GiB Article:

Australian games site Press Start reports that Microsoft's Australian website no longer lists the Xbox One or upgraded Xbox One X, instead only offering the cheaper Xbox One S and the upcoming next-generation device Xbox Series X.

Press Start also claims to have confirmation from EB Games and JB Hi-FI, both prominent retail chains in the region, that the Xbox One X has been deleted from their systems, preventing them from ordering any more stock.

UK newspaper Metro reports both Amazon and major US retailer Target have labelled the entire line of Xbox One consoles as discontinued.

A browse on Amazon US shows that various retailers have marked the Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition as discontinued. Some bundles remain listed as normal, although these almost always have limited stock left.

Exec comment:
A Microsoft exec has already confirmed that the Xbox One S has not been discontinued.

"We just changed SKU numbers," he added. "Amazon is just messy in how they show products."
This comment ignores:
- The X1X was the discontinued system, not X1S
- The three independent US and AU retailers also showing it discontinued
- Their own website delisting the system
It's also a very weird problem to have just now on Amazon given how many SKUs every company has had, and I've never heard of it causing problems (you can just create a new SKU number and delete the old one).

This is what MS usually did. They outright discontinue their old hardware.

They are like parity accross their ecosystem. Fine and all, but they are going to want to sell you Lockhart, a new release, for it. Likely not the One X. And the One S, well, that one is done either way.

I hope this shit isn't going to impact third party development. I don't want paired down games simply because it needs to run on weaker systems as well.

I remember being an original Xbox owner when the 360 released.

On the day of the 360 release, THE EXACT DAY, every single OG Xbox console and game was removed from all my local stores. It was crazy. Just the used section remained.

It's still the fastest cut-off I've ever seen in gaming.

Xbox One X will be discontinued sooner than later you'd think as it's ditect replacement is the Lockhart Series S.

There has been a total draught of first party content for all Xbox consoles for quite some time so the writing is on the wall. I'm surprised anyone is still buying them tbh.

It’s cause they wanna push all resources to make their next gen system look good lol
They did it with 360 as well. 360 had 1 good exclusive in 2013 (gears) while ps3 got gt6, last of us, ni no kuni, beyond two souls,God of war Ascenesion etc.MS strategy is to look good early on and then rely on third party lol
Let’s not even talk about what went down this gen....

And? why do we get so many dumb threads nowadays?
1) Some people may still be interested in getting an XBox One
2) An exec used misdirection to address complaints
3) This flies in the face of MS supposed continued support for the XBox One family

Still, maybe don't click on threads you don't consider important

It's not his fault someone hastily updated a nothing article with a quote plucked from somewhere else not even related to an interview based on the article. Maybe the shops ran out of stock and arent ordering any more so just labelled it as discontinued because it's expected? They've basically repurposed a couple of quotes, drew conclusions and then discredited their own conclusion lmao.

Pro-consumer move.

In all seriousness, If I were the head I would discontinue that shit quick too and push the Series S full stop. Then again the way they're going about marketing and the way they want to support it is just another head scratcher for me. But hey.... it's what it's.

Old hardware is discontinued when new hardware is released. It's not exactly new practice. They must think there's enough stock in the supply chain to fill any gaps before the new stuff hits.

They will support existing Xbox owners. Did you think that meant that Xbox Ones would be on sale for the next 8 years or so?
