Modern Warfare 2 map removed following complaints from Muslim players

exactly...which makes sense why they might feel offended. but it literally is meaning the same thing for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. its just 'God' in the arabic language. majority of muslims aren't even arabic.

i'm not saying the translation is wrong, i'm saying that quote itself is not from the muslim prophet.

Pretty sure it is a Quote from the prophet.

The thing with using God is that it could be also refering to a human as some do say God and refer to Jesus. Also God have the female form of Goddess and Allah doesn't have such a thing.

I don't think Acti meant anything by it, they(game industry) seem to always put random arabic and Quran in games and can't tell the difference between the two.

Now to understand the quote isn't difficult, beauty doesn't necessarily refer to big tits, blonde hair, and blue eyes but instead a reference to the way, actions, and ability of something. How about beauty in terms of charactor, not liaring, stealing, or deceiving etc etc. Here's a link for those who actually want to have some insight.

good day

Video games have a history of censorship. Wolftenstein 3D's Nazi symbolism depictions constituted a crime in modern day Germany. Subsequently, examples involving the portrayal of blood or its likeness would become part of a theme that would be deemed grounds for the circulation of the title to be prohibited in not only Germany but also Australia and Scandinavia – setting a global precedence where other nations signalled their intent to follow in banning video games they deemed tasteless. Pham and Sandell (2003) pointed out countries like Germany, for example, whilst prohibiting certain imagery of violence on the pretext that it was inappropriate or harmful for the young audience, and yet permitted the use of nudity and potent sexuality in the same games “reflect the distinct cultures and traditions of different markets”. This applies to the entertainment industry as a whole, not just video games.
You should take a closer look at the situation in Germany. While the swastika is only allowed in certain context, it's much, much more complicated with violence, even to a point where what you wrote is just not true.

Here's how it is: Games in Germany have to get an USK rating in order to be sold and advertised in public. Some games don't get that USK rating because they're deemed to violent, for example. That doesn't mean that these games cannot be bought in Germany but only that you cannot advertise them (cannot put them on a shelve). Any store could have them stored away somewhere for people who specifically ask for the product. Publishers want to avoid that, they want their game to be on shelves so they cut specific content or make some changes. It's a bit more complicated but that should do the job. :)

Very, very few games are actually not to be sold in Germany.

The same market research carried out by publishers into how much sex can be shown in one region and how much blood can be shown in another would also point out the cultural sensitivities surrounding the depiction of religious symbolism in e.g. the Muslim world.
Should you not get to look at a swastika in your version of the game simply because the German government feels uneasy about the symbol? Because that's what's happening here. It's not a special version of the content for people who are offended but a special version for everyone because a few are offended.

It is only removed in Germany. (afaik)
Nah, it's in the German version of the game. You cannot shoot the civilians, though.

I find it interesting this is the game with the airport massacre scene and that caused a huge stir and activision didn't give a fuck but a texture in a map 3+ years later gets a quick reaction out of them.

I can understand whey they are upset but picking that out of a game that has them running around shooting people in the face, stabbing people in the back and then dropping bombs on everything, seems a little off. If they are worried about the content of a videogame, should they not be taking the thing as a whole?

I don't see how this is an overreaction.

The toilet is an extremely sacred place to me, so to use one as a platform for pushing Allah on people is downright disgusting.

A little late, huh?

I wish companies just had the balls to just say, "Fuck you. Deal with it" and not give a shit. This isn't being sensitive, this is caving into utter stupidity.

Seriously. Bitching about something incredibly small from a game that's nearly three years old? Get over yourselves. Also, did they forget that this is a game where you murder other human beings? Oh, that's fine, but some inconspicuous poster somewhere on a map, is somehow, a big deal. I mean...come on...

The point I was making is that what is allowed to be shown in games is dependant on the cultural sensitivities (their taboos) of that society and because each society can have different taboos, you will find that what is censored to differ in each market.

It's never too late. Paging my hindu buddy to complain about being able to shoot cows in Resident Evil 4.

I get that. Though the problem only really exists because people want others to act because their worldview is threatened, and that's crap. Especially when people feel like it threatens their religion. These crybabies should just get over themselves.

Didn't you hear? They may boycott it.

I find it amazing that these guys can take a map out of rotation cause a few people complain but can't add in controller support for PC that people have requested for years

I don't see anything wrong with the decision to remove the texture. Sounds like some designer thought he was being witty by adding in the quote, but when the news reached the publisher and the higher ups at Activision, they requested for its removal since it was never their intention to have something like that in the game in the first place.

I did have a good laugh at that video though.

I'm offended that the map I paid for isn't available for me to play anymore thanks to offended Muslims.

Activision please remove offended Muslims from my game or I'll boycott it :p

Maybe they can add suicide bombers to even it out?

And now i probably offended someone.....

"Want to be offended all fucking day? Join a religion. You will have earned the right to be offended 24-7. One fee for all: your soul."

Why can't they... remove the models in the map?... is it that hard or do they have to completely take out the whole map?

They're probably just going to repaint the texture and update the map file. If they didn't rig up the engine to control those objects being spawned or not (like Halo + Forge can), then they don't have any other choice.

they are taking it out, but they are removing the map while they do so.

It will be back as soon as they change those picture frames to regular picture frames.

Yeah, I should have read the whole OP before I posted. (I think that's ban worthy? Lolz).

Either way, it's fucking retarded. I'm sure most of you know I'm a Muslim myself. I'm 100% sure they didn't do this on purpose, but instead thought a frame they found was pretty, took a picture of it, then imported it as a texture.

Seriously though, they play a game with 10 people being killed practically every 5 seconds and they take offense in a mistake?

Come on kids. Get it fucking together. I'm tired of these loud mouths giving my religion such a bad name.

The picture isn't IN and it's a VIDEO GAAAAAAME.

It seems a little late to be complaining about this now, other CoD games are out so everyone has moved on. When i first saw the video about this i thought it was a joke, guess not.

How is that was offensive? You was shooting mostly non-russian citizens in here after all. I don't see reason for Russians to be offended by that mission.

The nationalities of the people you kill in that mission are never explicitly stated. I would think that there are plenty of Russians in a Russian airport dude. Plus, you know, in the mission you kill Russian law enforcement and security that are just doing their job.

I don't think they need to go as far as removing the map from rotation whilst they fix the texture though.

^Spoilers brah, you kill
those Russian dudes
in COD? Man, I haven't finished any of those games.

Remember, the Muslim community buys Black Ops 2 as well.

"The whole earth is a mosque except the graveyard and the toilet."

It's a big deal and good on Activision for taking action.

If some overly sensitive Muslims want to consider a video game to be a toilet that's fine by me but then they shouldn't act as if they are able to play a disc covered in shit.

HUGE mistake by Activision to give in to this, it sets a dangerous precedent that will only encourage other religious fundamentalist to look for things to be offended about and make a scene over it like the attention whores they are.

No one is complaining, when you kill tons of Germans that are just doing their job during WW2 games. :(

Not just dudes, we're talking about the mission in the airport where you kill women too, masquerading as a terrorist.

It's basically try-hard levels of offensive, but that level will stay in the game for "artistic integrity" while the allah reference or whatever will be removed. Bullcrap.
