You have to redeem the code, you don't have to spend the money.

Edit: Okaaaay, never mind. Despite not having purchased anything on it in months, the message containing the credit was sent to my PS3. Guys, be sure to check your messages on all your consoles if you think you haven't gotten it yet.

Once the money is in you wallet it NEVER expires. So don't worry and save it.

Edit: By the way, there are several sales on the store, plus a 10% discount on anything you purchase.

I got the code in my email and I didn't log back in after downloading my purchases. It also appears in "From Playstation" on PS4 when you log in as the US user.
