Soo you replace two iconic sidekicks with the most generic af looking characters as possible. O..K
I would be more inclined to be ok with it if they didn't look like generic pokemon trainer NPCs
Pokemon Origins is the best Pokemon anime production to date, though.
To be fair, they weren't really his mates in the game, they were just punk ass Gym Leaders.
Is Pokémon anime gonna go the multiple timelines route like the games? I already figured the anime was in itself a different timeline but I guess there are multiple times lines within itself
It's the 20th anniversary of the anime and movies, so of course it'll use Ash
No, Pokemon Sun and Moon is.
Guys, it's obvious that it's not a retelling. It's an alternate version with Pokémon from all regions in it. Why is this an issue?
It's not.
That's what people thought it was to be, but it's not.
Can you really fit an entire saga into one 90 minute movie? God no. Just look at the mess that is Pokémon Origins for that.
Wait isn't this the first movie with ho-oh in it? Or am I wrong?
It references Ho-Oh's cameo from the 1st episode & seems to be attempting to give resolution to that dropped plot point.
It has the 1st season theme song. A song that obviously makes people think of Season 1.
It has a number of recreated scenes like Ash's defiance of the Spearow flock.
Those are very specific & direct callbacks to Kanto League. The teaser & 1st trailer had absolutely nothing hint or suggesting anything more than Season 1 nostalgia. Fans were completely justified in thinking it was a retelling because that ALL that it was presented as before trailer 2.
it wasn't a plot point, it was symbolizing the call to adventure and the unknown. Thats entirely lost when Ho-oh is just a main character in the movie, so even the nostalgia part is wack imo.
Hope he gets the love he deserves in this movie! Was always one of my favorites. You are correct Aside from in World of Pokémon bits and Mew pretending to be one
Did Ash ever replace Misty's bike?
I am still way more interested that there seems to be an old man version of Red in this.
Brock and Misty's "iconic" designs are the worst those two ever wore. The new folks look way better, and fit right in with the franchise's recent look.
Now, if we were talking about the FRLG or HGSS designs for Brock and Misty, that'd be another story -- I'll grant you that those ones were cooler. But they wouldn't have used those anyway.
New rival as well.
Yeah what Nabae said! The rival and companion designs look very Gen 6/7. Kind of jarring seeing them with Ash and Nurse Joy, who more or less retain their season 1 appearance, right down to the style of their eyes.
New rival as well.
I'm totally down with this. I'm more excited now.
Although I myself don't understand why people are so upset about this since this is a reimagining of the beginning, I know that some truly liked Misty and Brock so it's obviously upsetting for them. But this isn't a 1:1 remake. It's almost like a reboot since we have new characters and all of the Pokemon from all gens are available here.
Maybe it's the final nail in the coffin for Pokeshipping.
Also it has more Ho-Oh. Already makes it better for me.
I would have said that's the boy while the third character is the girl.
Cross best rival?
It's "Cross" not "Warosu".
He even has the X.
You're overthinking it. This movie is likely to be a one off and the next movie will be back with the current anime narrative which has been going on since 1997
Well yeah. Lucario and Piplup are more popular than say Chikorita and Chimchar.what are they rebooting if its a one off? if kids dont recognize the original characters, what would the harm be to include them? wouldnt it be better to appeal to both the young and the old? is it because Lucario and Piplup are really popular?
Ayyyyyyy that's why Shoko-tan was tweeting bout Nurse Joy
New rival as well.
Lots of us here are older people and so we recognize and appreciate the older characters but the younger audiences grew up with the newer ones. Many joined in again with Black and White as well as Sun and Moon so they have a stronger connection to the newer Pokemon than say a person who played through all the generations when they were first released.
