Most offensive or asinine things you heard in college

Can't think of any examples myself that fit the topic, so I'd like to know your experiences.
However, whenever I think of college I am always reminded of this particular incident in a sociology course:

We were on the topic of sex and one guy contributed by saying that after he and some other men ejaculate, sometimes they lose their libido and don't feel affectionate. Unfortunately for him, the class was mostly women, and they erupted in rage when he got his last word out. One woman next to me was calling him a "faggot," "piece of shit," and all sorts of names. They took offense to it because I think they thought he suggested that once men get their pleasure from women, they toss them to the side, which can be true because I've heard disgusting things from guys, but this certainly was not what the guy in the class was trying to convey.

I can't tell which party in this story you are accusing of being asinine.

I said a pretty stupid thing in sociology once - I thought black people genetically couldn't have blue eyes. I had never seen it and I thought I had read that somewhere. I felt bad about that one.

Around the time of the election I heard sooooo many white males talking about voting Trump because "you can't trust Hillary" and things like that. In NYC! Ugh.

"we should kill all gays"

The guy was from a conservative country (and I don't mean the US haha). The professor handled him like a champ. Not by tossing him out or screaming, but with perspective and bringing out discussion as to why would he think that. That professor is awesome though. Way out there guy that is borderline nuts in the head with a mouth fouler than a sailor, but a heart of gold.

He would be banned immediately. Definitely not a GAF type. You have to know him and understand that he's sort of a shock jock in the way he presents himself, but if you just bumped into him on the street you'd probably think "that's a rude piece of shit. How in the world is he a college professor?" Best part is that one of his classes are about "ethics and the media" hahaha

I said when I think of college I think of this incident, and I prefaced by saying that I don't really have an example that fits this topic.

Damn, those ladies surely picked on you. Meanies.

Who said they picked on me? Also it's pretty shitty that you think the behavior I described was appropriate or not a big deal, especially when the student was speaking factually for himself as a male.

"I don't understand why we spend so much money on prisoners on death row. Why even bother with lethal injection? Bullets are cheap. Can't we just shoot them in the head?"

Said by

In psychology class, a Christian guy would always raise his hand to speak during the weeks we studied sexuality. He was adamant that gay people were less mentally sound and prepared for the world and that was the cause of them turning gay. The professor stopped letting him speak because not only was the professor annoyed by how it was all false, but because the kid was clearly trying to undermine gay people specifically.

Some people on this forum will argue that was repressing freedom of speech. How would they feel if someone in your class was trash talking your race, sex, or sexuality and calling you less than normal (not you specifically, hypothetically)?

What organization protects your privacy in regard to health care?
a) HIPPA
b) HIPAA
c) HIPPER
d) HIPEER

I don't know how this teacher has a job. Only been around a few years so no tenure and a 1.3 on ratemyprofessor.
I was very offended that this bullshit pops up on a final exam in an IT class. You really couldn't come up with something actually related to the course to put on he exam? They give me a form about this shit every time I see a doctor what the fuck kind of class am I paying for here?

Edit: I want to clarify that health care industry IT was not a part of the curriculum. Everything in the class was literally babby's first excel spreadsheet, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. If we had actually talked about the details of different IT professions I wouldn't be upset about it.

Not really offensive, but I had no idea there was this stereotype that women aren't supposed to be good at math and science. Growing up Asian-American.. all of us are expected to get As or we got our asses beat. Girls weren't exempt and I remember the AP and Honors math classes being fairly even among the genders tho I wasn't really paying attention.

So imagine my puzzlement when I met an old high school classmate in college and she told me this when I asked her why she decided to be a Communications Major.. Could have sworn she was in my AP pre-Calc class so wtf is this~ Then I went to my first programming class and saw what she meant. The sausagefest was odd.

I overheard a random guy on one of the campus busses say "Somalis are just violent people".

Also, some dude in class was talking about how he got a new Toyota, and this other guy goes "I would never get a Toyota". The dude was like "why?", and he goes "because it's not my heritage" lol.

Oh, and there was a crazy old dude on campus who would yell about how everyone was going to hell.

"Wait, China's not a continent? Then what is it?"

Reminds me of when I was in 11th grade. I told a classmate my heritage (Serbian, Romanian, etc.), she asked me where those countries are, and I said Europe, to which she responded, "what's Europe?"

Yup.

First week as a freshman, was in English class. Girl to my right was talking with someone and she said "I'm not racist but the black people around here make me afraid. I'm just not used to seeing them." I guess she was from out in the country or something.

I can't remember anything specific off the top of my head, but the preachers who stood in the quad probably would take the cake. Women wearing pants or short skirts were sluts and going to hell. And then dumbass students would go around shouting at them, giving them the audience they were craving.

First day of Uni some introduction speaker said "don't aim for firsts (A grade basically) because employers aren't looking for people who are too smart".

The dude was like a special motivational speaker brought in specially by the uni but such a dumb thing to say.

Just one of the many Christian nutcases that post up in the quad and lecture any passers by on how there's a hell and we're all going there. It never fails to gather a crowd and start an argument.

Idk if it classifies as offensive but it bothered me. Some girl in my literature class took the classes attention when she was asking a question and started relating it poorly to her father sexually abusing her. Felt like shit. I could only imagine how it was probably cathartic for her to talk about it as candidly as she was but holy shit was it random and not something I intended on hearing that day.

Professor of History "I mean...not all the jews were innocent" "The Civil war was never about slavery" "When talking about MLK it is always prudent to remember that while he was a inspirational leader he was also an adulterer" "Things like Rap music and music videos have set back the advancements of black civil rights by decades."

Adressing me directly: "What kind of retarded mexican are you? dont speak spanish? I asked you a question in spanish why didnt you answer?"

Im puerto rican...and no...I dont speak spanish.

When I raised questions to other faculty members I was told. "Leave her alone she has polio" when I spoke to a higher up...I was waved off for trying to discriminated against a handicapped professor. I just transferred to a new class after that.

Had a classmate in class that was supposed to be getting us ready to becoming Special Ed teachers legit ask why he couldn't list "retarded" on a student's IEP when referencing their disability... The teacher had him stay after for a very long discussion that essentially boiled down to "You're an idiot, don't come back," but in much more professional words. He kept coming back but never asked questions in class after that.

Econ professor said capitalism was good 😂

If that was the entirety of the discussion on the subject, then yeah, pretty asinine. If there was more to it than that, though, not really sure it counts.

Went on a date with a girl during a summer internship. I had just gotten back from studying in London and I was telling her a bit about it.

"So what language do they speak there?"

"In London...? England...?"

"Yeah, what language did you have to learn?"

"Um...They speak English."

"Oh well that's cool! You didn't have to learn a new language!"

If you work in anything medical IT (huge field), it is a good thing to know. Failing to comply is usually grounds for immediate firing.

Sounds perfectly fine for a question in a fundamentals course.

I studied political science, so you can imagine. My one class was actually divided across political lines. Wasn't a project or anything, just how things worked out because of the daily, and I mean daily, arguments.

Some girl said we should make drug addicts get "forced abortions" once. That REALLY set folks off. People were literally yelling so loudly that a professor from the department came in and asked if everything was okay. Pregnant woman got offended by a comment about people shouldn't have babies if they can't afford it, cried and left the room, came back 10 minutes later and argued some more. I just sat quietly in the back of the room and read my Kindle every day.

Some dude said lesser gifted or less smart students should be held back (not special needs, just average students even) so that the best students can get more attention.

It pissed me off a fucking lot. He said a shitload of social darwinistic things, it was kinda gross
