Miner Dig Deep Official Thread of Tink, Tink, Tink

I didn't realize Tink Tink Tink would become a catchphrase. :p

I feel like I've put a lot of time into the game, and I'm still on my first play-through. I know next time I'll spend a lot less time worrying about the top section of the mine.

I'm still playing in my first mine. Not sure how deep I am now, but the hauls are in the tens of millions. Think I'm exiting abut 1350 deep. Great fun!!

Damn. I'm at 1050 or so and am a little hesitant to continue onward without being able to use elevators. Are there more teleporters farther down than the ones at 600 and 850 depth?

Yeah this game is pretty fly; well done gaf. Bought it and recommended it to my brother who also bought and is enjoying it.

yeah, there are two more below that, and you finish the game at
1500
. My suggestion: get a bigger bag, and stock up on ladders. just incase.

there is a new game+ type thing as well.

i was hesitant about this game, but i figured for 200 points, why not give it a shot.

i haven't played a game this addictive since Zoo Keeper on DS.

Let me add my support for this game. So far it's my favorite game that you can buy from the entire marketplace, not just XNA, and there are quite a few regular full price games, like Braid, that I love. I just had the most raw fun with Miner Dig Deep. Buy it.

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.
I just bought it!

What's the best thing to do
after you get the big diamond? Is there any point in staying in the old mine or should I just start a new one? Can you still start a new one later?

So I just picked this title up last night, it's really addicting. It kinda gives me a nongame type vibe, something like Animal Crossing, they aren't "goals" per say, although you do have a general defined goal of trying to make a profit at the end of each mining trip by gaining more money than you need for supplies (Kerosine is the real killer here folks), but it still feels very loosley defined. Fuck I want to be mining right now.

I'm going to spoiler my only complaint about the game.

Spamming elevators just gets you to the bottom way too quickly. Or at least the long elevators are way too cheap. At first I thought an elevator could only go down to 100, so it made me explore each level a lot more. Once I realized they can go down to 1200 (or whatever), I got to the "end" very fast. I guess it's more praise for the game in a way since I was quite enjoying the expedition and didn't want it to end so quickly.

I agree - I'd make the Elevators cost more depending on the depth and add an Express elevator option that auto takes you down to a given depth for a 10x increase on the cost of the original elevator. Once you get to 200m the cost of the elevators is negligible so you get to 1050m pretty much instantly.

1050m to 1500m was my favorite part of the experience though.

after I got the WBD, I started a new game, finished buying everything in the shop and proceded to dig back down to the WBD in one run with no elevators. Ran out of fuel at about 1300 and had to go manual from there. Great feeling of satisfaction though. Probably won't go back to the game much now, but I have a few incremental saves of my lovely mine.

I finally decided to try this out a couple of days ago and it is great. My mine is at about 700 meters now. I wish it was an XBLA game so it could get the exposure it deserves, but I will take it at only 200 points. I would have payed 800 for it gladly.

Not sure why a clone of an old DOS freeware game deserves anything.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread and for everyone recommending the game. I downloaded it over the weekend and it's the most fun I've had on an XBL game in a while.

Despite it being a Miner VGA clone, it's still worth the 200pts, IMO.

Miner Dig Deep is my favorite game on the Xbox 360, period. But I was wondering what kind of publishing rights Microsoft has for XNA titles. Would it be possible for this game to come to the iPhone, WiiWare, Steam, et al?

I know that I'd happily pay $15 if it came to PSN, but I think the odds of that happening are probably fairly low. :(

The game you quoted is itself a clone. A million of the things spawned after the success of Dig Dug in 1982. The timing of Miner VGA's release, 7 years after Dig Dug, seems to imply that is is among the many spawned from there. Heck, that's long enough that it might even be a clone of a clone.

Picked this game up last night on a whim, and played it for 5 hours straight. Once you get the drills and mine with the elevators it is so addicting. For 200 points it's a steal. Are any of the other indie games this much fun? I think I'm going to try out that golf course construction game next.

I realise this isn't exactly the thread for it, but I did buy Miner Dig Deep. I can't play the fucking thing because it HAS TO BE ONLINE? What the FUCK is this bullshit? :/

My 360 only goes online via my laptop by internet sharing, and it's only when I download things from XBLA.

This is total bullshit. :/

This is Xbox Live Indie Games. In order for XBLIG to get away with not being a part of the ESRB or other rating systems they had to make it so you're online at all times while playing them.

Mobile Phone games work on a completely different system worldwide, for some reason.

Regardless, I wasn't informed of this on the purchase page. If it was it was some tiny fucking print somewhere.

I basically have a game I can't play. I'm glad a good indie dev got some money but it's still bullcrap.

Yeah, this is the one thing I really can't stand about the indie games.

when this topic was bumped I assumed a sequel had been announced. I WANT MORE!!

I think it would be cool for there to be a couple towns/bases to explore way underground...

A sequel would be awesome. How about liquid to mine (like oil). Or natural gas. What about trying to support something on the surface with those resources. Geothermal energy? Aquifers? There is a lot of places this game could go, I really hope a new one is made.

Why would they need to do that? I don't know of any law requring games to be rated by the ESRB or be online-only.

This sounds to me like a way for them to cut off access to a game that you purchased if in the future they decide to pull it from the service. (For instance, if it were highly offensive and stirred up publicity that was bad for their public image.)

User ratings are incredibly favorable for Miner Dig Deep, and rightly so. Congrats to the developer! I remember the first time I tested it in PlayTest... and immediately saw something that appealed to the 'grinder' in me.

I would very much like to see a sequel, with more narrative and challenges. I've even considered contacting the developer to see if he/they need an artistic collaborator.

=( me too. I was thinking maybe an update even. /snagglepuss

Adding some kind of efficiency rating when you clear the game would go a long way towards increasing MDD's replay-ability.

Well that has happened before ("Break One Out" was a Breakout clone with close-to-porn in the background. It was taken off but those who did buy it can still play it, I believe) but it's probably not a big thing to get the ESRB happy, it's everywhere else. Places like Europe and Japan are much stricter on this sort of thing.

Well I mean is there an objective or end to the game? or do you just dig endlessly to find stuff.

I haven't gotten to any end yet, but you do upgrade your tools which makes finding stuff faster. The drills and elevators add a lot of fun to the game for me.

I REALLY wish this exact game/exact formula could be ported to some other platform. Since playing many MDD-like games on the App Store for iPhone/iPod Touch, none have been more engaging or well-rounded as Miner Dig Deep, so I simply cannot play them. :(

Was just sat playing this and I found myself wondering why. I mean, I've got maybe 10 games I haven't started, 20+ I would like to finish... and these are big name games I'm ignoring, not random trash.

But the answer is obvious. Miner Dig Deep is awesome beyond words!
