My Wii U experience thus far is REALLY starting to bum me out :(

I don't know how NSMB U could lack soul. What's the definition of that? How do you describe it? I think it has more magic than most games.

I think it's a wonderful game.

I could definitely understand selling a console if you were really tight on cash and had to put food on the table (priorities obviously), but to sell a video game console and re-buy it again only some 6 months - 1 year down the road never did make a whole lot of sense to me.

It makes perfect sense. I basically "rent" consoles from time to time. I waited until the PS3 was $249 to make my first PS3 purchase. I rented the games I wanted to play, finished them all and then resold the console for over $200. I don't collect games (I very rarely buy games) so there is no point in holding onto it.

I do own and love my 3DS though. It's a great handheld. And yes I do buy games for it but it's about the only system I actually own any games for.

And I totally agree with some people are NSMBU...total crap. I played through the first little bit of the game and just turned it off. Felt like I had just played it after playing through NSMBWii and NSMB 2 on 3DS. I sold it off as fast as I could. I wish I would have waited on the Wii U like I did the PS3.

Everything, including the Mario games, can be milked.
The same thing over and over again gets tiring, no matter how good it initially felt.

When people say a game does not have soul I'm guessing what they mean is that they felt no attachment to the characters, story or premise. The music and visuals must have been disappointing and they might of felt like they were just pressing buttons not playing the game if you know what I mean.

Basically they did not have any fun,

I dunno, I've always wondered when people say that what it means.

I cannot wait for buyers remorse threads for the other two next gen consoles. If you can't handle dry spells don't buy any console within its first year. Man, can someone bump some of the old 3DS threads.
the difference is the other 2 will get third party games to fill in the blanks lol

Was considering purchasing one at launch but nothing enough to make me bite.
Recently decided to go 3ds (2nd hand unused) with 13 individually purchased awesome games and was the cost of a wiiu barebones package. Wrapped about 3ds and vita combination to spice things up. So many games now and on preorder for both devices + digital content.

Kinda pays to research & or wait when buying. Buy a device only if you deem it a satisfactory+ purchase.

I'll be playing Battlefield 4 on my PS4 with my friends.
That should last me a while.

what 3rd party games are on next gen for the first half of next year?? There will be a droubt no doubt, the worsed thing i can see happening is cross gen games by the boat load eurgh!! I'd rather not have them

I play mine every day, but then again I have monster hunter and it hooked me. Oh wait...You have monster hunter!! what are you worrying about! you will have good news within 4 weeks.

Better to have cross gen games rather than no third party support.
Right now I own a PS3. If I buy a PS4 (which seems like I'm going to), and if BF4 or CoD:G cost $60 on both consoles, I'm going to get it on PS4 (assuming noticeable performance/content increase).

If I don't buy a PS4, I can still play them on my PS3, without missing out on much. However, if I owned only a Wii U, I'd be missing out on a few great games. AFAIK BF4 isn't coming out and the last CoD didn't really have much of an online presence.

I feel like people who enjoy a lot of games but only own a Wii U are in really bad position. However, if they only want to pay Nintendo games, or only game part time, then its not a problem.

Holy shit!

I literally went to sleep the moment I posted this thread. Woke up and went to work. Am now slowly catching up to everything...

Pick up ZombiU, it is the best game on the console right now, then play your other systems until the Fall when the big games hit. You're welcome.

I hadn't played any games on it in a long time, but I've recently downloaded Need for Speed and the Rayman Challenge app and now I spend at least an hour or two with the system a day.

I do agree that the system's initial months have been pretty shitty so far, though. I expect things to really ramp up during the second half of the year and onwards. Nintendo just needed to learn how to do HD development, and that took longer than expected.

Ninty had to just learn to do HD development?

We've been in this gen for almost 8 years now. Wii U got a 3 year headstart and they fucked it up.

My feeling with the NSMB series is all the same, no matter which version I'm talking about. They all have some incredible platforming in the last third of the game, but I have to spend at least 1/3-2/3 of the game playing abject baby shit just to get to it because Nintendo thinks difficulty curves must be at "pathetically, offensively simple" forever and simply does not have a good feel on when tutorial mode should be ending. And it's not just the challenge that suffers until that point, it's the creativity. Until that point, we're typically treated to the same boring themes, characters, enemies and gameplay nuances... even occasionally some of the platforming challenges are merely remixes of what came before in the series. Then it's like they get it out of their system, you start seeing those streaks of brilliance and wildly creative approaches to traditional platforming gameplay, and then the game is suddenly over and you're like 'why did you stop? it just started getting great!'

I was told - over and over by every Nintendo fanboy ever - that Super Guide was supposed to be the mystical golden gun that allowed them to ratchet up the difficulty much sooner while allowing less skilled players to pass challenging segments. Instead, it still takes forever to get challenging and I'm damn near falling asleep by the time it finally gets good.

And most of my complaints above are all before we talk about how it has one of the worst fucking soundtracks ever produced by Nintendo, let alone a platformer, or how the visuals are fucking cloying, low-effort shite made by fucking interns. They finally started improving some of the background art and layering in Wii U game, but they didn't even go remotely far enough. Again, it's like they just dipped their dick in the well of breaking free of the mold before Miyamoto punched them in the gut for even considering such an offensive act.

So, yeah, I don't consider them worthy of much praise. Because if I have to spend 1/3 or 2/3 of a game playing shit, then I'm cutting off 1/3 or 2/3 of your score. Just the way I work.

Nailed it sir. You and I are one

I originally played Sonic Racing on the Wii U and thought it was good, but it was only when I played the PC version later that I realised just how woefully terrible the Wii U port is. Compared to on PC the Wii U game is tired, slow, sluggish and choppy. It looks like the screen has been smeared with grease, detail is lost because of the low resolution and "fuzziness" on the screen and the frame rate is horrendous; both in terms of being 30fps (if you're lucky) and the frequent drops that seem to go way below 30.

That game is the perfect example for me of the "Why not have both?" thing when people talk about gameplay vs graphics and performance. The core game is such a blast but the Wii U version actively suffers because the performance is so bad. I know PC outperforming consoles isn't exactly new news but I found the performance of Sonic Racing on Wii U to be entirely unacceptable for a console released last year.

I feel ya and people shitting on the Vita version should actually play it. It's an excellent port that, if you can past the scaled back assets/effects, (It still runs native runs though, which you can't say about the Wii U and 360 versions) and focus on it's pure, portable gameplay, it's probably the best one to own next to the PC version.

Stopped reading right there. Vita version doesn't look anywhere near as good as any of the console versions. The Wii U version is the definitive version.

That's your opinion and I can respect that. That being said, Wii U is NOT the definitive version. If you look at the following aspects anyway:

- Runs SubHD. Struggles to hold 30fps in many maps
- Has a small ass community in comparison to 360/PS3 versions, so have fun finding players. Vita version has this problem though too
- Gamepad features are more or less useless outside of 5 player gameplay, which is a wash since the framerate in that mode tanks anyway.
- No Trophies/Cheevos if you care about that sort of thing

*whew*

Still catching up...

I dunno man.
I'll be playing Battlefield 4 on my PS4 with my friends.

Monster hunter exists

Eh, I agree but it won't be anything substantial. If anything those 3rd party games you're talking about won't come until 6-8 months in. Best games of a generation come mid-tail of the gen no matter the console.

I did the same thing just could not get into it same old thing! waiting for 3d mario.

It's kinda funny to hear some of you saying how you traded in your U shortly after launch or you haven't used it since then. I'm curious as to what you expected when you first bought the thing. I heard someone say they played Mario for 12 hours and haven't used the system since November. We knew stuff wasn't coming until February (at least that's when Pikmin was slated for, give or take a month, along with Rayman) and yet you still went and bought a system.

It's like going into a shallow pond and hoping to catch a marlin.

Have not purchased a retail game since I bought it at launch with Zombie U and NSMB U. Cant remember the last time I played either.

Last game I played was Super Mario World VC. I only use it for netflix and basically am just waiting for the better titles.

Have accepted I just have to wait for the good shit and thankfully I got it for £199 @ launch via amazon.

Already put far more hours into it then I did with my PS3 (got that in 2008 IIRC and sold it a few weeks ago)

Proper good console.

Check this out, OP. I bought the damn thing and I don't like Zelda, Pikmin, Mario Kart or Smash. Man, the Wii U is such a bummer for me. What's really getting on my nerves is that basically every game I own, that was not done by Nintendo, performs terribly. Micro stutter, low FPS, missing Animations - just all around awful.

It sounds like you've sold most of your Wii U games. So the only thing left to do is to sell the console itself then you wouldn't be bummed out anymore stuck with a useless console.

Sadly yes, I've sold most that I've bought to date. I'm keeping Lego City and as I said, Lego Batman 2 comes out this month along with Deus Ex.... which we have yet to actually see footage of running, so that's sort of weird. I've tried to support the damn console though! hehe

After that, yeah, I'm moving back to the states anyways, so I don't I'll be touching the thing for a month or two as it is.

Game stores in the UK have removed the WiiU from the walls and put it on a centre-aisle island unit - where the bargain-basement PC stuff and DVDs used to go. Basically, condemned it.

Only truly defnitive, superior port of any 3rd party game has been Need For Speed Most Wanted U (rest is subjective or preference).... but that fucking thing freezes more often than a commercially bought product should and, as I said, I'm selling that shit back.

I feel like you should never judge a system after some months, you should wait 4-5 years for it, then you can judge the library of quality games and stuff like that.

4-5 years?

This shit needs to stop

It's a product that consumers payed for and rightly had certain expectations. Nintendo was shortsighted and basically are now getting what they deserve. Customers shouldn't be willing to accept the corporate message of, "Hey bro, buy our shit anyway and just, you know, be patient and shit!"

You know what I cant wait for? The 3DS style flood of games where we start complaining about how we have no time to play all these games.

That's already happend lol
No complaints. System is rock solid and yes, Nintendo bought A LOT of goodwill with me with both the Ambassador program and the price drop. Still embarressing though that they're still selling OG 3DS systems that scratch your screen.

NFS: MWU has never froze on me. I played it tonight for an hr and nothing happened. Odd it is happening to you because the game is awesome.

Deus Ex isn't coming this month. No release has been given, I believe. The game handled pretty nicely at PAX East, from what I remember.

I think it's a wonderful game.

Maybe it has good level desing but thats it.. but this is the reason why it does not have much of soul...

- Same music with new map themes.
- Same bosses with different move set.
- Same Graphic style with little improve.
- Same worlds with little difference.
- Same monster.. Yeah there was new ones but not much.
- Same playable characters.. Mii characters was new but lame..

I would go as far as saying it is fuzzy even compared to the PS3 version, which to me looks perceptably crisper. You're right though, the PC version is unquestionably the definitive version of this game. The resolution bump is nice, but it's the framerate that really sets it apart: 60fps is exactly where this game should be.

That being said though, I still find the console versions completely playable and I would have been disappointed if they scaled back the visuals because it is such a nice looking game. The answer is clearly that we need more power. I wonder if Sumo could have at least achieved a locked 30fps and 720p resolution if they were more familiar with the Wii U hardware - maybe there will be a sequel and we will find out.

I think some of you guys are missing out on NSMB U co-op (would have been a great online title). Either way, some of these stages are still pretty challenging, and I think the game looks really nice mixing the NSMB style with a little World. Plus the new enemies are cool.

I could have used some new music, although I really like the boss, beach, new main theme, castle, and volcano themes.

Ubisoft and Michel Ancel effectively made NSMB coop null and void with Rayman Origins/Legends

Seriously, NSMB coop is awful and the antithesis of fun.

NFS: MWU has never froze on me. I played it tonight for an hr and nothing happened. Odd it is happening to you because the game is awesome.

Yeah I read it's pretty hit or miss for people. Oh well :(

Wind Waker U but any hopes for this to become a norm are vain.

Don't have a Wii U but if there was a REmake HD or RE Zero HD I would consider getting one. If they finally did a RE2 remake for Wii U I would buy one. They need to strike that deal with Capcom.

Are any of you planning on buying Revelations if it turns out to be the definitive version? So far all I see that might be worthwhile is that in May, Game and Wario in June, unless Nintendo shocks us with some major e-shop stuff surprises in July, there is Pikmin in August.

I want too, but am skepticle in how it will translate into a full-blown console game. Like I said in other threads, I wouldn't be suprised if it get's a lukewarm reception to those who didn't already play it on 3DS, where it was a lot more novel at the time.

i get OP, but a lot've that i kinda put on the usual year-one drought. PS3 was just as bad for me, but by that next holiday season, the party started. i'm counting on that here as well, gonna be feeling just like AgentOtaku if that's not the case.

i'm currently bummed out to discover that apparently hooking my WU into my XRGB mini upscaler won't make the wii games look nearly as nice as if i just hook up said Wii into it...kind've like how GC video from a Wii wasn't as nice as a native Gamecube over component, etc.

such a pain...man between this & Dolphin, you really gotta work to get nintnedo shit looking as good as possible.

Not sure why you even bought it but great games will come.
Personally i thought NSMBU was brilliant. Nothing comes close in terms of platformers. It just gets better and better the longer you play it. Especially if you collect starcoins.

I also love playing Lego City Undercover with my son. My surprise gem of this year thus far.

But thank god it's not my only console. Cause right now there are too few quality games.
I bought it for Wii-U exclusives.

I never had a freeze by the way.

Biggest complaint is the loadtimes of the OS... Even after the update that greatly reduced loading times i still think it should be a lot faster.

edit: still need to dive into Nintdoland a bit deeper. From what i've played it was fun.

The fuck????

come at me

No seriously though, what's so great about it? The physics are balls as you WILL fustrate the other player at some point or vice versa. The benefits to it are that great

And releasing a "Pro level" video on your damn YouTube channel every week isn't a convincing enough arguement. Your average family (not QA Intern/developer) will never play the game like that.

Like I said, play Rayman Origins, which is like $20, instead.

It's fun. You'll try and assist, sometimes you'll get it wrong and end up fucking over the other player, that's fun.
Sometimes you're aim is simply to fuck over the other player.....

It's not all about winning all of the time....

Otaku i have Sonic Racing Transformed on WU, and it's great...i just wish it was easier to unlock characters like the last Sonic was.

But thank god it's not my only console. Cause right now there are too few quality games.

this is doing it right - i safely buy Nintendo systems early on because they don't usually shit the bed with the hardware, and there's always shit i want that's only there

but you'd be insane to only buy their system

After buying Wii on opening day it was going to take a LOT for Nintendo to convince me I should do that again. Needless to say I'm glad I didn't.

I play it almost everyday and I love the shit out of it.
gamepad gaming is like heaven.

but you'd be insane to only buy their system

I don't get this sentiment.
I have "only" a Wii U and a 3DS in action right now and I am perfectly fine.
I was never a huge PS3/XbOX360 gamer though. I don't really like most "grown up" games

This basically. Though I still haven't learned from buying their first vision of a handheld.

Well I'm pondering the purchase of a WiiU. I know I'll have fun with NSMBU and maybe even ZombiU. I intend on going back to finish my original playthrough of Super Mario Galaxy. Those along with Super Metroid and Super Mario World should keep me busy for quite awhile. I'll pick up Wonderful 101 whenever that arrives. At which point a few other major titles will be announced/released.

Even if I somehow manage to speed through all of those games before anything else is released I still have Fire Pro Wrestling Returns and Demons/Dark Souls on my PS3.

I feel bad to those who aren't finding enjoyment out of the system. But I know whatever amount of money I spend on the system I'll get my money's worth and then some.

I'm still puzzled as to why anybody bought the thing.

Coz its a great system? Sure, it only has one CoD and "lol no games" (I have 12 discs and a bunch of digitals) but Ps3 will never have Zelda, Mario, Pikmin or Bayonetta. (I own 3 discs for the Ps3 and a bunch of digitals I gotten through Ps+). The Ps3 also doesnt surf the interwebs, the WiiU is interwebsProCertified.

But, but, but IPad!? IPad aint got shit on WiiU couchsurfing. WiiU even handles porn better then the pad.

That poor PS3 is wasted on you :(

I can't agree that the Wii-U is a better web browser than the iPad. I used the browser once or twice for novelty and then went back to using my iPad every time.

Nah, any system that plays both demon souls and dark souls deserves to have moneys Thrown at it :3

Edit: The IPad is good but uncomfortable. Like the 3ds. Using the sticks for zooming and scrolling is great, not to Mention having a movie playing on the tv while I continue to read on the pad.

Yeah, no way. Imo nothing beats browsing on an iPad right now.
Especially since it's isntantly on and you can start browsing right away at any given moment of the day at any place you want (in the house or outside if you have a contract for that).

No, you didn't give a lot of great games on ps3 a chance it seems. Or you are extremely limited in your taste in games.

That's what taste means. I've had a PS3 since launch and the best *exclusive games on it generally aren't disc based games.

I buy multiplatform games on PC.

i am hearing all kinds've shit for the first time today

The only reason we have a wiiU is for monster hunter, and even then it can't do that job well. The bloody gamepad constantly tells us its lost connection to the console even if its point blank. (I'm guessing I need to return the bloody console to nintendo to get it fixed)

I love the controller and with the soft cover, feels so good in the hands. But I haven't even gotten to really make use of the touch pad playing monster hunter.

Just like the wii; It'll be that console you sometimes hook up to play that random exclusive that comes out every few years.
