The Mets are intent on keeping my hopes up for as long as possible. That's nothing that losing 3 of 4 to the fish can't fix. Let's see if they're up to the task.

NL wild card is going to torture pretty much all the regulars in this thread. My Giants, your Mets, Musky_Cheese Musky_Cheese Nats, JareBear: Remastered JareBear: Remastered Rockies. Should be an interesting 2 months round these parts. Giants schedule is brutal but also nice because the teams we're playing over the next couple months are all in WC contention (Nats, Phils, A's, Cards, Rockies) so if they can't take them down it's all on them. I hate hyperbole and cliches but the Giants really will decide their fate with the remainder of the schedule. They can do some damage and leapfrog the teams into the final WC spot or they can sink back to playing shit baseball like I've grown accustomed to since the second half of 2016.

Mets are in a similar situation in that they have a lot of games left against the Nats and Phillies. HUGE series with the Nates this weekend.

On another note, Seth Lugo is an absolute monster. Somehow he partially tears his UCL and continues pitching, and somehow gains velocity in the process. And that curve is still as devastating as ever. Mickey's too much of a turd to change anybody's role, but with Lugo being so much better than Diaz right now maybe it's better to deploy him as their Andrew Miller style fireman.

If Familia and Diaz were actually any good this year, the Mets would be neck and neck with the Braves right now. Assholes.

This team. I'm not sure how to feel right now, as I had given up on the season not too long ago, but I'll be damned if I wasn't jumping around my apartment when Alonso hit that go ahead solo shot tonight.

The true test is right around the corner though. Let's see how they stack up against decent teams during this run...

Second year in a row, Bryce Harper playing like a $12 million player.

He got paid for one good year and that's it. Kid has always been regarded as the messiah but has never delivered. I'll never understand the amount of praise he gets to this day. Been in the show for 7+ years, he's not going to suddenly break out. He is who we thought he was!

I never got it either.

His MVP year was great and 2017 was really good too. If you prorated that injury season to 160 games/550 ABs the stats would be just as good as his MVP year.

Prorating this season to a full season of stats, his stats will be similar to last year, including another .250 batting avg. He's not improving though he's only 26. He'll have another line of 100 runs / 30 HR / 100 RBI / 10 SB / .250 assuming he doesn't get injured again. His 2016 season would be similar stats if he played 10-15 more games.

Good numbers, but not $25 million/yr for 13 years.

He's 26 and already seems to have plateaued.

Michael Conforto > Bryce Harper. Discuss.

Our bullpen has taken years off my life
They showed a statistic on the Mets broadcast; Doolittle has allowed 9 runs this season against all non-Mets teams, and 10 against the Mets. I can't believe they left him out there after he allowed 4 straight hits. Figured they'd give him one more batter after the Frazier dong. He had nothing. Was basically pitching BP. 4 runs on 7 hits, and only 2 outs, one of which was on a botched bunt.

There'll be a kind of symmetry if the same thing happens tomorrow in reverse, with Diaz playing the fool. Would not surprise me one bit. I'll just have to root for Mets starters going 8 most games with Lugo closing things out.

Where's that "New York Mess" guy? I think they're 20-6 since he last posted. I hope he never comes back.

Braves pen managed to hold a 5-4 lead for three innings today after last night’s debacle. Still made it interesting with a couple runners on in the 9th.

I haven't chimed in on this thread in a while (or kept up with my fantasy team - please don't hate me), but despite not loving the distorted power game of modern baseball, a sick part of me takes pleasure in the fact that my Twins may be the team to obliterate the team season record. The way things are going we'll probably hold that record for 1/2 a season. :p

Cal Quantrill going for his 7th win in his 13th start, to go with a 3.23 ERA Not bad, not bad...
Out of all the young Padres pitchers, Cal looks to be the best.

Tanking is brutal and bad for the sport. I'm happy the Giants haven't resorted to that.
How do you consider it tanking if the roster is legit bad? They had Machado, Jones, Schoop etc and still found a way to lose 100 games. This year's team is just AAA and AAAA guys who legit are just getting their asses kicked. Would be a lot better in the W/L column if the pitching wasn't so brutally bad. I want the O's to win as many games as possible, but I'm not upset if they get the first pick out of a hard to watch season. Of course all of this is implied if you believe the O's were tanking. You didn't specify a team, so I was only assuming. But I do agree, tanking is lame.

Still here. Nothing’s changed but the Mess beat up on some weak teams.

I’m still a fan, but also a realist.
I would have had a much better retort prior to getting swept by the Braves this past weekend. Funny you showing up NOW, and not BEFORE that series. Total coincidence I'm sure. :pie_thinking:

Absolute coincidence.

Wins don’t make the organization less dysfunctional.

And there you go again, pretending you know me and my motivations.

Sorry for the late reply, been hectic past week or so. The O's are tanking. They could have signed some players but they let everyone walk and decided to post losing seasons to try to get some high draft picks. Flip side of the coin is they had Machado, Jones, School etc... The years prior and had a winning ball club. They just lost a lot of young talent in trades as they were trying to win.

I just want to congratulate my Twins on setting a new single-season team HR record. (yesterday) They may or may not still have it at the end of the year, but the boys are slugging.

No worries, life comes at us fast.

And I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment. Who could the Orioles have signed coming off a 100 game losing season last year? They just had a top 10 payroll and loss 100 games. What happened to the Orioles was that their window of opportunity closed as the ballclub was getting order outside of Machado who wasn't signing here and Chris Davis falling off a cliff. The Orioles did the correct thing by blowing it completely up and starting over. Tanking is a real strong word to use here ESPECIALLY when they aren't even the #1 pick. They just cut the big contracts and aging players who won't do anything for the team going forward and see what they have in the organization during Elias' year one. These AAA and AAAA players are playing their hearts out knowing if they screw up, this is it in the majors most likely. Find it hard press to see all 25 men going along with the tank. They just aren't that good. And as we can see, they've kinda settled in the second half of the season. Not getting blown out 9 out of 10 games. But yeah, to me, tanking is a strong word to use here. A very strong word.

I know it's the internet so it's going to sound like I'm being a pretentious ass but isn't that what tanking is? If you make no effort to improve your team and completely rebuild, that's tanking. What is your definition of tanking?

Tanking to me is what the Colts did for Andrew Luck. They still had talent on the team when Peyton was there, but went into complete shutdown after his IR. The Orioles just suck because they aren't very good. I could go with what you highlighted IF the Orioles got rid of their high-paying talent just because. But again, they loss 100 games last year with a top 10 payroll. So what are they tanking if they were already bad? And this years free agent talent wasn't very good so I don't know who was on the market that was going to drastically improve the team. They picked up a few people who were released far as pitchers go and Andrew Wojo has pitched decently for the O's. But we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Tanking would be sitting your best players like Mancini, Villar, Hanser Alberto for the rest of the year and then trotting out Chris Davis who can't play anymore or starting Renato Nunez at 3rd because he's a liability.

He could win the Cy Young again, maybe this time with less than 10 wins. I think Kim has faded enough that he shouldn't be a legitimate contender. He's smoke and mirrors like Kyle Hendricks was a couple years ago. I think it comes down to deGrom and Scherzer again, though Soroka or Strasburg may have a shot. Have to see if Scherzer's missed time costs him. Oddly some of the trackers/predictors don't even have deGrom in the top 5 for the NL, which seems ridiculous.

The Mets are 10-18 in games deGrom starts, and 60-50 in all other games. Clearly deGrom is the problem.

How the fuck Callaway gonna keep throwing Diaz out there in high leverage situations?

He must be one of those fantasy owners that refuses to drop guys based on draft position no matter what (looking at you, anyone who still owns Khris Davis).

A month ago in one public league I dropped Khris Davis for Bryan Reynolds, Edwin Diaz for Taylor Rogers, and Domingo Santana for that Reds kid (Aquino or whatever).

Couldn’t be happier. Sometimes you just gotta cut bait. Someone tell Mick Callaway that.

Crunch time in the GAF Fantasy League! Myself and JareBear: Remastered JareBear: Remastered have clinched spots, and Musky_Cheese Musky_Cheese has all but clinched his place as well (barring a major upset from TrainedRage TrainedRage ). That leaves one final spot between R Rock And Roll , DeepEnigma DeepEnigma , and prag16 prag16 .

Balls Deep (DeepEnigma) and Hildawg 2020 (prag16) are playing each other, while Steinbenner (Rock and Roll) gets Vlad the Inhaler.

Balls Deep has been on a tear this past month (aside from a flukish loss to Synthstars), while Hildawg has battled back from a variety of injuries to key players to be in position to make the playoffs. Steinbenner is in the driver's seat with an off chance to take over the 3rd spot from Bear Backs, but could find themselves out of the playoffs entirely with a mediocre showing against Vlad. Should be interesting to see how it plays out, good luck to all this week!
