2K Sports announced today that the World Baseball Classic will be featured exclusively in Major League Baseball 2K6. The highly anticipated World Baseball Classic is a 16-nation tournament featuring the world's best players competing for their home countries or territories. The tournament will take place in March 2006 and gamers can now experience this unique event exclusively in Major League Baseball 2K6.

"The excitement is building for the inaugural World Baseball Classic," stated Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "International baseball brings a fresh new take on the sport as players from across the world compete for their home country. This new baseball experience will be brought to life for gamers to enjoy only in Major League Baseball 2K6."

"It's an honor to represent Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic," said Derek Jeter, All Star shortstop for the New York Yankees, Team USA member of the World Baseball Classic and cover athlete for Major League Baseball 2K6. "I'm excited to promote international baseball and it's terrific that gamers who pick up Major League Baseball 2K6 will be able to experience the same excitement of the World Baseball Classic."

"Highlighting the World Baseball Classic in the upcoming edition of Major League Baseball 2K6 makes perfect business sense for all the parties involved," said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President, Business, Major League Baseball. "The World Baseball Classic is going to be a winner and will highlight the appeal and passion for baseball throughout the world. The World Baseball Classic features the world's best baseball players, competing on 16 teams from the Americas, Asia and Europe. The tournament begins on March 3 and will continue through March 20, when the Finals will be held at PETCO Park in San Diego, California.

Major League Baseball 2K6 is the exclusive and only officially licensed Major League Baseball video game that will be available on every major gaming console, including the Xbox 360 and Xbox, the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo GameCube, and the PSP.

I was hoping for this mode though...hopefully you'll be able to swap players in and out based on their nationality. Then I can have Larry Walker play for Canada (he retired a couple months ago, which is a shame).

Cuba's participating in the WBC, so the team will be in the game. Real players other than those in the MLBPA? I doubt it.

I read on the 2ksports.com forum somewhere that the 360 version will be out a few weeks after the rest. Maybe 2.
