Michel Ansel has found SNES Rayman

Concerned about dinosaur erection.
Lost for 24 years, Michel Ancel actually managed to find the EPROM for the unreleased Super Nintendo Rayman. And it still works:

Incroyable !!!! We have found the old unique Rayman SNES ROM !!!! It was sleeping for 24 years ..... Time to wake it up !!!!

It's working !!!! 4 people in the world have seen this . We thought it was lost , but somewhere in the cold electronic circuit , something was still alive . and running at full 60fps !!! should do a Switch version of this

So this is huge news for Rayman/Ancel fans. Personally hoping to see some gameplay. For the uninitiated, the SNES version was VERY different than what we ended up with: https://www.unseen64.net/2010/07/10/rayman-snes-cancelled/

Apparently Ancel has believed not so long ago that no prototype survived until now, but this one did. So far we got one screenshot showing a previously not seen, at least SNES-wise, area. There are however no announcements of anything he plans to do with it now that it has surfaced. More screens? A let's play? A release on the web? A release by Ubisoft, perhaps as a bonus DLC? Basically, so far it doesn't look like any of these will happen.

Port me to Jaguar if old.

EDIT: Well, yes it is.

I kinda like Fat Rayman.

I mean...that game was already done though, and it was published (albeit in Japanese)
Mother was published in Japan but Earthbound had a lot of content, interface and balancing changes in addition to the english localization. It's actually in line with the later GBA port on Mother 1+2.

Still it shows Nintendo will do an unpublished VC game, in addition to untouched import releases (too many to list) and new localizations (Sin & Punishment, Monster World IV).

was the game completed?

Probably not, but this is one of those prototypes where simply no one knows anything (yet?), the three screens we had earlier were basically everything and it's even possible they're from a different prototype altogether. It's probably beyond tech demo stage though.

I imagine there would be too many legal issues with them just dumping the ROM anytime soon. That being said, it would be cool if the game was mysteriously leaked ;)

Ninty doesn't allowed unpublished games on VC.

Dang, there goes my dreams of Star Fox 2 on VC

I look forward to 25 years from now when Ancel rediscovers the Beyond Good and Evil 2 code. 'Ah, remember when Ubisoft stopped us from releasing this twice! Sacre Bleu!'

That's awesome. Glad that things from that era are still popping up.

The CD based systems won't be so lucky, recordable CD media is very fragile, especially the kind of recordable media that was available in the mid 90s.

Manufactured discs should last 50-100 years if stored well and undamaged but recordable discs are not likely to last past 15-20.
