Namco COMMITS to PS3 support

Fuck official :)

I was playing Time Crisis 4 and a dude in a trenchcoat from Namco Amusements U.S (i forgot his name) starting talking to me about what I thought of the game.

For the record, it's fucking excellent.

Anyway, i started asking him questions and commented that they spent quite a lot of money on the CG, considering it's only an arcade title and if it was to make to the home market, the light gun market for PS2 is dead (especially in the U.S).

He then said "It's not coming to PS2. We're bringing it out with the PS3's Europe launch (where TC does the business)." Then I nearly shat myself and asked "When is that exactly". He said "Sony isn't really sure, but it's looking like Spring next year".

I asked about a few other games, said "thanks" to the kind gentleman and he carried on his merry way.

I *love* it when info like that just falls in your lap.

They should have called it 'Frame Unit City Killer'. Then they could've been the 'FUCK' team.
Just like how Pro Evo could have been 'Pro International Superstar Soccer' (Piss).

Come on now, if it's ACTUALLY a bad word it's not as funny imo. Saying the Xbox360 got FCKed by Namco is much funnier. :D

maybe not with FUCK, but if someone told me they work as part of the PISS team, I'd find it hard not to giggle. I seem to recall a game which had the acronym CUM. That would be a funny team to work for also.

Unless they have another Ridge Racer to offer me, I couldn't care less what systems they do or don't support. I've never found Tekken more than marginally entertaining, which isn't helped by it's lack of online and my lack of fighting game savvy friends. I'll also never touch another Tales RPG, no matter how pretty the next gen incarnation is. I spent fifty hard earned dollars on Tales of Symphonia and was served up the most bland, ugly, and unfun RPG I've had the displeasure of playing all generation. (with Jade Empire in a close second)

Not really a big surprise, but c'mon Namco come out with some more original content.
Like FCK or Love Football or Critical Velocity or Urban Reign or Death by Degrees? No please.

Better to stick to Ace Combat, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Tales, Katamari... :)

Yeah, my guess would be Ace Combat, Tales, who knows (Baseball maybe?) and Tekken. Surprised there's nothing there for Ridge. Think the 360 version's tanking made them reconsider about releasing it at PS3 launch?

What if Sony is planning to release a Gran Turismo game at the system launch? I know that's what Polyphony is aiming for. Maybe things went like this:

Namco: "Ok then, we are going to launch with the next RR as usual right?"
Sony: "Hmm... you could, but you are going head to head with GT I'm afraid"
Namco: "Oh shit. Ok can we release it for 360? Is that a problem for you?"
Sony: "Nah, it's ok. Just keep Tekken on the PS3 'cos we don't have a in-house fighting game yet"
Namco: "Sounds cool. Ok"
Sony: "Cheers"

They recently announced a PS2 baseball game that's due later this year. So that might knock a baseball game out of the running for the PS3 sports game. I'm personally hoping for a new Smash Court.

Possibly, but then they never should have abandoned the Playstation userbase in the first place with RR6. Like Xbox fans want to play a PSP port (not exactly a port, but the game style is similar), when NFS MW and PGR3 are available at launch.

Namco should have taken the extra time, fleshed out RR6 more, and sold it to the fanbase that actually buys the games in the series. RR PSP sold extremely well in every territory.

Wait...what?

I don't like GT games but this would be a major Megaton...! A new GT game for PS3, with online functions to help push Sony's new online service? It *almost* makes sense.

Are you sure? Last year Kaz told Auto Klub (a European car mag) that he hoped to have GT5 done in 2007. Unless VGT is actually real...

If that's what they are aiming for then I would expect it a year later.

Yep. But who knows. That's what I'm hearing from different sources, but you know Polyphony: they always want to do a lot of things but usually manage to do half of them.

Exactly :lol

SolidSnakex, I'm not sure of anything. I'm just reporting what I've heard. I'd be surprised if they manage to realease a GT game so soon, expecially considering they haven't abandoned the PSP and the PS2 platforms yet...

Polyphony'll never have a GT ready for launch. It wouldn't make sense anyway, they need to wait until there's a larger userbase. Trying to grow one with an AAA title that early just doesn't make financial sense.

I could see it being VGT (the version the showed at TGS), but I don't know how it'd be possible for them to build GT5 that quickly will all the improvements Kaz wants. An online VGT with those 20+ cars would rock though.

New RPG = tales of xxx
New Shooting Game = new time crisis
New Sports Game = ridge racer 7 (racing = sport)
New Fighting Game = tekken tag 2

all launch games!

Absolutely true. But this doesnt diss the chance of them releasing a quick 'port' with some added extras. Sony still needs to offer a racing fix to their early adopters I presume.

I don't think they'll waste the time. Weren't they supposed to do that for PS2 and then they ended up delaying and releasing GT3, maybe it was cause they were going by GT 2000 or something, I dunno. Anyways you won't see GT until next year probably but if anything EA will fill the racing void and maybe some others. I wouldn't count Ridge out and hopefully WipeOut, I haven't even played WipeOut PSP but I felt the love they put into and I want them to spread some of that to PS3.

Yep, but the PS2 was a bitch to program for. This is not the case with the PS3. I think that the very fact that they tried this already with GT2000 gives some credit to the rumors.

Indeed.

That Gran Turismo online disc laying on some table in Sony HQ - spruced up & bundled in free with the PLAYSTATION 3 Entertainment System. :D

They gotta make Tekken first then mod that engine so it's gonna be 2007 hopefully. Does anyone know if the SC and Tekken teams are seperate? Seems like there is a lot of overlap and that's only gonna increase next gen probably.

Hmm, I just read an eyewitness account saying that the PS3 version of Ridge Racer 6 looks substantially better than the X360 version (because of the "impossible" deadline Namco had for the launch). If true, good thing, because I'm not shelling out for launch RR unless it has some "wow" power.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Can you tell me where you got this quote from?????? I need to know what their plans are for the Ridge Racer fanchise

Nothing really surprising here.

Most Xbox Japanese support not made by anyone named Itagaki, has been mostly pure shit. Then they want to know why their games won't sell on Xbox.

Namco should have taken the extra time to bring out a force feedback steering wheel for fanatical fans such as Isamu. They really shot themselves in the foot by not doing so.

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with this...

I want Ridge Racer 7 with an Arcade History mode like PS2 Tekken5 that includes
System 22 arcade versions of Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer 2 and Rave Racer.

until then I will not forgive Namco for canning the PC version of Rave Racer (along with Air Combat 22) without a word to say

Simple...

PlayStation 3
-Tekken: Dark Resurrection
-Time Crisis 4
-World Stadium 6
-New Xenosaga

Xbox 360
-Ridge Racer 6
-Frame City Killer
-Love Football
-Tales of Harmonia

Kinda pointless to continue Xenosaga in general since the team has fallen apart and the scenario writer isn't working on the series anymore.

IPs jump teams all the time. Look at Tales, there's 2 dedicated teams within Tales Studio making new installments, likely a 3rd porting team, Namco developing games on the side, Alfa System with Narikiri Dungeons, tons of mobile games from who knows where... doesn't matter if Monolith's in shambles and the creator long gone, Namco will just continue the Xenosaga brand themselves. It's too valuable to just let die off.
