Metroid Zero Mission (or "OH MY GOD!")

Holy crap. I just played through the game for the first time and I almost can't believe the sheer quality of it. I loved Fusion and Super Metroid, and now I'm in love with this game as well. The little twist near the end was such a fantastic surprise. I don't think that was in the original Metroid, was it? (the section once you beat Mother Brain and more gaming awesomeness ensues) And there are so many endings to get! I could be playing this game forever. Actually, I still need to meet the challenges in Fusion. :-\ This game is just...amazing. Words cannot describe how fantastic it is. The music, the visuals, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story sequences, the EVERYTHING. This franchise has just vaulted into my personal top 5 favourites.

Now, to figure out how the hell to beat this thing in under 2 hours...I did it in about 3 and a half. (got the ending where Samus has her helmet off) I might also want a strategy guide for 100% item completion. Thank you Nintendo. Now remake Metroid II and Super Metroid.

Super Metroid doesn't need to be remade, just ported to the GBA or included as an unlockable in MP2. Metroid II on the other hand really needs to be remade for the GBA (ala Metroid Zero Mission), but it must retain its "black-sheep-of-the-series" nature.

Metroid Fusion was my first 2D Metroid (and so far only one), and I was completely blown away by the gameplay mechanics of the game, it made me really regret never playing a Metroid game before, and I kept thinking how fantastic it must have been for people to play Super Metroid back in the day... Now I can't wait to get my hands on Zero Mission, I played it very briefly on an emulator and I can already tell that I'm going to love it more than Fusion.

METROID ROX!

Hints are lame. I had lots of fun with Zero.. especially bomb jumping (its almost too easy, I can get anywhere straight up or diagonal with bombs), but Exploring is my favorite thing about the series, and they've ruined that for me.

You can still explore all you want. The time and item % challenges are just bonuses.

I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce!
Zero Mission is easily one of my favourite games on the system. Too bad I was spoiled about the surprise in the game, that killed a lot of the excitement for me. :(

Yeah, I know. But exploration for all the missles and bombs sort of loses its charm once I'm already disapointed with the 'X marks the spot' aspect of the main route. I avoided the chozo statues I could (which was irritating the first time through cause some heal you), but some block your advancement. It may be good game design, but for me, it ruins what makes Metroid, Metroid.

The best thing about MZM for me was the deliberate possibilities for sequence breaking included by Nintendo. Sure it loses some of its charm that way, but it see it as an acknowledgement of the hardcore Metroid player. Including different endings for low percent runs was also a nice gesture in the same vein.

Also, after playing MZM I have newfound appreciation for Fusion after my initial dissappointment. I appreciate the different take on the series and the story/script driven nature of it. Not all Metroid games should have to play exactly the same.

There have always been multiple ways to finish a Metroid game. There is no prerequisite of spoon feeding for this mechanic to be implemented.

IAWTP.

I think the incoporation of the Prime Story into MZM alone is worth paying the price of entry to get that sense of connection. Great new twist eh?

Japanese Commercial

Check out the Japanese TVCM (TV Commercial) for Metroid Zero Mission. Hot chick in spandex bending over (with crotch shots and all) and white spooges swimming towards her ass.

Pornographic? You be the judge...

Super Metroid to be in a Pre-Order campaign for MP2, just like OoT to TWW :O ..

that would be AWESOMEEEEZZZZ
Actually, if it had to been ported to GC, I would rather see an improved version with extra paralax and 3D effects on backgrounds a la SOTN.

I enjoyed it like every other Metroid, but I felt the bosses (especially Kraid) were INSANELY easy! I was so dissapointed.

Whoa...Samus is ASIAN.

That commercial totally spoils the surprise. :) I had no clue that was going to happen in the game so when it did I was like "OMG! Sexy stealth!"

Don't let it stop you from playing the game. I think you and me were playing Fusion at around the same time and I remember how much you really liked it. This one's just as good. I've gone through it twice now. Haha...2 hours and 3 minutes...that was on Easy mode though, just to see if getting through the game in under 2 hours was something I could do. With that time to build on, I think I can. I already started my third game.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Loved Zero Mission; need to replay it, since I missed a large amount of energy tanks and missles. I couldn't figure out
how to return to the plaent's surface once you get your suit back at the end of the game.

The winner and still GBA champ-een is without a doubt Castlevania: Aria Of Sorrow, though. Only game in this play style that beats it is SOTN. :) Metroid rocks, but Castlevania took its formula and made it even better.

Don't be tempted, Alucard. They give you enough clues in game. Map screen tells you what is in each area. Bomb around looking for zip blocks. Getting 100% has some cool puzzles.

Anyway, glad you liked it.

I need to figure out how to get back to the main area once you get your complete suit before anything else. After that I'll try to get 100% on my own but I don't know how easy that will be. I can't get that damn dash move going when I'm in a ball...that is, I can't get it to charge straight ahead on the ground.

Woo. I'm about to fight Kraid again. I have to agree with whoever said that the bosses are a little easy. I can see them being a little more challenging if you're trying to beat the game with only 15% though. Especially Mother Brain. Ugh. So damn annoying.
