This thread would be alot better if you had some examples what you are talking about.

In "recent" history, I went through Wildhunt like 5 times, Blind playthrough, 1st DLC playthrough, 2nd DLC playthrough, completionist playthrough and just fuck around playthrough.

Skyrim can be played through nigh endlessly.

Gears horde mode is crack cocaine made digital.

Nier Automata basically forces you to replay the game.

I dont know how many times ive played Control.

Battlefield you say....i take it you dont mean the campaigns? Cuz beyond BFV which just wasnt that great BF1 and BF4 were some other shit.
I think I would put 5 hours per day in those game.(I had free time)

Spiderman even NOT doing shit you can plug hours into it.

So what games exactly are you talking about that have no replay value, so we can atleast have a discourse knowing where you are coming from.
Also 2 to 3 hours of game time per day is actually quite alot of game time per day for any adult.

Despite what other... obviously younger people in this thread that haven't touched a good game in there own life time never mind yours are saying, it's not you.

Its really easy to see, as games have moved at an accelerated rate towards rewarding what you pay and not the time you put into them your finding that stuff dousent compare. When you point out that alternative costumes or characters in fighters used to be unlockables and not sold as DLC they start braying on about entitlement, because there younger so they don't understand how 2+ decades of having something before suddenly dropping off a cliff can shape a person's view of content.

All it takes for you to realise this is one good game, for me it was Deep Rock Galactic. Once I played that it was utterly eye opening, its not me after all its the games that are shit. Just because so many these days don't have standards does not mean you don't have to, deep down they know it too, just admitting that would be admitting there idiots for buying into these things again and again, the sunk cost fallacy takes them sadly.

Its the right of the old folks like us to have a good moan, because quite frankly out stuff is always going to be better 😉
They wont understand the joy of working very hard to unlock an in game charecter. Doing insane challenges to get those extra contents.

One of the best thing I had fun is those cheat codes.

So for now, I am interested in indie games now. They bring those old games memories.

I'd say there's more replay value now more than ever. If you're on pc, mods add even more. Most games have a dedicated following generating mountains of content ranging frome shit to amazing.

Please dont compare the new spiderman to the old spiderman. Those games were much better than the new one.

I liked the way they portrayed peter parker. But the enemy fights weren't satisfying. The swinging was good though.

Good games are generally the ones that gets you lost in their world. Splinter cell pandora tomorrow made you use your brains, and punish you for your mistakes. The mortgage level was hard, if you waste your ammo on the previous levels.

The new games just let you regen health easily, ammo isn't scarce, and you can just do Leeroy Jenkins. You lose the interest, since there is no stake at all.

I think it definitely is a "been there, done that" situation, at least for me. It is so very rare to play a game and have it draw you in so much you do not want to put the controller down. 90% of the games I play I have essentially played them before since they are so familiar to other games.

I was there man, when BF 1942 came out, and played the crap out of it. Now? I skipped the last 2 and they look and sound awful.

I like them. I played hallow knight alot. Jumping platforms, getting killed. Same thing for dead cells.

Mods are the reason why I play on pc. I dont play skyrim without mods.

As I said could you give us some examples of your for and against argument.
You say modern games dont have replay value.
So list these games.
YOu say "older" games had replay value.
List these games.

Its hard to have a discussion when you dont know where someone is coming from.

I dont know what games you consider having good replay value and what games you consider NOT having good replay value.

There are still tons of "modern" games with replay value outside of just getting achievements.

I mean...
Stats speak for themselves
If it wasn't destiny it would be Call of Duty
If COD didn't exist it would be Battlefield.

Insane replay value.

Single player games however? Yeah those I wait until they are $20. Once you beat it....it's done...it's just taking up space at that point.

Forza 5, Total War Warhammer 3, Mechwarrior 5 are just the type of games that seem to have unending loops. It's a very 90s early 2000s sentiment. I love them. I easily have hundreds of hours in warhammer 3 and mechwarrior lol.

I know people hate the term 'satiafying gameplay loop,' but I find it totally valid. It's my top priority in any game. I want to be able to just jump right in and get to it. That's why I gave up trying all the mmorpgs my friends recommend (pretty with no gameplay). I don't want to grind to content. I want to be thrown right into it.

Tough discussion and I partially get where you're going at. Some modern games such as Ubisoft basically have 0 replay value and anyone who says otherwise is most likely a huge mindless fans. But anyway, not just Ubisoft, other big studios, pad or extend their games a lot more than back in the day just so ppl can say, yeah it's 50h it was worth getting this repetitive shit for 70 euros. Quantity over quality should NEVER be a thing in games however a middle ground is preferrable.

Immersive sims with open-ended maps like Dishonored, Deus Ex, Prey, you know, the genre that is dying, are the easily most replayable imo, games where you can tackle levels however you wish BUT not on endless pointless maps like Far Cry for example because that shit is too much and you get tired of it. Also rpg's with multiple choices and I'm not talking about boring generic jrpgs like Dragon Quest, but rpgs like Divinity OS2 are highly replayable due to the amount of decision and gameplay variation. These are still modern games but youa re right that we are moving to more open world stuff and it's a bit annoying. Theres also a ton of roguelikes but that genre is a hit and miss for me and I rarely enjoy it due to most being low quality but whenever a game like Hades pops up, I'm 100% in.

Still at the end of the day some ppl are just weird and will replay even the most unreplayable stuff ever made so it's hard to discuss this. I know a dude that just replays Vice City the original nonstop, like, puts his own music, and just does dumb shit in for months and he thinks all modern games are boring, so yeah, some ppl are just....weird.

Havent finished them. Been busy playing other games.

Okay, then there's 6 (7 in February) modern games with incredible replicability you've yet to tackle. Statements like "modern games are shit" look a bit silly when you're missing entire publisher catalogues of the best modern games. Sure Fromsoft is a specific example and not everyone will like those games of course, but if you own 3 From games and still haven't finished them once it seems weird to lament the lack of replayability in modern games.

Just because there was 7 good games this year, doesnt excuse the shit games we got.

... 7 games total from Fromsoft, not in one year. And it's a pointless argument, there's piles and piles of shit games every year in gaming. Some of them were so bad they broke the industry.

If you're spending too much time replaying old games to even find and finish any modern good ones, the problem isn't with the games, is it?

We get shit games every year. Nothing has changed from the 80s / 90s / 00s in that regard. Trends rise and fall, series rise and fall, nothing has changed except you got older.

OP, I get your point, most AAA big budget games are shit with almost no content and lots of padding, specially those developed by the likes of Ubisoft or EA.

But that's not all there is to modern gaming. You have indies, which most are a throwback to older games, but also cool new games with lots of content and replayability.

For example, I replay Metal Gear Rising almost once a year, since it's a no padded, short and sweet fun as fuck experience. And you many titles like that, for example DUSK, Furi, DOOM Eternal, DMC V... Lots of them.

Why would I replay old games in the first place, if the new modern games have replay valuable? That is the problem. The fact that I am replaying old games, instead of new games, shows the state of modern games.

The soulless of the game, the lack of making the game interesting, the intrusion of mtx, locking good content behind paywall. Making the game a chore to play.

Your soul games have a soul. That is why people replay them.

I found this video inspiring. I don't really have the same interest in games, but here is someone who is quite old but is having associations we had with games for the first time as younger people.

But you haven't even beaten any of those Souls games once. Complaining that games aren't replayable while not even finishing them once makes no sense, the situation is the reverse of what you're saying it is. If you know you enjoy them, and you already own them, and you're telling me they have soul why are you replaying old games instead of finishing those..?

And that's just a specific example, you can't physically have even tried half the games available today to say what you're saying. I'm going to bet if you listed the last 10 modern games you beat it'll be obvious why you're saying what you are.

Have you played Returnal, Metroid Dread, Hitman 3, It Takes Two or Psychonauts 2? All interesting games, with soul, some of which are massively replayable and all released this year. And those games are just the AA-AAA games off the top of my head.

If you aren't finding modern games you enjoy, you aren't looking hard enough.

You want hilarious, modern funny shit game play then get a gaming pc and download a bunch of indie games off Steam.

Stop playing Ubisoft or EA AAA games and think they represent the entire state of the industry. The problem is 100% you.

I agree with the feeling. Games try too much to be super long, and not enough to be simply fun.

Older games had this charm of being so fun you would actually replay them. I replay some games every year because of this...

Seriously who wants to replay a campaign?

You know what's gonna happen and you've seen it before.

And yes I have the same opinion about movies and TV shows.
Yeah I'm pretty much the same unless a year or two have passed and even that is no guarantee I'll play it again. I generally only replay Rockstar games or a Battlefield games.

I played hitman 1 and 2. I cant play returnal because I dont own ps5. I havent even bought metroid yet.

So how does that invalidate my opinion? The games that i have played since 2019 havent been close to what I played in 2010-2016.
