Titled Flabby Versions of Your Favorite Superheroes!

From the article:

This year, attendees all appear to have colluded in advance to imagine the most popular heroes and villains of comics, movies and anime as doughy, sickly, weak, infirm or, in the most impressive examples, morbidly obese. What we observed was a testament to the imagination and resourcefulness of the comic book fan, a live "What If?" comic, if you will, contemplating how our heroes would look close to death.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got to see cool stuff like Captain America's costume from the upcoming Avengers movie. But our subjects had no need for athletic-cut performance wear like this. The theme was Homely Heroes and no bodily dimension was too great in their pursuit of squat glory.

Example of the captions:

Jeez, they'll clone anyone into a Fett these days. Hey, Blob o' Fett, there's a bounty out on a granola bar if you want the collar.

I feel like this was all written by McBain. Its just offensive, and bullying.

Infact, someone should ping them for bullying. I bet it'd gain traction.

Ditto, this is just shitty bro humor, which means painfully unfucking funny.
It might be "bro humor" but it's a level of snark no different than any other media site out there, including whatever you read.

Id say they shouldnt be able to get away with them being a fitness magazine and suddenly making an article putting their noses where they just dont belong at all (the fuck are they doing at NYCC other than "hunting" for this?), making fun of nerds cause they arent like them and saying they are version of superheroes close to their deaths? fuck them in the ass, none of their fucking business.

Ah sorry, adults can't be bullied. Forgot the cut-off is ...18?

Yes, it is most definitely a bullying mentality. Its sophomoric, and I'm betting they will take it down or have to apologize for it. Its in bad taste. And its not remotely funny, or clever. I don't know if i'm more put off by that, or the lame mindset of the journalist.

This is how most of you operate:

If it is supposed to be funny and is about something I like I will think it is funny no matter what

If it is mean-spirited toward something I like I will get excessively indignant no matter what

Wait, not being able to get away with what?
Calling people chubby?
Like, seriously?
Are there other things that we can't call people in print form now?
How about 'stupid' or 'evil'?
Come on man.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by none of their business.
Do you have problems with nerds making dudebro jokes too?
What about dumb blonde jokes?

I didn't say adults can't be bullied.
I said that I'm having very hard time accepting that calling an adult fat is bullying.
Again, is anything bad I say to a person is bullying?
If I call you stupid, is that bullying too?

They also make fun of the skinny Iron Man.

In the same manner.

I mean, i dont even get what the article is supposed to do. I guess the magazine is supposed to make you want to be fit.. by doing what? threatening you like "If you dont lose weight you'll become a loser and we'll make fun of you!"

i just dont see the point at all other than a disgusting circle-jerk.

point me towards a "brunette women" magazine that makes blonde jokes in articles.

also who's calling chubby? they're going way beyond that dude, they're not aiming for "cute"

Yet, I'm wondering if people are as quick to defend 'bullying' those who are in great shape (anyone see those planet fitness commercials alluding to the fact that people who are jacked can't even tie their shoes?)

It's childish anyway you slice it, but I'm not sure there would be a defense force if the shoe was on the other foot...

Why is this upsetting?

That's the whole point of cosplay, it allows the rest of us to make fun of fat people.

If anything they saved us the time of tracking down the fat pics by collecting them in one place.

The only thing wrong with this article is that it's not funny enough. I think GAF can come up with better captions.

Wait, so your issue is that it's a fitness magazine?
Like, you were fine had wired posted the same article?

Is fat like the n words for nerds now?

Agreed.
For fuck's sake, if you can't laugh at cosplayers, what can you laugh at?
What next, not making fun of furries?

Stupid? Definitely. Repulsive? Not really.

Just as repulsive as the constant dude-bro/meathead references I read often.

It's a lifestyle! These people represent a self destructive culture that must be eliminated before they taint the normies. Why else do you think we send them off to Fat Camps?

yes, the fact that its a fitness magazine makes it worse IMO cause it comes off as some sort of superiority circle-jerk over fat people, even though i dont really see any other respected publication being able to pull something like this.

I really dont see how anyone could defend this crappy "journalism", but hey, im surprised by GAF every day i guess.

I mean what part of "Men's Fitness travels to comic-con only to take pictures of fat nerds and make fun of them cause they look worse than us" sounds like a good idea?

I dunno, the humor is tame compared to some that might've occured in the Cosplay thread; I'd have to re-read it to be sure though.

The Hulk costume in the first caption is amazing. :p

You know, it can be a scary place out there for ignorant jocks.

Who cares about dumpy cosplayers? The best part of Vice magazine has always been do's and donts and this really is just a dumbed down version of that.

I thought this was the point of cosplay (for those not dressing up).

Some of those captions were pretty funny. Calm down guys.

This article is not a big deal, and doesn't hurt my feelings. Jesus people, man the fuck up.

I doubt many fat dudes are crying over the article, its just incredibly shameful.

That is the cost of laughing at dudebros.

I get this argument, but im yet to see a "nerd" supposedly respected and published magazine where they go to some sort of dudebro convention to make fun of them.
