Hmmm, xbox live may come to switch but in what form remains to be seen.
A damn shame Nintendo letting this happen
Yup, through an app, and not through a full revamp in IT and internal management.Yeah, just imagine Nintendo's online service being improved. The horrors.

Why? Can you not see how this could potential sell more Switch units?
I have an X but *IF* I had the ability to play my xbox library on the go, buying a Switch would be a no brainer.
Has Microsoft outright said this? If so do you have a source from Microsoft rather than someone on Youtube I have never heard of?
I need to see it from the Horses Mouth before I can believe this, sorry.
I would be down reactivating my Xbox Live Account on the Switch but it seems too far fetched to believe.

The information comes from the GDC 2019 scheduling website, describing Microsoft's future plans for Xbox Live. Microsoft also plans to leverage its powerful PlayFab suite of backend tools as part of this package, aiming to streamline the process for developers building live games across multiple platforms.
Xbox Live is one of the largest, most engaged gaming communities on the planet with decades of experience providing managed game services to developers that save you time and unlock all of the social and engagement features that players love. Now Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger. Xbox Live is expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach to over 68M active players to over 2B devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK.Get a first look at the SDK to enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.
Except it's not Nintendo's online service, is it?Yeah, just imagine Nintendo's online service being improved. The horrors.
A quick google search will confirm this. The Verge, IGN...everybody is talking about this within the past 24 hours. It's confirmed.
I see no indication that existing games will become playable on the newly-supported XBL platforms without needing a full port to said platforms.I'm still confused on just what I'll be able to play on a switch with this. Will I get to play my entire library? Or just select games?

XBL is coming for cross-play games, XBL itself is not coming to Switch. You will not be streaming Xbox games on the Switch either.
It's real and theyll talk about it at this GDC in March. I suspect because relations between Microsoft and Nintendo are pretty close, and the Switch is a portable device like your smart phone or tablet.Has Microsoft outright said this? They arent abandoning traditional hardware. That will still be a thing for quite a few years. If you could share your progress between the devices and or unlock trophies or achievements, this could be interesting for who might own both consoles. Like playing Minecraft at home and them a few hours later playing it on Switch on the go could be a thing.
And this is the first step of Microsoft abandoning the hardware manufacturing and start selling games via streaming on platforms, from Mobile to PC.
Mods can merge threads, you can try PMing one if you think it's necessary.Oh wow. Sorry didn't see this. Is there a way to merge the threads or something?

This looks to me like the equivalent of being able to 'login with google' or 'login with facebook', but for games.

Well yeah, me too, but a primary source is the one that comes straight from the horse's mouth. It's the fundamental proof that the thing being reported on actually happened (ex. an interview or press release) and hasn't been editorialized or changed by the chinese whisper effect on its way through the press system - the way sites quote other sites that in turn quoted other sites that quoted the place where the news actually originated.I prefer to get my news from youtube before IGN any day of the week.

Not yet, but it's a foot in the door. That's not what this is.
This isn't nearly as exciting as people are making it to be.
It does not mean you will be playing Xbox One games on Switch.
It does not mean you'll be using GamePass on Switch.
It does not mean you will get Xbox Gold games for free on Switch.
It does not mean you'll have access to play Switch games that you own on Xbox.
It does not mean you will see Xbox achievements for Nintendo games, except maybe if they are also Xbox One games.
It does mean for games that allow cross-play between Switch and Xbox One you will need to log into an Xbox Live account on Switch to enable cross-play.
It does mean there is a possibility for games that are on both platforms you could earn Xbox achievements while playing on Switch.

Journalism is a mess...
Thanks for clarifying. However to think that this is all they plan on doing would be ill-advised i think. They aren't going to stop here. I'm gonna bet this would be just the beginning.
It might take more than 2 neurons, but try to elaborate an argument if you don't agree with someone next time. What I say is due to business standpoint, not by consumer standpoint. I can elaborate more given the MS intention since the xbox og, even with the little info we have now, but it is hard to with behavior like this.Oh shut the fuck up.
Oh I see. So you just download the games to the switch? And it would only be games like Minecraft and Fortnite? That's...less exciting. However, still, from the business side of things..this is huge.

The other theory you have wouldn't be exciting it would be a PR and investor panic.
Dude, I've been paying for the game pass for 2 months. Enjoyed Forza throughly and i fell in love with. Why? Can you not see how this could potential sell more Switch units?

Merged the relevant threads.
Sorry, which theory are you referring to and why would it lead to PR and investor panic?
What does this mean if true? I assume it wouldn't mean that all of a sudden they are putting xbox games on other systems. Would it be a crossplay thing?
That have been quite a few Steam games with cross-play with Xbox for a while already, that's not evidence, it's just old news. There are also evidence that Xbox cross play will be coming to Steam, and probably other launchers too.
