So after getting this idea from playing copious amounts of Town of Salem, I decided to drag the game here. Aaaaaaaand then I saw a similar thread to this was made a few years ago -- but that's okay! I'm planning on this to be more based around ToS anyway. But yes, let's get this started, shall we?
So I'm sure most of you have heard of either Mafia or Town of Salem. If you don't, then here is a brief synopsis:
"Mafia, also known as Werewolf, is a party game created by Dmitry Davidoff in 1986 modelling a conflict between two groups: an informed minority (the mafia), and an uninformed majority (the innocents). At the start of the game, each player is secretly assigned a role affiliated with one of these teams. The game has two alternating phases: one, during which the mafia may covertly "murder" an innocent, and two, in which surviving players debate the identities of the mafia and vote to eliminate a suspect. The game continues until all of the mafia have been eliminated or until the mafia outnumbers the innocents."
Now this is where some of the online game, Town of Salem comes into play. Town of Salem is loosely based on Mafia in the sense of good vs. evil, and it DOES have mafia roles. However, in Town of Salem, you have a lot more than just the Mafia to look out for. You have to deal with things such as witches, arsonists, serial killers, werewolves -- and of course the mafia. There are over 30 different roles in Town of Salem, but to prevent TOTAL chaos I have crunched down the role possibilities to 14. (There can be more than one person with the same role btw) I will now post a brief introduction to what each role is and what it does. The three tiers of roles are Town, Mafia, and Neutral. As a Townie your goal is to win by killing/lynching all the baddies. Mafia's goal is to rid the town of both townies and neutrals. Neutrals, well, they just win by themselves. lol
Bodyguard - Protect a person of your choice each night. If the person you are protecting is attacked, you and the attacker will die. You also have the opportunity to vest up and protect yourself for a night, but only once!
Doctor- Heal a person of your choice each night, saving them from death. Similar to the Bodyguard, you have one opportunity to heal yourself instead of another player -- use that ability wisely.
Mayor- Your lynching votes count as if three people were voting. However, that ability only happens if you reveal to the town your identity, otherwise your votes only count as one. Keep in mind, though, that once you reveal yourself as mayor, you can no longer be body-guarded or healed.
Medium- You have the ability to speak to dead players and get information from them in a dead player-designated PM. If you were to die during the game, you have the option to 'seance' one LIVING player and tell them the info you know.
Retributionist- You have the ability to resurrect one dead player that has a TOWN role. However, you can only do this once, so be careful with who you bring back.
Escort- I won't lie, you're pretty much a prostitute who 'distracts' the player of your choice; and whatever they were planning on doing that night gets canceled. So basically you prevent a player from doing their ability that night.
Vigilante - Probably the most fun and chaotic of the town roles. You like to take matters in your own hands and try and kill the evildoers yourself. Each night you have the option to shoot, and kill, a player of your choice. However, if the player you shoot has a town role, you will kill yourself out of guilt. So it's best to not shoot anyone until you have a good idea on who seems suspicious or not.
Godfather- You are the head honcho of the mafia -- everything you say goes. You have the ability to chat with all the other mafia members in a designated PM.
Mafioso- You follow and carry out the orders your Godfather gives you (aka you're the one that actually goes out and kills a player).
Consort- The same abilities as Escort, you just happen to be working for the mafia instead.
Janitor- You have the unique ability to 'clean' the mafia's latest victims. Cleaning a player that the mafia has killed will remove that person's role. So when their death gets announced to everyone, their role will not be stated (you only have this ability three times). If both the current Mafioso and Godfather are dead, you become the new Mafioso.
Arsonist- You are a pyromaniac that wants to see the whole town burn. You may douse a target each night in gasoline, and when you think you have doused enough people, you may ignite. You are also immune and cannot be killed at night by anyone but the bodyguard.
Serial Killer- You are a deranged psychopath who is out for blood. You may kill a player of your choice each night. If an Escort or Consort visits you to roleblock you, you kill them instead. You also have night immunity like the arsonist (but can still get killed by the bodyguard if they are guarding your target).
Jester- Your whole goal is to get lynched by the other players. Do what you must to make yourself look suspicious enough to get lynched. If you get lynched, you may choose one living player to 'haunt'. Haunting a player causes them to die from guilt.
Now that I have listed all the playable roles and what they do, I will go a little more in-depth on how I want this to play out. I'm hoping for around 10-15 people to express interest. And when enough people have expressed interest, I will message each person individually (unless they are in the mafia) with their roles. In that PM you will also tell me what you'd like to do each night. Now, if you are interested, please make sure you have the time and willingness to participate -- I want this to run somewhat successfully. I will be making a separate thread for 'In-Game' talk once everyone has received and acknowledged their roles. There you will discuss leads you have, people you suspect, who you want to get lynched, etc. Once you have been killed, you cannot actively participate in the In-Game talk, but feel free to talk in this thread (or in the dead group PM!).
As for the rules....All I ask is that you please do not throw the game by cheating. The only players that can actively talk to each other about their roles is mafia and dead chat. Now, if you wanna talk about how dumb this idea is to a fellow player, go for it! But don't ruin the experience for everyone else, please and thanks.
Oh, and one more thing! I will be using a wheel-decider to decide people's roles. So please do not get offended if you get a role that you think is 'lame'.
Anyway, I think that's it for my first post on this thread! If you have any questions, or would like to express interest, don't hesitate to post!
