Microsoft says Xbox has less than half the MAUs of PlayStation

You know there exist something outside consoles, right? You know this old thing called computers.
Math also exists.

If total MAU = 120m ( includes PC, Console and Mobile)

Console = 50m (has to include console, Console + PC, Console + mobile, console + PC + mobile users)

Then PC, Mobile, PC + Mobile = 70m

Yeah.... No.

The line above says "console" base of the UK. That line is console MAUs globally, just use context.

Even if we "just use context" and assume they are only counting their console users in reference to MAU, why are they comparing that with Playstation's total MAU?

They are clearly talking console MAUs here.

It says "console". Context clues people. Holy shit. You think Microsoft's lawyers just lie all day

Xbox Live / Gamepass MAU's have doubled their console MAUs for years now.

Sony fans man…
Ah yes, so Sony can just exclude things to suit their needs too.

Because PlayStations console MAU doubles Xbox's console MAU? It has for years.

Playstations total MAU is their console MAU (at least the number is close enough) don't think their mobile and tv streaming users make a substational difference.

I am wondering, what MAUs would Sony have outside of PlayStation consoles? Do their games on Steam require you to login to PSN? I have never bought a PS game on PC, so I have no clue. If they don't, then would that be essentially PS Plus Premium users that are only streaming games to PC? (formerly PS Now).

Do you guys not see the problem with making an assumption about another parties numbers in a legal context like this?

We don't know what Playstation's MAU break down is, in the same way that we don't know what Xbox's is when they update the public on their MAU figures. Figures like MAU can be manipulated and inflated in any number of ways.

Clearly?

Show us where it says "console" in this sentence.

Yes, indeed! I would also like to see all the court documents (if Sony releases them) about their (Sony) exclusive deals. Let's go 100% transparency in 2023!

When Sony is being investigated for a big acquisition like this, I'm sure we'll get the juicy information. Until then, let's enjoy this data from Microsoft 😄

For the people who don't get it, the larger number they gave before includes PC, mobile etc. Right here they are giving you JUST xbox consoles vs Playstation consoles.

Seems like they are just moving goal posts. If they want to be fair they would have to compare the same group of MAUs.

I'm reading through this thing now. They recognize that Playstation is the market leader and expect Microsoft to use that fact to compete harder, so the activision merger will weaken Sony. It also says that Microsoft has a strong catalog of games.
huh Strong catalog of games.
huh

- Our rival isn't Sony, it's Google and Amazon. That's why we release MAU numbers that focus only on consoles where neither Google nor Amazon are competing with us;
- That's also why none of the remedies we offered meant to sooth any concerns about those rivals;
- We won't take games from anyone, but even if we dit that would benefit everyone;
- Game Pass doesn't harm sales at all, but we do sell less games because of Game Pass;
- We are a very small company, so small that we really need to make this deal, for the value of our (non)competitor's market cap;

Makes sense that this'd be the console split rather than anything else and they're just playing around with statistics. But still, if that's the case the MAU on PC/Mobile seem very large (~70M)..

They may have either lied to the regulators or their shareholders.

There has to be something else we're missing; I can't believe they just did this.
Xbox MAU is different than overall MAU.
Remember that they have PC+Xbox.
That 120m is true since it's counting both platforms.
Also steam requires you to log in to MS/Xbox account.

Had Xbox not spent half a decade making retarded decisions then they wouldn't be in this predicament. Their place in the market is almost entirely tied to the poor leadership from the end of the 360 through the halfway mark of the Xbox One.

MS manipulates the numbers to fit their narrative. For Wall St, they will put out the max possible numbers by being creative about what constitutes an Xbox Division MAU. For regulators, they want to minimize MAU to make themselves seem as small as possible, so they will go for a stricter definition.

Across all services in Xbox, their MAU is 120M, which is 8M above PS 112M. For consoles only, it's <55M MAU. Both can be true. It all comes down to definition and scope.
