Log on as administrator and change your wife's password. Then log on to your wife's account. And i do belive there is still the orginal administrator account, you just have to turn your computer on safe mode then you will see the administrator account.

Assuming it's just a windows laptop then simply downloading ubuntu and booting up should work as the liveCD will mount the windows filesystem and let you snoop around all you want.

If all you want to do is just browse her My Documents folder, burn a Knoppix DVD and turn the PC on while the disc is in the drive, it'll let you browse, but not edit, an NTFS partition
