show the game, though, this PS4 project won't come near my "to buy" list.

Seriously, custom 3D worlds would be amazing. I just can't imagine it. Where there any huge scenes we've seen? Like big areas that someone can build a platformer into for some N64 style platforming on a PS4!

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Everyone wants them to do a Mario64/3d Game Creator in the same vein as LBP. It feels kinda weird to see them dance around the edges like this. Games and levels, bro. Not puppet shows nobody will watch.

I'm just imagining a LittleBigPlanet 3D. It's where I've sort of hoped to see the game go after LBP2.

Together with that awkward Infamous dramatization, they were the low points of Sony's presentation. Very close to Kinect-levels of awkward.

LittleBigUniverse. Play, Create, Share, except this time do it all in 3D. Such an obvious and natural evolution for the LBP franchise to take next gen.

I think that is the path they are heading down, but at the same time I understand them wanting to demonstrate what will set their game apart from other 3D platformers. Like even Knack that was shown that very evening.

I think, after LBP Vita, Tarsier are more than capable of handling something like this now. They've earned my trust, especially if Media Molecule are a tired of working on the LBP franchise.

But yeah, a 3D LBP game has to happen next gen.

Media Molecule are a truly creative bunch.
Really excited to see what they are cooking up.

People made fun of their little segment at the PS Meeting in Feb, but it was the potential of those ideas they were trying to communicate that is fascinating to me.

Sold. Loved the tech demo too - really don't get people's confusion over it other than their brain refusing to process the information "tech demo" and insisting on expecting a "game demo".

LBP remains a standout effort for me this gen against a sea of genre generic titles - even with it's float-y physics.

If they really pull this off I can't wait to see what's created and shared.

I absolutely loved LBP 1 and 2. LBP 1 was probably the first game I actually followed during it's prerelease phase, and wiggled my way into the beta (and every subsequent LBP beta). I bought the hell out of the LBP 2 collectors edition with no regrets to this day.

I love the games mostly because of the creation tools (I've spent days in LBP2's creator and I haven't released anything except a crappy concept demo), so this sounds like a wet dream come true. I've got complete faith in Media Molecule to pull off something outstanding, and I can't wait to hear more about whatever this turns out to be.

Kaz bless you, Mm.

Their next project won't be related to LBP, so you shouldn't really view this as LBP in 3D, unless you refer to its basic core elements of play/create/share.

I think people are wrongly understanding this open creation part. Their priority is to make things fun, with charming art/music, etc, hard to do that without gameplay... Only thing that is uncertain is probably whether this will be a platformer/racer/fps, or if they are more likely to do some kind of mish-mash (cause the tool allows them), but then they will have to do some magic with the overall theme to make it cohesive. I think it would be too far and unrealistic to only expect them to deliver an empty tool without a game.

I know that Media Molecule is all done with LBP now, and I'm fine with that. They can work on whatever they want; I just hope their PS4 project is a legit game and not some "open creation software tool." All I'm saying is, as far as LBP is concerned, whichever team is working on it for next-gen needs to take that next evolutionary step and make the game a 3D platformer. Tarsier did a commendable job with the Vita title, so I know Mm doesn't need to be involved for a LBP game to be great.

They're releasing Tearaway this year, and it's way too early to judge their PS4 effort.

I assume Sony bought MM precisely because they're innovative, so I doubt they regret anything at this point. I would be more concerned if they got up on stage and demoed some CoD alike featuring mechs.

LBP has made a ton of money through DLC. The series is a much bigger seller than people realize.

Who's going recreate their old favorite games, but change some location/character names to avoid lawsuits?
I know I will. :D

Too much money. God that DLC adds up. If someone were to try and nab it all, it'd probably equate to buying the full-priced game three or four times over.

That's actually what I didn't like about the LBP community. For the brief time I lurked around LBP forums, all I ever saw for concepts or submitted levels were either recreations of other games, or well-designed levels that only utilize the standard Gagetry that Mm supplies you with (Grabbinators, Grappling hook, etc.). That's cool and all... but it gets old, and makes it seem like the community doesn't have a creative bone among them. The LBP2 creation tools have so much potential to make something original. Hell you can get rid of the LBP-style platforming gameplay altogether if you wanted to, but I hardly ever see this.

Didn't Media Molecule spend a bunch of money on R&D a couple of years ago?
They did report investing in R&D, the result of which is probably the sculpting tool, animation tool, and most likely other stuff which we still haven’t seen.

Although this was a prevalent trend with LBP/2, I still think there were lots of unique ideas, and original concepts.

So let me get this straight. Everything they showed during the conference is a demonstration of what they were trying to implement in a game? I thought they were just tech demos.

It will be cool if their next game creating software allows us to make our own music and animations though.

Now this idea is the first thing that would make me interested in Oculus Rift. Sculpting digitally something that you can see right in front of you, and it would feel natural because of the Move controllers. That would be magical.
