Meet the Swedish boy who's turning Japanese, we really think so

Isn't cross-dresser synonymous with transvestite? It doesn't claim he's transgender or transsexual.

A lot of cross dressers don't like the term, since transvestite started as a term that they did it for sexual gratification and basically had a fetish for it.

I doubt this kid is doing it for sexual reasons lol.

Holy hell he's attractive.
I might have to just stay away from this guy before I go all psycho fangirl, considering I'm a straight guy.

Oh who am I kidding, I'll be watching videos and listening to music before the day's up. It's too late now.

Wow, that's creepy looking really. I will watch his video when I get home though.

The link at the top says he is, but the term "tranny" is offensive to the community I believe.

Completely off-topic, but why is this? I mean, to me it just seems like a shortened, easier to say, version of the word. I can think of a lot of other things I have heard transgender type people called that are WAY worse than this.

The connotation the word holds. It's not rocket science.

I'm not sure, I just remember this thread and thought some people may take offense to it:

edit: Nvm, EviLore set us straight on the GAF rules regarding this:

EviLore said:
I fully support the existence of the NeoGAF transgender sub-community, and I'm glad that many of the members of that sub-community have felt safe enough to reveal themselves and talk about what they've gone through. We'll continue to ban the shit out of you if you go into the pics thread and call Jamie a "trap" and what have you.

But I'm not universally banning the word "tranny" from GAF. People don't know what to call TG people. We're dealing with something that's not really on the radar very much for the general populace. "Tranny" is the main word people know, and it's only because of that that it's used both innocuously and for jokes and insults. If tranny is then relegated to slur status, and the next word becomes the norm, it will be used in the same contexts as tranny and we'll run into the exact same issue as soon as it becomes the popular term. And I'm not going to help perpetuate a fallacious cycle of political correctness.

I think we made major headway when several TG gaffers came out into the open and answered questions and helped educate people a while back. It definitely changed the tone of the OT forum. That's the path to understanding and acceptance, not this white knight championing his cause of the day (clearly only caring about the championing, not the cause).

this seems to be a common theme among insults to particular groups of people
tranny
spic
jap

just shortened versions of longer, acceptable words. I guess it's all about how these words are usually said and the intent behind saying them.

I'm loling because the edit made it worse.

lol.. I tried to PM him... :\

Remember when former president bush called the Pakistani people Paki's?

That should kinda solve it..

Fair enough, but what the hell is "spic" the short form of?

That much I understand. Did they just chop up the word completely? I mean, you could take out the "Hi" and "pan" and get it I suppose, just seems weird.

Well, learn something new everyday I guess. lol

Off topic (well sorta, Giancarlo Esposito is Hispanic), but finally started watching Breaking Bad and Gus is awesome...and also as a bit of trivia, but my boss's mother is dating the actor who plays him.

He brought us back Breaking Bad caps from last season's shoot.

That's some awful music they are playing, also while he is good guitar player he isn't really phenomenal like some of you make it sound.

I thought the point of Visual Kei is to look the part and the playing part comes second. He's got that down.

Yeah, and it's entirely contextual.

"Jap" isn't derogatory in England but "Paki" is, while "Paki" isn't derogatory in other Anglo-sphere countries.

All about context.

Wow this dude is really good. The appeal in Japan makes complete sense culturally as he fits a ton of the favorite archetypes that are popular to teen girls over there. Honestly if the guy wasn't already doing it I'd be saying his smartest move would be to aim his career at their country. Great stuff.

yeah, i think he has technical talent but the songs themselves are just vehicles to showcase that talent, and not that good in and of themselves.

dressing up as a cute girl, which girls in japan are attracted to, but then when you get fans, you can let them know you're not gay and smang it all night.

BRILLIANT! It's so counterintuitive, it works.

That kid is living the dream.

Seems like the easiest thing to compare it to would be homosexual and 'homo.'
But yeah, I've always assumed it is what you are saying, that it is like 'jap' or something.

Uh...congrats to him I guess. Though I think weeaboos are weird, the fact he has a legitimate skill ontop of his weeabooness makes him kinda cool. Also the fact he knows the language makes it a bit better. I always found the people who "wanted to be Japanese" and had be into the culture for YEARS still speak the same amount of Japanese as they did when they first learned about the country...none.

SU-PA KAWAII!
