Honestly I felt like some of the tapes were going to be full cutscenes but they couldn't finish them so they just tossed them into a damn audio tape.

Nah, tapes are their compromise for all the bitching they received for long cutscenes in the previous games.

In the previous game* not games. No one complained about mgs1-3+PW.

People definitely complained about long cutscenes and long radio conversations before, things just hit critical level with MGS4.

They came up with the compromise with Peace Walker and used it in MGSV, both have the same approach. Cutscenes for what matters and tapes for long conversations.

Tapes were cool in Peace Walker but I don't remember being able to listen to them while playing. They definitely improved from PW to V.

Well after a long, long wait Konami released the first of the few two-tone camos. My quest to unlock/develop all the things continues.

How's the disarmament movement going on console? I gave up on PC a while back... I suppose the lack of cheaters on console will make it at least attainable for you guys.

Finished mission 43 shining light, even in death.

First scientist I came across was Death Adder, a female soldier I recruited early on. Great solider but I sent her to the medic unit cuz her stat was best there.

Thought, "hey, she's not infected!"

get farther in the mission,

:(

I really didn't want to do that.

Then the Peace Walker theme...

Had to quit the game. Not sure I want to play it for a while. That was a super depressing mission.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts thinks his upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie may be the first great video game movie, he wrote a promising post in a recent reddit AMA.

This is going to be a doozy of an answer…

After years of failing to understand comic book properties, Hollywood has finally cracked the code on how to adapt them into movies and we're seeing the critical and financial benefit from it. Video games are naturally the next wave… Many people think that video games can't successfully be adapted into films because of the inherent difference between an active experience and a passive one. I disagree. In my opinion, part of the reason this code hasn’t been cracked is because Hollywood hasn’t developed these properties with the right filmmaker. The first great video game movie needs to reconcile the fact that each game has its own language that elicits specific emotions from a player while investing an audience in a compelling cinematic narrative rooted in character.
Though many people are skeptical this can be done, the first great video game movie will silence naysayers in the same way THE LORD OF THE RINGS films completely redefined fantasy and reminded people that in film nothing stays “unadaptable” for long. Metal Gear Solid is often poster boy for the “interactive movie,” conception of games. Kojima develops experiences that thrive on interactivity, and then pumps them full of long / idiosyncratic cut scenes that owe their heritage more to the tropes of film than to gaming (even though he's constantly pushing the medium forward) . In a time when the action in movies feel too much like a game, the Metal Gear franchise is a game that has some of the most engaging and inventive gameplay on the planet but people have often said the series feels much like a movie. We must accept the following: The ACTIVE experience of playing a game naturally invests the player because of the personal actions being taken. The PASSIVE experience of watching a movie is very different and you don't have the same kind of natural investment. Plot elements, character arcs and many things that may work well in a game might not translate on screen. So I intend to do two things:

1) understand the actual feelings a game elicits from you when you're playing it. What does Metal Gear make you feel? What is the quiet tension of sneaking around? What is the dread you feel as you're going further and further from safety? What is the panic you feel when the alarm goes off? Those are just basic elements of the MGS formula but finding a way to recreate those feelings on screen is crucial. The MGS series has constantly evolved in those gameplay elements and so there is much to look at...

2) Metal Gear is not like anything else on the planet. Therefore Kojima's voice must be protected. The walking ideologies and talking philosophies of the characters. The complex and varied tone needs to be present. The intensity, the weirdness, everything....(Go watch Kong, it does crazy things with tone).

There's so much more I could write.... but hopefully this started to let you know how much I care about this franchise.

I just returned to this game after over a year's absence, and I'm wondering if you guys can offer any suggestions for tackling the Platinum.

I haven't finished all the tasks, nor have I achieved an S rank every mission--but would I be mistaken trying to complete all the Side Ops first? I figure that doing so would give me the most resources with which to tackle the Main Missions.

Play the FOB Invasion weekly events. You can get points which you can use to get high level staff. I think it's S rank and above. Any staff member who isn't that rank is essentially a dead weight, and should be replaced. Doing so will give you massive boosts to your different platforms. The FOB events are generally really easy, and once you find a route through then that completes all their options all objectives as quickly as possible, you can start racking up S rank staff really quickly.

I've been replaying the series for the first time in probably a decade and while I grasp what MGS2's story is getting at I'm hoping someone can clear up a plot point for me.

So The Patriots (who are now essentially the AI constructs Zero desired to succeed him) concoct a plan (S3) to test their latest AI system, GW, by manipulating Solidus into a terrorist act aboard the Big Shell (which is just a cover for the final stages of development of GW and the Arsenal project). Ok cool so far.

They send in Raiden to see if GW can manipulate him into doing their bidding by selectively feeding and denying him info as well as faking scenarios and contacts (the Colonel) throughout therefore testing GW's capability of doing the same with digital info on a global scale.

Why then does the GW AI itself allow Raiden to gather Emma Emmerich and her digital Foxdie worm cluster and use it to effectively destroy GW (itself!)? It makes no sense. The protection of the Wise mans Committee's identity is moot as it's an "half truth" (like what you did there Kojima!). It never really needed the cluster to vector the deletion of that information as it was another misdirection.

The secondary AI mentions (prior to the final Solidus/Raiden battle) something about completing GW with the inclusion of the worm cluster, but that can't be as, as of MGS4 GW is in ruin and is the very thing re-purposed by Ocelot to finally bring down the AI constructs.

It's seems that the entire purpose of the S3 plan to test GW was pointless as the other AIs essentially destroyed the very system they were testing/supplying test data to.

What?! Why?!

12 years & 3 versions later, I finally beat MGS3 tonight. Had to tell someone, so I'm telling all of you guys.

The sad annoying part is that my current save file was timestamped 2015, and it was literally 4 minutes before The Boss fight.

(Had both PS2 versions when they came out, finally beat it on PS3 with the collection)

Rest in Peace John Cygan. His work in MGS 2 was superb and he was the standout performer for me. Alec Baldwin vibes.

Thought y'all should know but there's an excellent mod that adds like 50 more side quests to MGSV that aren't total copy paste missions. They're actually quite good, and its like this is what the game should've had from the start.

Yeah, the guys modding this game are doing some awesome work.... I myself only play on PC with a few mods now. My main complaint is how janky the game may feel with the mods, wish the UI wasn't so tough to hack so those guys could do some pristine unofficial patches.
