Need tech help: Getting "Invalid URL" occasionaly for random websites.

For awhile now I've been getting this kind of error:

Invalid URL
The requested URL "/", is invalid.

Reference #9.8cc21508.1251069229.0

It pops up for random websites. Just now I got it from http://www.imdb.com. I'm pretty sure it's something wrong on my end. Possibly something wrong with my router or modem? I'm using a Linksys WRT160N v3 but I'm hardwired in because I haven't gotten my wireless set up for my Windows XP 64 partition.

What kind of things could be causing this?

DNS error? Do you auto-obtain DNS or do you put in a manual DNS in your TCP/IP settings?

Try an ipconfig /flushdns ?

When these sites show up with that error, can you refresh and they come back or always these sites continue showing as invalid URL?

Check your trusted or blocked sites, lower security? Scan computer for malware/virus' etc etc

Edit: Try plugging your computer to modem bypassing router entirely and try above options.

Edit2: Can you ping those websites in a command prompt by their IP address or domain name?

tried that. didn't fix it. again, not isolated to my PC. also on PS3. For other websites like timewarnercable.com I was getting redirected to a wikipedia *does not exist* site that I also got on my moms iPhone.
I got something else on the Xbox site when I tried going to Marketplace. Something about the website not found or no longer existing. It started working after a little while.
I had a friend of mine try to go to imdb.com and he can get to it.

bah. i don't know why i didn't try that. didn't even think of that.

yeah it worked when i plugged right into the modem.

then when i went back through the modem it stopped working

i knew my modem was shitty and I've been having tons of problems with the wireless. bah. looks like I;m getting a new one.

Any recommendations? I already have a wireless N card in my PC and my mom had an N USB adapter.

It's my DNS. I changed it to 4.2.2.2 and it works now. bah.

I was confused by your reply, you said you plugged to modem it worked, then you said you plugged back into the modem again it failed? Did you mean router or was it actually the modem?

Edit" The way you make it sound, I think you meant the router
