My roommate turns the shower off and on two to three times during his morning routine

He takes such a long time in the morning, I regret any day I don't get there before him. When he's in there I hear the shower go on and off multiple times. What the hell is he doing in there?

Sounds like me I stay in the shower for far too long.

It's like the ultimate meditation.

Turning tap off and on is weird though

He's being a good person man.

Saves water, and money.

He wets himself, then lathers up, and then washes away the wash/soap.

Seems pretty normal.

Ask him. I'm sure it's not too big a deal that he would get offended(assuming you guys are friendly).

I always turn the tap off when I'm adding shampoo or soap. The I turn it back on to wash it off.

Is that weird?

Let the water flow over you, turn it off, lather you hair, turn it on, rinse, turn it off, soap yourself, turn it on, rinse. You're clean now.

Saving water.

My gf and I do this on occasion when the hot water's running short.

Edit, also not kidding: sometimes without fail, the urge to take a shit hits me in the middle of a shower. I have to interrupt my shower, hop on the toilet, finish business, and get back to showering again. There have been stretches of days my body waits for me to be in the shower until the ure hits, no matter when in the morning I do it. Irritating.

He lathers up, dude. You don't need the shower running for that.

He's lowering your water/gas bill in doing so.

The fact that this is not common astounds me. You can wash your hair or soap up without having the water running.
I understand wanting to keep the water hot if it's cold but if it's not winter, you can withstand.

They're called "military showers," usually. It's just a practice to conserve water.

My dad made me take them as a kid. We have no military history.
