Miyamoto on next Zelda for Wii: Link could not have the sword anymore! And much more.

i think by tomorrow morning you guys would have come up with an ending for this game already

The only acceptable ending is a flooding of the world because Link fails to show up to stop Ganon at the end because he slips into the twilight realm for midna and says sooooorry princess to Zelda. :p

I really, really dig that policy.

I mean, NSMB Wii is out this year.

Showing/talking about stuff too early can lead to TP/GT5 like problems.

Agreed. It hurts a bit, but I like how, in the end, when they hype train starts, it means the game is ready to come out.

I REALLY don't want any more Zelda: TP/Smash Brawl episodes any more.

NSMB Wii looks like a DS game...not that it's a bad thing..but I think the devleopment time on Zelda will be a little more complex.

if they were shooting for a 2010 release..we would have seen this in video form. Not to mention Galaxy 2 and Metroid will be the big games of 2010. Nintendo only has so many frachises. Considering how long it took them to finish Twilight Princess..I think we have a while to wait.

Twilight Princess was done as early as 2005. They simply sat on it to make it a Wii title they admitted as much just like they admitted they are sitting on Galaxy 2 due to NSMBWii.

Miyamoto said he wanted to show the game this year but it got shot down. Nintendo has the stupid policy of nothing shown unless it comes out soon
This.

And we don't know when SMG2/ MOM come out. They seem to only want to sit on SMG2 for as long as it takes for it to get out of the NSMBW blast zone.

If they plan to make this a xmax 2010 game than yea, they wouldn't show it now because of their new way of revealing games.

was thinking the same thing...it would save the need for a menu screen..i think.

"triple mind readers" I was actually thinking the same thing but different weapons and powers. I miss the magic attacks from OOT(but make them useful)

I loved the art style from Twilight Princess. With this one being a Wii exclusive, it will certainly be better realized graphically.
Me too. Twilight Princess certainly had its flaws but the art style was fantastic.

alright, i understand where people are coming from with the whole "the girl is the sword" deal, but i just can't agree. it's strait up the Queen of Faeries. the look is VERY clearly that. yes, there are some similarities in look, but at this point it's speculation. there is very little reasonable doubt the girl is not a faerie. keep in mind he ALSO has a shield. an older Link is a PROTECTOR Link.

anyway, i'm thinking
praying
that Miyamoto and Aonuma tackle between OoT and WW. would put some continuity with the Faerie Queen design and even if this character has a connection to the master sword, i doubt the sword = the girl. mainly because there's never been much of a manifestation in terms of persona for the sword. ever. i would think she's more of a guardian if she's directly connected at all.

Good idea, but leave the context sensitive at the door.

Someone on another forum is thinking that the sword can change depending on the situation or puzzle. And that you can gain new forms for it like getting new items in chests.

I wouldn't put money on that idea.

Look at the master sword again...its so obvious.

Well, we got no trailer or screenshots, but it's something i guess. But I would be very surprised if we DO get it in 2010. We know next to nothing of this game, not even the title. We will be very lucky to get anything around TGS i think.

Kewl. An OmniSword. If she/sword can change on the fly like that, it would create all kinds of possibilities. It's like Navi but to the Nth degree. Instead of all the "Hey" "Listen" audio cues, the visual cues would be more helpful. For example, in OOT, Navi changed to different colors depending on the situations, instead it would now be item icons or question marks, etc.

IF they actually ramp up the difficulty, this wouldnt defeat the purpose either.

This art looks fantastic and looks like the game will likely share the same visual style as Twilight Princess which I am happy about (don't worry, I loved Wind Waker to). I was worried that we might get Zelda: Fitness or some form of dumbed down Zelda but this artwork confirms that this isn't the case.

You're ignoring the fact Miyamoto said it's in a completely different era from the other games...I think the sword theory holds more promise

You guys making it sound like "The Master Sword" is alive. Could you imagine a talking sword like from the movie Who frames Roger Rabbit where bob hoskins holds that in Toon Town. That wouldn't fit in Zelda's universe imo.

Master Sword = Zodiac Sword from Suikoden confirmed :p

WZelda: Revealed at next E3 and closes the year off with Winter 10.

Wow she looks almost exactly like the Queen of Fairies in Wind Waker. Though it's hard to tell if her eyes are close or not in the picture. Maybe she turns into various weapons. I just hope to god they don't use her for stupid escort missions. Hopefully we get a trailer by TGS.

What is the source of this? Awesome artwork.

Did Nintendo decide to release it afterall?

It's from the Nintendo press site. Miyamoto felt pity on everyone for the small picture leaked.

The girl is clearly the Master Sword. Just look at her design. Her legs have the same cross-hatching design as the Master Sword's handle, the jewel is identical to the Master Sword's, she shares the same color scheme, and you can even see the sword hilt on her.

Interesting. Her face also bears the same look at Wind Waker's fairy.

Pikmin's probably coming then too.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
I hope this girl/sword idea now means they are further along than when they were at the TP unveiling, which had no hint of the wolf or twilight theme. 2006 -> 2010 doesn't seems a very reasonable timefreame to get a new Zelda game done and done good.

Nintendo seems to have this series on a four year cycle. 1998 (TOoT); 2002 (TWW); 2006(TTP).

Ah, pretty sure it will be because
Jason's Ultimatum said:
PLEASE god don't make the game look exactly like TP. I'll accept the artstyle, but give the graphics a watercooler or oil painting look.
That's exactly what I was thinking when we got the tiny pic last night. I'm thinking it's going to be like what Disney is trying to achieve with their Rapunzel project.

I'm done speculating. The girl's the sword. The player swings the sword and not Link. I'm sticking with that theory until the game is officially unveiled next year when of course it will turn out that the game is played just like every Zelda before it except the amazing departure for the series is that the weather in the game is determined by your mood when you stick your finger in the Vitality Sensor.

I think that Metroid will be the last game to come out, my guess:

Mario Galaxy 2: Summer 10

Zelda Wii: Holiday 10

Metroid: Spring-Summer 11

I bet the trailer for this game will be shown at TGS.

Why do people keep saying we'll see this at TGS?
Nintendo doesn't even attend TGS (oustide of setting up demos for DQ9).
If it's anywhere, it'll be at their October event.

Awesome they released it officially. I never saw the blurry pic, but even without that they should have released it publicly. Why reserve it for the likes of Matt and other game journalists?

So good job Nintendo!

And yeah, he looks early to mid twenties, as opposed to TP's teen Link. I like the girl's character design a lot too.

Oh yes, you could feed him, and carry him on your back, and when you swim he would hold on to you too. If you get wounded, the kid can take care of your wounds like pull arrows out!

And Link should have horns!:p
lol, yeah, well...there's a damn good reason fans don't have input :p I always imagined what it would be like if we got to see more of Link than just the "hero", what kind of guy he'd be, and how it would work for a game. Evidently....not very well.

I don't know how you did it, but you somehow made Wife-Kids-and-a-Mortgage Link into a workable game concept. Now do Horndog-having-a-Midlife-Crisis Link and Crotchety-Racist-Old-Man Link!
LOLOL *sigh* If only...if only...maybe on Family Guy?

I think it will be at E3 10 and not Oct. Mainly because with of adult Link which has more appeal in the west.

But the coloring style doesn't look like TP's realistic tones from it's concept art so it could actually look like something they think both east and west would like so who knows.

What's the source? I don't feel 100% on this still, could be fanmade. I don't think Nintendo would put something like this on an FTP server... unless they're truly opening it to the press or something.

Edit- Nvm.

Hrm, I can't say I'm disappointed that they didn't go with kid Link.

I think they're trying to make the kid Link for portables and adult Links for console separation.

We might get some more artwork if we're lucky enough.
