The galaxy is not at peace. Following the destruction of Phazon and the corrupted world, Phaaze, the Space Pirate threat remains. As a recruit in the Federation Force, a best-of-the-best unit created by the Galactic Federation, it’s your duty to stamp out the Space Pirate menace. Suit up in specialised battle armour, known as a Mech, and head out to the desolate Bermuda system to investigate reports of suspicious activity, using your handy blaster to eliminate any enemies that get in your way!

mpffgameplaybnj5e.png

As a member of the Federation Force, you’re considered the cream of the crop within the Galactic Federation. You’re the first line of assault against the Space Pirates, and only the most dangerous, important tasks fall to you and your squad mates.

Travel to the far reaches of space and thwart the Space Pirates’ plan in Campaign mode. Embark on co-operative missions for up to four players via Local Play or online multiplayer*, working together to fulfil objectives and fend off foes. Or, if you’re feeling particularly daring, head out on your own with optional AI Combat Drones as your only backup.

FAQ:
I heard the difficulty doesn't scale in the campaign if you're not playing with 4 people?
Yes and no. The more human players there are, the more enemies are thrown at you but their HP/DMG does not change. If you are playing solo or with one other player, you can add A.I. drones to your team as support units.
How does this control?
Exactly the same controls as Metroid Prime on GameCube. Only on your 3DS. New 3DS C-stick for the camera is supported. Gyro aim is also supported and it lets you do the locked-on-free-aim found in the Wii editions of the Prime games.
Can you solo the entire campaign?
Yes.
The OP is pretty sparse, should I read it anyway?
Yes.

I just watched a good chunk of polygon's 30 minute preview ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q09QzirGA0 ) and I'm kinda sold on it? We'll see if i can pull myself away from monster hunter enough to play, but I might grab it this weekend.

The boss fight it shows early on kinda reminds me of an mmo boss fight. I think it's the damage numbers + phases.

Too bad there isn't a Metroid themed New Nintendo 3DS... would have been a great way to promote the game.....

Too bad Blast Ball didn't get ported to Wii U as well as some kind of free game to play.

Funnily enough.... I will be getting this game eventually because I wanna experience it for myself.

Thinking about buying a 3DS and this game is pushing me a lot to do it. Somehow I can see past all the criticism and really like the look / feel game by the preview videos.

I don't have enough time to really play the game right now, but I did play a few missions and I gotta say this game is quite enjoyable. It may not be a mainline Metroid game, but especially if you can play the multiplayer with friends you're in for a lot of fun!

I appreciate the disclaimer in the OP, this game gets way too much flack for what it isn't rather than what it is.

It looks like a fun spinoff that doesn't take itself too easily, of course it would have been nice for it to be announced alongside a new mainline game but Prime 4 is inevitably in development, this wouldn't be in the Prime series otherwise.

Can't wait to give Federation Force a go, Blastball is a ton of fun.

Sucks it isn't being released in EU yet but we have a better boxart:

In case anyone was wondering, the embargo for reviews ends at midnight EST tonight. There's already a separate reviews thread, but it's probably worth mentioning.

this feels like a perfect rental game, will get it when the price drops
lets be real, certain nintendo games keep their prices while others don't

will watch vids on youtube to check it out

I'm getting physical so I can play across both of my systems. I will get back to you tomorrow if someone else does not.
Wait, I thought download play was only for blastball?

Apropos, may I suggest a subtitle for the inevitable |OT2|: Quad Force Federation Heroes ; )

I think he means he'll test his copy on both systems. It sounds like it's pretty much the same experience from a technical perspective, so any differences would be relatively minor.

One thing I would love to know is whether EU players can play with NA players. Unless someone from EU press who has a code try out tomorrow, we won't know until September...

The GameXplain Q&A confirmed cross-region play between the US and Europe.

Gamexplain confirmed this, the game's multiplayer is not region locked.

Does progress in multiplayer stay between sessions?

No clue. There's been a lot of weird silence how the mission select works.

Including other things we don't know about, such as:
function of medals
skins (other than the 3 from amiibo)
post game (understandable)

that was actually my alt for this one :)

No, I mean to play it on both n3DS for more convenient play and on my OG for the circle pad pro. This is where one system per NNID is going to bite me in the ass.
Duh. I need to catch some sleep. Game's not out here until the 2nd next month anyway. Share more impressions, Across-the-pond-GAF!

As much as I've complained about the game I'm still going to give this Metroid a shot; have enough affinity for the series I'm still curious to play it more than the PAX demo. That mentality didn't serve me well worth Triforce Heroes but you never know.

Honestly hoping for some Bounty Hunters cameos from Hunters and 3: Corruption.

One of the reasons I don't care to upgrade to New 3DS is for games that use the right stick I much rather use the Circle Pad Pro than a nub even with possible performance improvements. Also having stacked shoulder buttons instead of them being parallel on New 3DS is a plus.

Oh man, if Nintendo released a Metroid theme New 3ds I would have reserved that when announced regardless of how Metroid Prime FF turned out.

From what I read this looks to be turning out to at least be fun, but I'll still wait to see what the reviews and player impressions will be before putting money down on this.

This game had such potential. Apart from negativity the game received, it looks fun. But I am tired of this graphical style. It could have been something great on Wii U with a different art.
I am really looking forward to read some more opinions about the game, from people who played.

To be clear, do we know if the entire campaign can be played solo? I'm not interested in playing online really, but the demo was decent and I love the presentation with the chibi marines and their mechs. The cutscene where you jump into your mech and initialize the systems was particularly slick IMO.

Can the C stick be used with gyro aiming?

The demo (You can actually unlock a short demo of this in the Blast Ball demo by playing three matches of Blast Ball) did not allow this, which is my main gripe with that. Neither control scheme felt optimal as moving and turning with the same stick feels terribly awkward to me these days and the c-nub just isn't sensitive enough for precise control.

Some devs really need to realize that offering a choice of a couple preset control schemes is terrible design compared to just allowing full customization.

Actually, looking at the demo, it does allow gyro with C-stick. There is that tiny Options option in controls where you can enable it.

I was gonna wait for the inevitable holidays sales to pick this up but now I'm contemplating just getting it tomorrow instead.

Hnng...must stay strong.

Oh shit this releases tomorrow!?!?! I expected more of a hype attempt from Nintendo first...

- runs well on ordinal 3ds?
- what are controls without circle pad pro?

Sort of:
In scheme B (for second stick e.g. n3DS and CPP) there's an option to enable gyro while locked on. However, as far as I can gather this disables the second stick while locked on.

(the picture is confusing so Sidestep is jump while holding sideways while your camera is fixed)

If you have any concerns about the controls, I heavily encourage to try the blast ball demo first.

I just tried it out in the demo and it feels a little better than the other control options. Using the c-stick to turn and look feels better for general movement but then allowing gyro while locked on makes it easier for precision aiming in combat.

I would've still preferred an option for always-on gyro + c-stick turning ala Splatoon, but oh well.

What's with the text in the banner image.

It looks like they're sets parameters for some sort of object? Probably some sort of constructor used as lorem ipsum.

L isn't a hex value though so they went out of their way to write gibberish. Cute.

The very first thing I'm going to do is see if the Amiibo content is extensive or limited. I'm so hoping for the former so I can go online and parade about in my swanky King Dedede themed mech. Or run a medic set up and go with the Dr Mario mech.

Only Samus and Zero Suit are supported explicitly in the main game. Any other amiibo will give a generic skin.

There's a wider variety of support in blast ball, but mostly for mario figures, and neither of those are supported. Again, you get a generic skin for anything not supported.
