When making a statement like this, please elaborate. This does nothing but fuel the fire that you have anti-MS bias. There needs to be more substance here. Thanks
A damn shame Nintendo letting this happen

Hmmm, xbox live may come to switch but in what form remains to be seen.

I'm thinking this is the part of their Xcloud initiative. Maybe switch people will be able to stream game pass titles to their switch...which honestly...would make me buy a switch.

Why? Can you not see how this could potential sell more Switch units?
I have an X but *IF* I had the ability to play my xbox library on the go, buying a Switch would be a no brainer.

Has Microsoft outright said this? If so do you have a source from Microsoft rather than someone on Youtube I have never heard of?

I need to see it from the Horses Mouth before I can believe this, sorry.

I would be down reactivating my Xbox Live Account on the Switch but it seems too far fetched to believe.

I’d be down for being able to stream/play Game Pass titles on Switch. Holy shit, just imagine the possibilities.

I mean, Halo or Gears of War on a toilet like... this is the future right now.

The information comes from the GDC 2019 scheduling website, describing Microsoft's future plans for Xbox Live. Microsoft also plans to leverage its powerful PlayFab suite of backend tools as part of this package, aiming to streamline the process for developers building live games across multiple platforms.
Xbox Live is one of the largest, most engaged gaming communities on the planet with decades of experience providing managed game services to developers that save you time and unlock all of the social and engagement features that players love.
Now Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger. Xbox Live is expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach to over 68M active players to over 2B devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK.
Get a first look at the SDK to enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.

If you could share your progress between the devices and or unlock trophies or achievements, this could be interesting for who might own both consoles. Like playing Minecraft at home and them a few hours later playing it on Switch on the go could be a thing.

And this is the first step of Microsoft abandoning the hardware manufacturing and start selling games via streaming on platforms, from Mobile to PC.

XBL is coming for cross-play games, XBL itself is not coming to Switch. You will not be streaming Xbox games on the Switch either.

I'm still confused on just what I'll be able to play on a switch with this. Will I get to play my entire library? Or just select games?

Interesting. So if we're going on the way it works for Minecraft, developers will have the option to use Xbox Live for things like login credentials, achievements, friends lists, and so on.

The big questions for me are:
1. Will this allow developers to sidestep the Nintendo Switch Online service and instead use Xbox Live to power a game's core multiplayer networking functionality?
2. How many companies am I theoretically going to need to pay subscriptions to in order to play an Xbox Live multiplayer game on Switch? Nintendo? Microsoft? Both?

Ah okay then! Just been back from work so out of the loop. :p

Also I cannot trust your Jigsaw avatar! (Given he likes "playing a game" an all) Haha.

Good to hear anyway! I wonder how it will be implemented?

I see no indication that existing games will become playable on the newly-supported XBL platforms without needing a full port to said platforms.

This looks to me like the equivalent of being able to 'login with google' or 'login with facebook', but for games.

Oh I see. So you just download the games to the switch? And it would only be games like Minecraft and Fortnite? That's...less exciting. However, still, from the business side of things..this is huge.

It's real and theyll talk about it at this GDC in March. I suspect because relations between Microsoft and Nintendo are pretty close, and the Switch is a portable device like your smart phone or tablet.

They arent abandoning traditional hardware. That will still be a thing for quite a few years.

Well yeah, me too, but a primary source is the one that comes straight from the horse's mouth. It's the fundamental proof that the thing being reported on actually happened (ex. an interview or press release) and hasn't been editorialized or changed by the chinese whisper effect on its way through the press system - the way sites quote other sites that in turn quoted other sites that quoted the place where the news actually originated.

Journalism is a mess...

Phil Spencer shows up on the stage and says "this is Xbox Next" and shows a fancy box, with the Xbox logo, very sexy piece of hardware and plastic. But then he says "but we have another model" and he shows up a PC, and a Switch, and an iPad... He says "that's the new Xbox Live, when you can play your Xbox games on whichever plataform you want by the cloud", and the Next model will be local play.

Reggie, Tim Cook and some developers talk in a pre-recorded video about how this gonna be good for all gamers and the next step in gaming.

To finish it, Phil Spencer says "this is love translated into gaming" and everyone cries because feelings.

This isn't nearly as exciting as people are making it to be.

It does not mean you will be playing Xbox One games on Switch.

It does not mean you'll be using GamePass on Switch.

It does not mean you will get Xbox Gold games for free on Switch.

It does not mean you'll have access to play Switch games that you own on Xbox.

It does not mean you will see Xbox achievements for Nintendo games, except maybe if they are also Xbox One games.

It does mean for games that allow cross-play between Switch and Xbox One you will need to log into an Xbox Live account on Switch to enable cross-play.

It does mean there is a possibility for games that are on both platforms you could earn Xbox achievements while playing on Switch.

Thanks for clarifying. However to think that this is all they plan on doing would be ill-advised i think. They aren't going to stop here. I'm gonna bet this would be just the beginning.

Yes...I can see that, but if it's confirmed then why not take some interpretation from a youtuber you subscribe to? I've known ReviewTechUSA to be a very unbiased source of information. He calls it out when consoles do good things as well as bad things. He gives credit where credit is due and will give detracting statements when he believes something isn't what it should be. In this arena (the forums) I believe this can lend to more discussion, where as a dry article from Microsoft would be less interesting as it wouldn't go much beyond the scope of the news at hand. I definitely see where you're coming from, but I believe it's a matter of preference in the end.

I'm sure Xbox would love to allow Switch players to have access to stuff they paid Microsoft for, but I can't see Nintendo signing off on that easily.

Oh shut the fuck up.
It might take more than 2 neurons, but try to elaborate an argument if you don't agree with someone next time. What I say is due to business standpoint, not by consumer standpoint. I can elaborate more given the MS intention since the xbox og, even with the little info we have now, but it is hard to with behavior like this.

I love the aggressive approach Phil is implementing to Xbox. The guy is trying any and everything to make the Xbox platform as attractive to gamers as feasible.

The other theory you have wouldn't be exciting it would be a PR and investor panic.

Not yet, but it's a foot in the door.

No it's not, the intention is to force XBL in cross-play games for additional revenue. Especially for first-party games like minecraft where extra money can give the player new/extra benefits.

The dream of playing Xbox games on all platforms including toasters isn't going to happen when you can drag and lock people to an ecosystem and force them to spend their way out.

Dude, I've been paying for the game pass for 2 months. Enjoyed Forza throughly and i fell in love with.

First: As mentioned before, it is not what it people are making it look like. It is a matter of ecossystem. if you have a google account, you see the ease in loging in and creating accounts everywhere. This is a similar situation. I am not enforcing bias when I say Nintendo shouldn't have let this happen from a Business standpoint. Cross-Play is awesome, keeping stuff from games like Minecraft is too.

But if Nintendo allows this the way the unrespectable people in this thread are assuming, Nintendo itself WILL lose money in many fronts. If the case is a game pass presence in the Switch, as it has a lot of third party games, these same games wouldn't come to Switch.

Nintendo is letting another ecosystem in its own, and this has its ups and downs for the income. Nintendo regulates, sells dev kits, and also gets money from every step of a game to be released on its system, as any other company in the business. Letting Live be there the way some people are assuming IS idiocy at its best. They share a big market share with MS even though Big N thinks they do not. People would rather buy a game off live or game pass than going to their store for example. Anyway, from a user standpoint, this is a dream coming true and I agree with that, but as I said. MS never really cared to participate in this business to explore production of entertainment in the first place. They always wanted to win then living room with some gadget to bring Windows to it, as Bill used to say when xbox og was released. If there was something better than gaming, they would have opted for it instead.

They never cared how they would do, and this new approach is just a revamp of their old intention, changing the business model to confort their own, but nowadays they dont want only the living room, but being present everywhere. It is not to say this is more than business. Not saying it is machiavelic to want this. Just saying Nintendo, given all this info, should not have let this happen.

What does this mean if true? I assume it wouldn't mean that all of a sudden they are putting xbox games on other systems. Would it be a crossplay thing?

Game Pass and xCloud on other systems is definitely something they are aiming for.

There are also evidence that Xbox cross play will be coming to Steam, and probably other launchers too.

That have been quite a few Steam games with cross-play with Xbox for a while already, that's not evidence, it's just old news.

The more people you can get into a game ecosystem the better. It will allow any given game to thrive rather than having people lose interest because there are a lack of players. Look at Rocket League and Fortnite as examples.

A damn shame Nintendo letting this happen

It's not like Ninendo has the infrastructure or the userbase to support a lot of 3rd party titles. This will be very helpful to them. Let's face it, when compared to the Xbox or PS4, the ecosystem is mediocre at best.
