strange ban for vfx, wanting for more particle effects on the pc gets you axed?

that's less holier than thou argument, more optimism and preference for power ...

He’s trying to do better lately, but he has a long, long history of being disruptive and obnoxious. I remember just saying how much I loved the PS5 unveil, and how great I thought the games looked. I believe I may have said ‘next-gen’, which triggered him, and I got a snotty laugh like on the comment.

His experience is invaluable, but his behavior so often is not. Like the banned comment. What does that add to the thread, besides trying to antagonize? I’d be all for it if he brought up how excited he was for the PC version naturally, but instead, he quotes someone answering an honest question, and tries to pick a fight.

It’s dumb. The guy has the most amazing work history, and has probably been a part of all your favorite movies, and has so much insight to offer, but insists on offering it hand-in-hand with some really childish behavior.

A long haul flight from wherever you are.
Listen. I've briefly looked over your history and I can see the issue you are actually having. You are putting your work experiance and technical knowledge way ahead of your social skills and rile people up. You lack self awareness calling people that disagree with you Sony fanboys is going to have them come after you more. Just ignore them.

Starting a topic and then tagging in all the mods at the end of it demanding they mod your topic is arrogant. The mods are not your personal army.

Seeing as you mentioned Era, I checked your long ban history there. There's a running theme and you got permabanned for bragging that GAF was better and yet you found out the grass is not greener on the other side. So what's the common denominator here? You.

Calm down, stop being so authoritative, work on your social skills.

Is he French? He's sure acting like some French people I've known.

So I don't know all the details about what happened with VFXVeteran VFXVeteran , but I have seen recent posts and have looked in his history. It sucks as he's always been bum rushed and mass reported by a certain group of people due to not liking the content of his posts. It's not like he posts inaccurate information or anything, as matter a fact, most don't like him because he hands out hard to swallow pills.

Most fanboys are deep in the war, rooting for their favorite plastic box every chance they get, as it's a natural thing to do for fanboys in their environment. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you are open for a discussion. Only problem is, it stops being a "discussion" when it's a one sided discussion. Most of these fanboys would make personal attacks on him and his character, etc. Hard to really discuss anything at that point.

He would keep it mature and not resort to personal attacks. And to be honest, if I were vetted, I wouldn't be able to keep my composure, constantly having my name dragged through the mud, because I stated this or that fact.

The problem arises because he is in fact vetted. So it's hard to even have preferences, because a certain subset of fanboys hold their plastic box over every other plastic box (and aluminum/glass box for that matter). He could provide endless scenarios as to why things are rendered this way, or why bandwidth matters, etc. None of that matters, unless he's praising these fanboys plastic console.

Everyone who doesn't like him could easily ignore him, but instead they try and bait disagreements, by launching hordes of attackers his way. Maybe he could have been a bit more tight lipped about how Nvidia's 30xx Is stronger than ps5, or why unified ram isn't as good as PC configuration, or how SSD isn't a replacement for the GPU. If he had just never started these facts, he would still be here right now.

But if he did, we wouldn't have insight on certain things, or discussions dissecting how things work, or why x,y,z is important in the rendering pipeline. Hopefully he comes back, and just ignores the hardcore warriors. I'd love to read more analysis of technologies on this forum, especially with the launch of consoles right around the corner.

And guys, let's try to not be dicks. I may disagree with some of you, but I'll try to never personally attack people, as it kills any possibility of a mature conversation.

The problem is that level of arrogance, that idea that what you say is "factual". To his credit when the 30 NVIDIA cards got unveiled he admitted he got things wrong, like an argument you're still stuck on about SSD's aiding GPU, the 30 series cards were specifically made to function more like the PS5/XSX architecture because the SSD DOES help the GPU's performance. I don't know if he warranted this ban, like I said he actually conceded a point you're still arguing recently, but going through a person's post history to see if they deserved a ban isn't the entire picture, without reading the context and without knowing everything occurring behind the scenes you're just seeing their posts in a vacuum, even going that far would be too much work for me, personally. Better to just trust in the mods on this and I think they can figure out when someone is being dogpiled unfairly and when someone is behaving poorly.

I know VFXVeteran is diehard PC fan, but I feel like he was banned for nothing. People who reported his post must be really butthurt.
He had a whole long run of bans over on Resetera for the same behavior, to which he finally got banned for claiming that "This place sucks, Neogaf are true gamers that understand me". Yet, here we are again.

I could see why people feel he was arrogant, and I could sorta agree to a certain extent. It's like being a renowned scientist, and arguing that the earth is round, to a flat earther. There's factual evidence to prove the earth is round, but flat earthers ain't hearing that shit. He could easily just shut up and leave them believing what they want. But several try to attack his character, so instead of leaving, he responds to these guys with factual data and no personal attacks.

I could see the mods getting fed up with people mass reporting him for offending their offspring (console of choice) without actually being offensive. You're right about post history, as that's not the whole story. But from what I can see, I don't think it warrants a ban. Maybe thread ban him, etc. But again, I'm only looking from the outside in, so I don't have all the info the mods do.

But I do feel that if he gets banned, those who personally attack him should definitely be banned as well. I've seen a couple that constantly follow him around in threads, just to insult him and shitpost his quotes. I guess you could say it's a two way street, I just feel like one side got blocked off, when the whole road should be blocked off to be fair (for lack of better words).

John from Digital Foundry getting dogpiled and attacked off the forum was a real thing. All he did was try to be as genuine and accurate as possible, in bringing knowledge to people, never inciting or anything.

It really bugs me to see VFX and supporters insinuate this situation is the same, when VFX constantly, actively tries to start so much shit himself, or will be betrayed by his fanboyism, and make completely wrong observations about something like Horizon 1 PC being more next-gen than Horizon 2. Yeah.

There are definitely people being dogpiled and attacked here for just trying to inform. Gavin Stevens was another one aside from John. VFX trying to huddle under that shield is a complete joke, and decredits everyone involved.

So, where does all this ego come off from in his posts? I don't want to be presumptuous but does he think his career prohibits him from getting banned on NeoGAF (or any private owned webpage for that matter)? That's like when Gold members think they can't get banned. I've seen it happen plenty of times (including GamerNYC prior to his melt-down thread). This also shows that the mods don't have favorites for consoles, PC, or users in particular. It's about maintaining an environment which benefits the gaming community by well-thought and researched threads and considerate commentary. Half of the banned comments are the kind of arrogant material seen on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms. It just doesn't belong in a gaming forum.

I have criticized VFXVeteran for myself in the past, but he was behaving now. Banning people just because they want PC version is just ridiculous.

maybe his running history paints a different picture, but a ban for that kinda post is silly (he even praised the game down the line w / screenshots)

i've not seen his disruptive or obnoxious behavior, can only comment on my own experiences

The thing is, that game is headed and confirmed to PC already, so it's not like he's port begging. Wasn't offensive or anything.

As matter a fact, the guy comes from the movie industry, so he knows what it means to have "pixar like graphics". This relies heavily on strong AA, AO, SSR, RT, LOD, and a while host of effects. Preferring PC because that's how you get the highest fidelity, isn't a sin, and that's what he looks for in games. Not just strictly a choice of color palette or art style.

By the way, not disagreeing with you at all, more so reiterating your point.

Okay, let’s break this down.

Really impressive. There was talk that maybe we wouldn't be seeing really fast boots at launch so this is good to see.

Is this a PS5 exclusive?
Someone wants information. Is asking a question about whether this is a PS5 exclusive.

This is also available on PS4, but PS5 uses much more graphical effects, more NPCs on screen and stuff like that.
LED guy takes up the answer, and provides an informative reply.

It's also available on PC. Can't wait to see the more graphical effects over the PS5. :D
VFX quotes the reply, ignores the question, provides info nobody asked for, and gets into a game of oneupsmanship with the PS5, for no reason.

If he’d simply said in his own separate reply that he was looking forward to seeing the visuals on PC, nobody would care. Add in a pages long history of stupid warring behavior, and it’s blatantly obvious what this is.

Cant believe i'm sticking up for him, but i feel the ban for Thugnificent was a little harsh. His Pilotwings gif for what the XB1 version of Flight Simulator would look like, well it made me laugh, and was done in a banter like way, not the bitter way many Sony fanboys come accross like with their baiting.
Also VFX should of got a warning imo. he gets a lot of flack and he seemed to be bantering more than anything. Plus if he gets banned for that, then half the people in the next gen thread should also be banned.

Apart from that, all good work as usual mods :messenger_beaming:

He is one guy that gets continually mass reported, dogpiled, insulted and harassed by a certain subset of fans that don't like the truths he lays down. I don't recall seeing Xbox or Switch fans coming after him with pitchforks. I can see how that might make him somewhat hostile towards those people.

Interesting coincidence, that same set of fans are the same ones that drove John from DF off the forum and harassed the hell out of Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens .

Gavin tried to offer insight about how a feature of Xbox worked, on Twitter. It was incredibly helpful, and not targeted at anyone. By the end of the day, people were attacking his credentials, his indie studio, and him, for absolutely no reason.
It was how he went about it, and his history of trolling here and on Twitter engaging in console wars. It wasn't for "no reason." The information is out there in the next gen OT and Twitter for the better part of last winter on. It's not even close to the same as John.

ITT, Xbox fanboys, PS fanboys, and PC fanboys making excuses for stupid behavior, in several different arguments, and guaranteeing it continues. 👌

It’s not so much about the truth, but how the truth matches the agenda, right?

No, he built his reputation up trolling the next gen OT for months. The instance does not exist in a vacuum.

Not saying the dog-piling is right, since people should judge based on the time, but he was not "innocent" like John in that regards.

Yeah, we should totally push back on mods trying to clean up users shitting across all of Gaming side, and self-explanatory posts and histories.

(Not meaning to be harsh at you, but the general sentiment here)

If excuses are made for poor behavior, those posters will latch onto it, as opposed to learning from it, and that poor behavior will continue, which is bad for us, and bad for them, when they inevitably get banned again, maybe permanently. It does nobody favors.

Then enjoy the fruits of your efforts when posters run free for constant, stupid drive-by comments and instigations.

Post history matters. Intent matters. Comments that aren’t blatant warring, but subtle jabs to get around the rules, matter. That applies to several arguments going on in here at once.

The receipts were linked and available at the start of the conversation, for anyone to read.

I’m saying that you’re reading the latest receipt with a good heart, and an expectation for good intentions, where such intentions do not exist, as well as not reading the rest of the receipts.

Plus, you were previously locked out of a thread for escalating rhetoric over a similar argument to what VFX is saying here, but without the trolling, and I agreed with you. I highly doubt this isn’t personal for you.

Btw, I guess I’m going all in on unlikability today, but I simply speak my mind. Hopefully none of this gets taken too personally, and we (several users) can move on from this in an okay fashion.

nothing wrong with disagreeing here or there (i read what was linked earlier, doesn't seem adequate tho we may diverge on reasons why)

nothing personal and your likability factor remains, points are all well taken

Okay, let’s break this down.

Someone wants information. Is asking a question about whether this is a PS5 exclusive.

LED guy takes up the answer, and provides an informative reply.

Why am I mentioned here? I don’t understand.

Speaking of the one arm rambo.

I think in certain situations regarding members who are very active on the forum should have a trial before permban.
Maybe a voting system a jury etc. I still think people can change can get better but they will only do so under the spot light.

I also feel many of these perm bans are just a quick reaction from mod based on some previous notes on the account.

Just a thought.

While that sounds good on paper, it wouldn't work on GAF. Imagine preferring nintendo, Xbox or PC, and getting a ban. You'd have no redeeming chance because of the sheer amount of salt mines from a group of fanboys.

At the end of the day, we all have preferences, but there are some that can't see past facts, and that kills the enjoyment of discussions, hobbies, etc.

I ment members who are mostly decent but slip here and there.
I would never care for mrfunsocks but there are fanboys who otherwise do contribute in their own thread in a positive way but fuck up when they enter the forbiden land.

Maybe after this embarrassing exposure they would stick to home?

Can't say I like the temp ban of VFXVeteran. He gets a little overzealous about his love for the PC platform but I really don't see that as ban-worthy? He simply wanted to see what the game would look like on PC as it would probably look better. No real lies there. Oh well, maybe he'll cool off a bit when he gets back.
